Thais in Los Angeles Protest Against PM Paetongtarn’s Visit
NoDisplayName replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Were the protesters all US citizens? Article did not specify. And just how many protesters were there? I can't find any photos or videos of the protest, so must not have been more than a couple disgruntled cat ladies. No, wait! Wife managed to track down a youtube video for me. That's a protest? About a dozen retired-looking folks with A4 paper signs mumbling something about getting off their lawn. Out of 400K Thais in the US? Vegan nothingburger. -
Thai wife, US brokerage
NoDisplayName replied to NoDisplayName's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Apparently not, if I understand correctly. You set up the beneficiaries on each account, setting wife to 100%, giving the brokerage instructions for disposal of assets. We do have our downloaded DIY will, signed by a couple witnesses. Unfortunately local government office refused to register a foreigner will. Do retirement accounts pass through probate? NO, as long as the beneficiaries are properly designated. Keep in mind that if the will stipulates anything about such accounts, the named beneficiaries take precedence over the will and the assets will be distributed to the named beneficiaries on the accounts. https://www.fidelity.com/life-events/estate-planning/asset-strategies/retirement-accounts -

Thais in Los Angeles Protest Against PM Paetongtarn’s Visit

I'm anticipating the online outrage when hundreds of American expats on zimmers and lil' rascals rally in downtown Bangkok, bringing the city to a standstill, to protest a visit by saint Donald. -
I was going through my accounts, checking that I had changed my beneficiary information, called Fidelity and asked what was needed when the thing happens. Death certificate, IRS transfer certificate..... now need to research forms 5173 and 706-NA. Asked about how to get the money transferred, could we set up an account for the Thai wife to put funds into, the rep said of course. Can we do it now? Yes, we can, of course that would involve W8-BEN form and US tax filing. Can begin transferring funds as gifts, and stay under the TRD spousal gift limitation. There will be funds in the account available, as it may take 6-8 months to get the IRS release certificate. Fidelity rep will email forms to print, fill out and sign, scan and email back. Process should take about a week.

Smokers? No, they would be excluded in furtherance of inclusion. -

Thailand Considers Nuclear Energy as Gas Supplies Dwindle

And the magic amulets that ward off nukular meltdowns are smaller and cheaper. Of course when rice field engineer installs an extra 50 unauthorized fuel rods in a secret compartment under the cafeteria.......... -
US Tax Filing Status MFS/MFJ
NoDisplayName replied to NoDisplayName's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I don't see any downside, other than the certified copies to attach to the W-7, which I would need for next year's paper tax return. No state returns required, no itemized deductions. Upside is another $60k in tax-free LTCG. Upside is higher tax-free limit for interest and dividends. Upside is eventual SS payments will have a higher tax threshold. -
US citizen married to a Thai lady. Lady has no income, has no US ITIN. 2023 filed Married Filing Separately. No dependents to qualify for HoH. I'm currently doing my own research on switching to Married Filing Jointly. This would not change my/our total worldwide income, but I should qualify for the married deductions/exemptions. 2024 Standard Deduction increases from $14,600 to $29,200 2024 0% Capital Gains bracket increases from $47,150 to $94,300 Result being I can take up to $120K LTCG without paying tax, as opposed to $60K. Any downside to this filing status, other than requirement of filing for an ITIN? Seems we would have to mail in certified copies of her passport and/or ID card along with Form W-7 to apply. For those having done this, what is acceptable as "certified"? Does this require a visit to the US embassy for notarization? I will need to file form W-7 with supporting documents with a mailed-in tax return, after that can e-file?

What? Use if for propaganda purposes? The Pentagon said they had been tracking the weather barroom from liftoff on Hainan Island, across the South China Sea, into a storm where it was blown off course, then as it was pushed by winds up towards Alaska. No alarm was sounded as it entered US airspace, crossed Alaska, entered Canada, left Canada, entered mainland US airspace, and then crossed half the country. It wasn't until Mr. Blinken needed an excuse to cancel a meeting with the Chinese he officially announced was scheduled for that Friday, a meeting the Chinese never agreed to, that the old spy barroom was trotted out............and blowed up, costing millions of dollars in missiles and aircraft deployment. All because a slimy politician couldn't face the embarrassment of being ignored by the Chinese.

Chinese loan shark gang member arrested at Bangkok airport

Another meaningless regulation, virtue signalling after a disaster. The 'recent incident' is the bus fire that claimed the lives of students when the driver ran off and left them to burn to death. The bus had 6 legal gas cylinders along with another 5 illegally installed cylinders hidden in the passenger compartment. How will this new (unenforced after a month or two) regulation ensure the safety of illegal, uninspected gas cylinders?

Can you get a prescription from one of those strip mall doctors that write the health certificates for drivers license applications? If not, tell them the same item is offered on Lazada by dozens of sellers without prescription. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/2311-medicube-age-r-booster-pro-6-in-1-skin-care-booster-apps-i5108963023.html

Designed by these famous Thai architects? The new Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok resulted from an international competition and established the basis of collaboration between Werner Sobek, Matthias Schuler, and Helmut Jahn.
