What you will do if it will happens to you??
NanLaew replied to Cuadrado's topic in Rent or Buy a Condo
As other members have already offered, write it off, ie. forget about the lost booking or scam and forget about any redress as well. The police won't lift a finger, more so if you can't give a name, contact or address. As other members have offered, airbnb will give you plenty of options for a cheaper stay than a hotel while you find something more suitable. Even the regular hotel booking sites will probably find you somewhere cheaper if you go for 2-star digs. -
Now heavy rain across middle Thailand and into Myanmar
NanLaew replied to steven100's topic in General Topics
Middle Thailand.... Bit windy before midnight last night up here in Udon which usually presages rain but drier than a nun's chuff at daybreak, just cool and overcast. That's burning off now but nary a hint of any foontohk yet. Looks like even the mid-country wetness has mostly passed through. -

I have similar mileage and age on my Ranger and, like the OP, it's been serviced and well maintained. The only thing I would consider replacing on a preventative maintenance regime is the wiper blades, tires and battery.

I agree. And if one actually reads all the fine print, you will very rarely find a company that will direct pay the hospital. Most, when it even happens may reimburse you. And that is quite a long time after you submitted the claim. That won't help your hospital bill and they may still not let your out of the hospital. This only appears to be an issue if one can't tell the difference between an insurance company and a bank or credit card. The former aren't about pre-paying or pre-funding much of anything whereas it's one of the latter's standard lines of business.

You've answered your own questions. It's not a deflection. I worked for three pre-monsoon seasons in remote northwest Myanmar and around this time each year, we would post active fire watches and have rapid response teams to recover our gear from the vicinity of flashpoints. On a quiet day, we would see about half a dozen alerts. Just had a look on FIRMS and it's still the same. https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/map/#t:adv;d:2023-03-12;@94.5,24.0,12z

20 illegal Cambodians abandoned by employers stopped trying to return home

Maybe a large, government-funded infrastructure project just finished? -

The good-hearted and benevolent who have contributed nigh on 20 grand (quid) so far, don't give a flying fig about the realities of living life on the wilder side in Thailand. This despite the pseudo-experienced "been there, done that" brigade here who rant and rave about insurance and other frivolities. Get over yourselves and check your own life insurance (if you have any). You don't know the victim from Adam so instead of trotting out the stereotypical tropes and beating your gums, just drop twenty quid on the guy's gofundme page (if you can afford it). If you do, when you wake up tomorrow morning, I guarantee you'll feel much better and probably (hopefully?) won't feel the need to get all uppity, rude and insulting and post absolute rubbish about some TOTAL STRANGER'S misfortune. This virtue signalling message brought to you by the letters N and L.

This accident didn't happen in Bangkok. Sheesh... Real-life incident in Pattaya about eight years ago. Side-swiped by a FFF* who cut in from the right-turn only lane as the lights turned green. We pulled over to 'exchange pleasantries' and after ascertaining how long I had lived there, he berated me for NOT driving like a Thai. While we waited for our insurance people, the cops stopped a couple of times but the only thing they asked was if we had insurance. When given the affirmative, they drove off. *Fat Farang in a Fortuner
