  1. Hence the flourishing undertaker's business.
  2. And that folks, is the end of the story. Don't knock it until you've tried it.
  3. Plenty work keeping them clean. Now there's a job. Maybe if Switzerland had a refugee problem?
  4. Good advice. How much is the application fee the TM11 ? "WHETHER PERMISSION IS GRANTED OR NOT, APPLICATION FEE IS NON REFUNDABLE UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES"
  5. Where do you appeal at Don Muang or Suvarnabhumi? When they are walking you to a detention room? The room with no wi-fi and no public phone? This is before being escorted by airline and immigration reps straight to your flight departure gate so you don't get to use the free wi-fi in the departure lounge either. Thai Immigration abuse the "lack of funds" rule as it the easiest to enforce REGARDLESS of having proof or otherwise. If they chose not to see it, then it doesn't exist. There's been reports on here where some were shown the door with the lack of funds annotation in their passports despite immigration never even asking them for proof of funds. They can suspect anyone of working but that's hard work to prove whereas they can honestly say they never saw sustaining funds, especially if they never asked to see such in the first place. Well done. Now what's your experience with the courts air-side at Thailand's international airports?
  6. And this is the root cause of these increasingly frequent KYC (know your customer) checks from foreign banks you've held accounts with for ages and declaring where you have a tax ID and/or tax residency. I have just provided my UK offshore bank with a reason why I live in Thailand but don't have a Thai tax ID (yet). I recently dropped by my local revenue office here to inquire about getting a tax ID (TIN) solely to satisfy the above bank's request for proof of tax residency/paid. I was passed from desk to desk until it was finally explained that if I fill in the form and provide my Thai bank account and other financial information, they will determine any tax obligations and after I pay them, my Thai tax ID will be divulged. She also said that they would advise the UK tax authorities but pretty sure that's a mangled interpretation that UK, Thai and other banks have some sort of (reciprocal?) access to a database somewhere at the Thai Revenue department? I'm pretty sure the branch in a provincial Thai backwater isn't about to hot text HMRC. However, the increasing need for ALL banks worldwide to fully comply with AMLO and FATCA rules and regulations is an ever tightening noose IMHO, regardless of your nationality and/or tax domicile. Then I remembered that this is March which is 'tax month' in Thailand so I will ask again when the 'heat' is off. The first three ladies I dealt with at the local tax office were all pleasant and helpful but the last one had a distinctive "What's in your wallet?!" demeanor.
  7. You mean appealed via an orderly formal procedure similar to the one NOT available at their international airports for visitors denied entry based on the arbitrary use of the 'insufficient funds' rule?
  8. If it all gets too precarious, you can always leave the lights on.
  9. They are mostly good people who have been royally f*cked over by their President. There's a large caravan of broke Brits eking out an existence in Thailand due to their being f*cked over by their Prime Minister. Same same but different.
  10. The universal rule seems to be minimum 6-months remaining on any passport validity when applying for a visa. I haven't heard of anyone being bailed up on arrival when applying for a visa-exempt entry on a passport with less than 6 months validity. However, an expired passport is an expired passport.
  11. Possibly. Both my W10 machines (upgrades from W7 several years ago) show "0.0 seconds" so maybe something got left 'unplugged' on the upgrades? On my brand new W11 laptop, it says 3.0 seconds. I though the BIOS resided on a chip on the mobo, not on any SSD. Or is this the new security malarkey that W11 mandates? Already asked/answered.
  12. and after he raised the case, he was promptly demoted and silenced by Prayut... Prayuth's possibly got his own NACC stuff looming with the alleged use of government property to do his electioneering so he won't be reigning in any 'rogue' cops any time soon. And they knew what they were getting into when they all paid money to get accepted as a police cadet. No sympathy. Some become sharks but most are just so much krill.
  13. I know the sort of farang you're talking about with their 'deer in the headlights' stare, carrying all the shopping bags.
  14. I've run with Hashes in eight western countries and apart from my erroneously setting a run (hare) through Texas State Department of Corrections land, nobody ever got upset, arrested or shot. Baghdad H3 prior to the first Gulf War was an absolute hoot. Meanwhile, here in Thailand, we infamously had a run on the outskirts of Chonburi that coincided with a local jail break. That particular monthly Hash was themed and the theme that month was "Guns N' Noses" (Guns N' Roses being popular at that time). So there we are, maybe 50 of us, all toting fake pistols and plastic noses, shouting 'On-on!' while running past armed police roadblocks and checkpoints. I reckon we pushed the envelope on that one. Buy hey, you make your own fun, eh?
  15. If I am not mistaken, the RTP have already transferred 5 senior cops from Patong station to the Provincial one: the old inactive post malarkey. Seems like the local damage control by the more senior Phuket cops is about to get Big Joke's anal probe.
  16. Thanks, my alternative is Royal Mail International tracked and signed which is a helluva lot cheaper and I had no issues with it over the past couple of years. Took about 10 days door-to-door and traceable all the way. The reason I was asking about DHL is due to the time-sensitive bit of me possibly having left the country before it gets here but I reckon I can maybe just squeak this one in.
  17. Good grief man, what's with all this "whatever" and "who cares" gurning? A couple of members that know how the Cambodian ATM's and agents deal only in bucks (that's $ or USD) and you go all yanks and their language bashing? What value quoting fees in Thai baht when it's a currency that's irrelevant to the situation at hand? You are pretty much on the ball with advice, albeit Vietnam-centric but lately, you've been getting a wild hair up your ass and going off topic.. Not just on this thread either. Someone has a different experience checking in at SGN and you get the dismissive 'whatevers'. As @Lemsta69 has already opined, Phnom Penh is not Saigon. Pull your head in.
  18. I just downloaded my provider's app, then paid the bill every month. But yes, OTPs are a problem. When paying/topping-up online, make 12 small/minimum payments as each payment extends SIM/account validity by 1 month.
  19. The mandatory use of OTP's and other forms of 2FA authorization via short code sms and/email is common across the whole, childish world these days. No easy solution if it's Bangkok Bank. I just had a look at what would be needed to change the Thai mobile number on my account and that needs a form to downloaded, filled in and submitted at the local branch. I had to do that a couple of years back when I wanted to update the residential and email addresses. Five minute job at the branch.
  20. Has anyone recently used DHLitNow which is DHL's online UK portal for quick and easy pre-paid courier collection in the UK for delivery worldwide including Thailand? I last used it maybe a couple of years ago and it was fast and efficient and great for time-sensitive documents. However, I logged in this morning to set up a courier delivery from the UK and there's a warning that EVERY recipient in Thailand must have pre-registered as an importer to allow DHL to act as Thai Customs brokers. Thai nationals just need to use their ID but foreigners need to provide passport, work permit and visa/extension information. There's a link that takes you to an uninformative DHL Thailand web page that has an email address for enquiries it doesn't work/doesn't exist. Although DHLitNow can handle goods and packages, I am only ever sending documents. This seems all a bit of a ball ache for documents so wondering if anyone else has used this specific service recently and if they needed to do the pre-registartion hokum. It could be just a generic warning and not needed for documents. No debates on how they are a rip off, etc.. Just any recent experience with this specific product line. Thanks NL
  21. Was going to suggest this. Is Best Supermarket @ Klang and Second still open? I found they had a decent selection as well several years back.
  22. Its a repository of useful information but one should never assume that the advice that worked for one member is a universal and constant thing. One does need to know enough to sort the wheat from the chaff.
  23. Thanks, so with regard to revolut, what precisely do you mean by, Is that the message you get when you try and set up a new account here in Thailand with a Thai ip address? Does using a UK VPN make any difference?
  24. My mate had his 50th birthday party at his place last weekend up here in Udon. He's been in Thailand for maybe half of that. We stopped counting how many people showed up at around 73. Surpringly enough, he's an Aussie.
