It was Democrats who started the mic mute. Yes, because motormouth Trump wouldn't STFU when it was his turn to do so.

The only reason the initiated this microphone mute malarkey is because Trump can't hold his yap.

I had broadly the same initial response from the 'boss' at the Revenue Office in Udon Thani. She said you're not working and earning here, so you don't need one. When I managed to get her to accept that it was my overseas bank that was seeking proof that I pay tax here and therefore not liable for tax in that country as part of THEIR know-your-customer malarkey, she said I would need to file a Thai tax return after all, but she would only give me my TIN after I had been assessed for and paid Thai tax. Muppets the lot of 'em.

School Dormitory Horror: Six Boys Arrested for Rape of Two Girls
NanLaew replied to webfact's topic in Central Thailand News
In my early teens, I witnessed the abuse of a teenage girl that, similar to this sexual assault, would be considered reprehensible. After my prepubescent excitement passed, I considered what I had seen as pretty shocking and made sure to avoid any similar situations, including hanging about with the 'gang' of schoolmates that actively participated in the assault. Yes, the girl was considered precocious, well-developed for her age and 'easy'. I think the popular phraseology would have been "She was gagging for it." The thing is, as reprehensible as such an assault is viewed now, it was just as reprehensible back then. However, when similar assaults from the 60's or 70's come to light, there's this idiotic apologists excuse that that was back then when things were 'different' in the age of free love, or it's immature youth-on-youth 'exploring' and nobody really got hurt did they? Some things should not be judged or viewed through the distorted prism of what was normal or acceptable back then and this is one of them. The only differences between a gang of teenage boys violating a teenage girl and grown men doing it to grown women is the age of the perpetrators, and being caught. Funny how the age of the victim is somehow irrelevant. -
12 month bank statement

The primary rule about immigration (and pretty much any other 'rule' in Thailand), is that they can be applied arbitrarily. The justification is implicit in the official regulations that the IO can 'request any other document' and that is what they frequently do. See my comment above. Everyone's experience is unique, and nobody's experience should be considered empirical. -
Birds, booze and banter remain the Pattaya attraction for Brits

And Jockinese. I lived there for about 6 years. Plenty jermins on the sea-side of the Pattaya-Naklua road, more ethnically and culturally diverse on the Sukhumvit side. -

How long do you spend pushing YOUR cart around at Big C? I pretty much have the short-list in my head (or more often written on a Post-It), and knowing what I want and where it is, I am in and out fast. I also limit Big C excursions to mid-morning, Mon-Fri as where I live, weekends tend to be full of hillbillies and their brood schlepping around, elbows on an empty cart, lapping up the air conditioning (and bumping into people). Also, going in too early gets you in amongst the old farangs whose pension check has just dropped, filling up on Cornflakes and whatever's on the yellow-label, near-expiration date stand, giving you the stink-eye. -

Yes, there are a lot of English squatters living the dream as bar 'managers' on the Soi. -
A Visit to the Tax Office
NanLaew replied to NoDisplayName's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
The 6-month split between some countries may need a bit of careful management if BOTH 'long-stay' countries have the 180-day residency rule. Easier to include at least one other venue, and it doesn't need to be 'long-stay' either. For example, a long weekend in Langkawi, an extended layover in some European transit country like Finland or a week in Vietnam as a tourist may be all that's needed. -

Meat? No wonder you dislike it. You're doing it all wrong. It's the hogs ears and cows reticulum that you should be boiling and dipping

I had a gik that was always wanting me to go with her to her 'beloved' Hot Pot, which I usually declined. One day, after she offered to pay, I reluctantly agreed and let her take me to lunch. I broke off the relationship a few hours later.

You sound like the kind of person who heckles at stand-up. -
Yes, I agree that one never knows. One just need to arrive just after a couple of A380's disgorge their passengers, and things can clog up rapidly. Throw in a Chinese tour group and all bets are off. But, based on your one bad out of two and my six good out of six, I still consider the odds are in favor of a quicker pass-through at immigration, regardless of where you sat on the airplane.
-
When was the last time you "arrived and the wait has been over one hour"? I've been through BKK six times so far this year, and the new layout in the regular immigration halls appears to have improved the overall flow and the gate-to-curb experience. Worst-case, I have got to the baggage claim easily less than 20 minutes after getting off the plane. Better to reserve the Priority arrivals for the senior, disabled, pregnant traveler who really need it with the perks of the 'front-of-the-bus' experience of Business/First travel limited to the 'bus'. When one pays a premium to an airline for a premium travel experience, don't expect it to be extended through immigration and customs.

Pidok Sooksawas: From High-Flyer to Thailand’s First Gentleman
NanLaew replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"First Lady" and "First Gentlemen" applies to the spouse or partner of a President, never a lowly Prime Minister. K. Pidok is just another bloke. -
So do thousands of Americans charged with DUI. A guy I worked with plead down his three DUI's three times. The last one cost him around 8000 bucks at the end of the day. But that's the marvelous thing about justice and the courts in the USA. If you don't want to do the time, just pay a bigger fine but make sure you have enough left over for your lawyer.

For you maybe. For others, there's https://factcheck.afp.com/doc.afp.com.36CD8J8 Can you spot the difference?
