Huw Edwards given suspended sentence over indecent images of children
NanLaew replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Correct, he was reluctantly suspended on full pay and reluctantly finally let go. Now the BBC want him to pay back the salary they paid him. It appears he may be reluctant to do so. -
Huw Edwards given suspended sentence over indecent images of children
NanLaew replied to Social Media's topic in World News
If you are traveling to the UK and you watch live streams on YouTube (or any other platform) using your laptop or mobile phone, you would technically need a TV license. The UK law requires a TV license for watching any live broadcast on any device, whether it's a TV, computer, mobile phone, tablet, or game console. This applies to both residents and visitors in the UK. The law is an ass comes to mind. Totally agree. -
Huw Edwards given suspended sentence over indecent images of children
NanLaew replied to Social Media's topic in World News
In the United Kingdom and the British Islands, any household watching or recording television transmissions at the same time they are being broadcast is required by law to hold a television licence. Those aged 75 or over and receive Pension Credit, blind (severely sight impaired), live in qualifying residential care and are disabled or over 60 and retired who are watching or recording television transmissions at the same time they are being broadcast are exempt from requiring a license. Of course, if you don't have a television then you can't be watching or recording television transmissions at the same time they are being broadcast, so you don't need a license. There's your choices. -

I think it's an abstruse reference to the ubiquitous but mandatory "TV license" that funds the BBC. -

Not for chief magistrate Paul Goldspring, apparently. Also, my understanding that from the moment he was arrested and charged until now, Huw Edwards hasn't spent a single minute in police detention or incarceration but rather in a "mental health facility". Also note that when he was first publicly identified for these crimes, the following occurred, "Minutes before the family statement was published, a separate update was issued by the Met, which has been assessing the allegations in recent days after discussions with BBC executives. It said: "Detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command have now concluded their assessment and have determined there is no information to indicate that a criminal offence has been committed." https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-66180799 The wagons were circled way back last summer and the judge has made sure that the circle remains unbroken. As for this shameful defense that he didn't make them, sell them, share them but deleted them as some sort of mitigation? How about the guy who they arrested on suspicion of planning to shoot Trump? Will a defense of "Sure it's my gun, but I didn't use it" work for him? -
What's this "we" nonsense? Stop making stuff up and believing the stuff that others make up for you. BTW, I just watched JD Vance imploring that the liberal's inciteful invective of labeling someone as fascist needs to stop as it's triggering these assassination attempts. I guess he must have missed the recent debate where a notable conservative was calling someone else a Marxist.

As others here, I've used my Thai D/L to check into hotels from 2 to 4 star for 10 years. There may be hotels that don't accept it but I've yet to find one. When we have stayed at hotels up-country where Mrs NL has made the reservation, several of them haven't asked to see any form of ID from me. YMMV TiT

That's how I got a Thai credit score. Bought a vehicle on finance in my name and honored the commitment. Before the final payment, traded it in for a newer one on finance. Of course the finance company wanted a work permit as part of their approval but the excellent dealership sales lady "worked with me" on this and by everyone agreeing to my making a bigger cash deposit, the WP requirement was waived. Buying a car, especially a smaller, cheaper one, may be a faster way to getting a credit score and a credit card but be prepared for many 'cannot' and bureaucratic inflexibility driven by a lack of knowledge of what can and can't be done.

The pink ID card has your name in Thai script ONLY whereas a Thai ID card AND ticket/boarding pass, has the name in English. Minimum security checks for both name and photo. I am sure that someone will claim that they have managed to board a domestic flight with a pink ID card, and despite being recognized by the authorities as an acceptable photo ID for foreigners, I would stick with the Thai DL.

Group Attacks Pattaya Bar Worker After Luring Her to Meeting
NanLaew replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
First night? Only 20 years-old so it is highly likely a neophyte in her chosen profession? The new pretty girl in the bar gets more attention from customers than one of the more seasoned demimondaines, who sets her up for this slapping session? Ah yes, slappers fighting for my attention. Those were the days... -
I always wondered what that entailed. Up in Udon Thani, there's a reserved parking area that's manned by guys who will move barriers that have pictures of a Central "T1" MasterCard so assume it's some membership privilege? The cars don't appear to have any visible window decals to identify them as qualifying, but they do tend to be newer, high-end marques with the usual smattering of Lao-registered SUV's. If membership involves paying money to Central who I never buy anything from (I use Tops and the Royal Farm shop in the basement and sometimes the bank), I am happy to use the free 45-minute "express" parking at the far end. There's absolutely nothing in Central to entice me to stay longer... although the stunning, Hokkaido Ice Cream Cake girl had me pushing that envelope once.

Today I met the first farang returning home because of exchange rate
NanLaew replied to nofarang's topic in Central Thailand
Under 43? Maybe he fell in love with Thailand in the last eight years or so after being the semi-annual two-week millionaire, but mistakenly decided to retire early? Meanwhile, many pensioners with a bit more foresight who have embraced the importance of having a budget are coping well.- 124 replies

Guys, they almost got away with memory-holing this!

If only the holier-than-thou, bible-thumping conservatives weren't so blow-job averse, they could do so much more, so much better. And have fun too. -

The BRICS tried that and failed. I think the key to that flop was the amount of debt that's held in Benjamins? -
