What is wrong with Thai women (on dating websites) in 2024
NanLaew replied to StayinThailand2much's topic in General Topics
Considering that this is purely an online, internet happenstance, it can't be the halitosis. -
What has happened to the long time girlfriend experience?

How's the halitosis going? -
According to the earlier post by @ballpoint where he had to hunt down the tax office that had red-flagged his passport with immigration, they sort of already do have some degree of synchronisation. Back in the 'civilized' UK, there's already linkage between HMRC (revenue), HMPO (the passport office) and even DVLC (who issue driving licenses). There's absolutely nothing to stop Thailand pulling their collective socks up and getting everyone similarly tracked, be it for taxes, overstay or DWI. Especially now they've signed up to the big boys club at the OECD. PS: Cambodia is over there ====>

That won’t make you non tax resident. If you spend a total of 180 days here in a tax year you’re tax resident. It’s not 180 days consecutively it’s 180 days in total…. Correct. Best option is 4 months on, 4 months off over three countries. Let's see now... Thailand in Nov-Feb, Cuba in Mar-June and UK July-October.

The UK state pension falls below the level requiring tax, ie less than the personal tax free allowance for the UK. So tax free. It does however qualify for Thai taxation by amount. I hope you are correct of course. Since the UK state pension varies widely from person to person, there's no way you can claim they will qualify for Thai tax. Most pensioners are way underfunded and won't get anywhere near their full benefits. I would wager that most pensioners pitching their tent here will barely make the lowest tax tier. The balloon chase will endure.

You are? Seriously? I'm thinking about whether to have a late lunch or skip it altogether.

Agree, although I guess most pax on long=haul have checked-in baggage, the receipt being stuck on the back of the boarding pass. giving half a chance of keeping it at least until baggage reclaim ! Which is where the warning to show the boarding pass should be, rather than too late at the immigration counter. Like the spandex and lycra idiots disembarking at Bali Denpassar DPS the other day, pushing and shoving their way through the visa-on-arrival booths and getting as far as the immigration desks only to be asked for their boarding passes that they'd decided was trash to be "tucked into the seatback pocket." That may go toward explaining why it took some passengers well over an hour to clear immigration. Then there were the really clever ones that found their bags on the wrongly numbered baggage carousel. Note that at Indonesia's tourism jewel international airport, it takes upwards 45 minutes from disembarking the plane to 'first bag' on the carousel. That's OK if immigration is backed up, but they clear the carousels faster than they load them so then it's hunt the baggage stacks, a bit like Lagos. The real champions though are those that didn't need VoA, found the 'hidden' immigration desks, got their bags off the correctly numbered carousel only to encounter the epic fail of not having gone online and got the QR code for pre-clearance of their baggage with Customs. Me? First time arrival in Bali and I was in my hotel within about 90 minutes of touchdown. I feel sorry for those that didn't prepare well (no I don't). BKK, DMK, UTP, CNX, CRX, HKT and KBV are ALL a walk in the park compared with DPS.

Kor Ror 2 for Non-O Marriage Extension

Where's the value of either your friend's experience or yours without the "definitive" information of which immigration office each of you deal with? -

You're being robbed. My wife gets mine for 10 Baht every year. LOL, if his wife gave him back the 190 baht change, maybe he wouldn't be drinking lite beer. -

Here? Where's here? Most Immigration offices have a maximum validity of the Kor Ror 2 they will accept. For example, for Udon Thani Immigration, it's 7 days. As per @Lite Beer, a copy can be obtained from the nearest (any) Amphur on producing your ID. -

Acer... the Toyota of laptops.
-
Just finished upgrading a redundant Acer Aspire E14 that I had previously upgraded from the awful W8 it came installed with many moons ago. It was a student's laptop who has now graduated and thus the laptop was discarded. It needed a new battery (800 baht) and the charger had also gone missing (200 baht). Added 4 Gb of DDR3 RAM (180 baht) and replaced the original HD with a spare 500 Gb SSD (forgot the price). Reinstalled W10. Flies like a bird. The OP is not in Thailand so the price of a replacement depends on that local market but minimum i3 CPU, 8GB RAM, 500 Gb SSD and running W11 is pretty much standard and shouldn't be hugely expensive.

Pull the other one. I have twice paid deposits for new cars ahead of delivery at two different dealerships. I have been refunded when I managed to get the vehicles faster from another dealership. One of the dealerships was when I was living in the US. -
I did the sign-up and purchase on their website, not on the smartphone. No idea about the facial recognition, as I was never asked for this on my android handset. The key is not conflating the need to activate the account with registering (activating) the SIM in the phone. Do step 3 before step 4. 1. Select the package you want. 2. Pay for it and activate the account, during which you get the option to select your US number which will be based on the home/billing address you provide. (have a cup of coffee) 3. Log in to your active account and purchase the up-roam option. Get confirmation (have another cup of coffee) 4. Scan the eSIM's QR code into your smartphone and add the eSIM (it will initially say "temporarily unavailable") (have another coffee) 5. The eSIM will be registered on the Thai networks. (beer time!) 6. Download their app to your smartphone and enjoy. The coffee breaks are so you don't panic or bolt the process since you are overseas and their systems are updating. You may get a SMS from them asking if it was you accessing your account from an unknown location. Just respond with "ALLOW" and it's all good. Also note that at no time was a VPN of any sort required. My internet here is via a DTAC 4G netsim.

Mine and others' rights.
NanLaew replied to Jan1970's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
How would a written agreement help the OP? Seriously? The prospective tenant agrees to the terms as stated in the advert and sends the landlord the refundable security deposit. The prospective tenant's circumstances change for whatever reason and cannot take up the occupancy. Under the agreed terms, the landlord thus retains the security deposit and doesn't need to wring his hands in moral despair on an anonymous internet forum. Now maybe, just maybe, this inclusion of a nominally refundable security deposit will put off some potential tenants. Maybe, just maybe, those are the sort of tenants that should be avoided anyway. -

NanLaew replied to Jan1970's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
Then make sure that any agreement on a deposit is more than simply verbal; include this in the advertising such as "The security deposit is non-refundable but will be deducted from the invoice once the tenant takes up residence". That way, you don't need to worry about anyone's ulterior motives or waste your time asking them to prove something that is frankly nobody elses business. -
Can my daughter own a car at 16 years of age?
NanLaew replied to Cricky's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Sure beats the 'logic' of certain forum members offering up answers to unasked questions along with all sorts of irelevant opinions and experiences that nobody's interested in, including the OP. -

NanLaew replied to Cricky's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
At the risk of getting my ass handed to me (again), I went back and looked at the OP. Nope. Absolutely no mention of interest in doing this legally or otherwise. The OP appears to be interested solely in registration and insurance.
