  1. Just because I enjoyed living there for several years. My best time in Thailand. That was over 10 years ago though. I'm probably just chasing memories of being 10 years younger.
  2. Sounds possible. The main point being, that it's always a problem. Nothing or too crowded, no middle ground. 🤣
  3. Or one of those guys who starts asking you a bunch of personal questions and never talks about himself for some reason. Trying to figure out how you seem to be doing Ok when they failed.
  4. Really sad address. Nobody can overcome old age and I really got a feeling about this during the address. He went out trying though, which was honorable. It felt like a last lone soldier charging towards a large army refusing to surrender and bearing the defeated countries flag. I came away sad about getting older myself after watching it.
  5. That's easy. You're not happy so she goes with you. The pivot is, she does not know if she will be happy in the new location because she has not been there. You know you are not happy here and were happier in another location. You have the advantage on insisting on the relocation. However, if she were unhappy in the new location, advantage is her's to move back.
  6. I'm feeling that way as well, Bob. I live in Pattaya though, so it's a bit worse. Got to doing my visa run for my O-A visa and started thinking that if there was a problem at the border it would not be so bad after all! Just move to Cambodia. Even getting a bit excited about that possible immigration problem 🤣. Not a good sign. Go with your heart. I feel like I need to use all my visa time here though for some reason before I move. In a couple months back to Chiang Mai for the next year. If it does not work out there, like it did in the past, I'm over Thailand. Will need to decide by next June if I want to stay here long term on a regular O or not.
  7. One thing I dislike about a lot of Thai's is they don't seem empathize with animals. I had a maid that was kind of uncaring to my cats and it was kind of odd. It always gave me a red flag what they would be like towards children also and to watch for that lack of empathy in anyone I ever got serious with.
  8. When you are sitting in a place like Pattaya that's easier said then done. There may not be a lot if decent women around. The alternative is just living stag in an area where everyone else is using prostitutes and feeling like an outsider, or moving to another location.
  9. I don't recommend them at all. I was just there and they had no runs going the whole month. They don't do a run unless at least three people sign up for the same day and there were zero people signed up. A waste of the trip over there. Makes me wonder about the positive reviews on here.
  10. I wonder if the kicking one was an accident? If someone is sitting below you just a brush of the foot would be blown out of proportion. It also happened on a beach stairway which does not seem like a likely place for an intentional kicking. Then, you have a Thai doctor who may be over sensitive to the implications of foot or leg contact by someone standing over them.
  11. Update: He is still here in Jomtein. Not sure what his financial situation is.
  12. What happens if you renounce citizenship, become stateless and can't be deported back to your native country? Do you just rot in jail in the country you happen to be in? Or, do you have to establish residence in another country before you renounce?
  13. I'm not interested in why "some people" do that. I'm interested in the Op's personal reasons. Those reasons are not discussed in past threads.
  14. We are headed into a global depression. It won't just be Canada.
  15. Ok, but why? I want to have a discussion here, not just spout off property names to you.
  16. Another option would be to rent a place for a year and just pretend you bought it. You could probably even just pay the rent up front for the whole year and not worry about it. Next year, get another place. You are probably not going to make money buying & selling so I can't see that as a reason to buy instead of rent.
  17. Time to man up, alpha. Get it done and get that taken care of.
  18. It may possible to transfer investments to an international brokerage with the same firm without selling, but not sure about the details.
  19. You give up your social security if you do that, don't you? All that money paid in your whole life gets forfeited??
  20. only when you are deported, not when you are here
  21. I can envision this guy pumping away. He is a man's man, man. Will you be a bottom, man? Buggery.
  22. Welcome to my circus.
  23. Try Hawaii next time, not Mexico!
  24. If you are retired here long term, you're not really just a guest.
