same old same old. was reading an article about the last general who said the 2006 coup was necessary to stop corruption however in the last 10 years it seems to have gotten considerably worse. the one about the expensive fire trucks was incredible. another coup to oust the red under the guise of doing something good for the country. have to just accept that this is the way thailand is.
Yeah, problem is, accepting/resigning oneself to something "that is what it is" means nothing ever changes ...

Of course it won't work. Of course those two 'ifs' would never be the case. I was just leaving the conclusion up to others.
Yeah, but some sweaty people refuse to accept reality tho.

How do you know the other side is installing their people? You Sherlock?
Don't need to be Sherlock, just read the news, look around and talk to people.
It's worth a try, works better tho when the head isn't firmly embedded in the sand and the fingers aren't stuck in ears whilst repeating "la la la la, I can't hear you".

It will only work if:
- the EC is cleaner than every other government agency. If not, then it's just another funnel for corruption.
- the EC is free from the influence and/or meddling of the junta/government.
I like the optimism.

42(ish)%, the new "majority" to allow a "people's mandate".
Does anyone still believe these polls?

What I see is a one sided fight of corruption.
Mostly "red" affiliates being arrested from what I see, whilst the other side are installing their own people.

Again, wow, how <deleted> up is this?
In what world does telling the truth = defamation???
-
Oh, <deleted>! What offense is it to lie to the Police? Oh none, as long as you've got a load of cash and underlings to take the fall.
Regardless of who did it, it's his property, his responsibility, and his name on the deeds. Except here it seems.

Yes those self same innocent Thai youths would never be involved in a 10 to 1 brawl I'm sure, or gang up on anyone themselves.
Can't say I have much sympathy for them tho when turnabout comes around.

Thailand, where standing up for human rights gets you a prison sentence.
"No foreigner should think they have power above Thai sovereignty."
What about Thai power over Thai sovereignty? Don't they even care that the sovereign Thai Law, which forbids the alleged abuses, may have been broken? What this statement means to me: "Foreigners and workers don't have rights, influential Thais can do what they want regardless of the law. *cite countless cases of DWI vehicular manslaughter.
And people wonder why foreign investment and human rights/trafficking ranking are so bad? Wake Up!
It's ignorance again, but to be expected I guess.
Any perceived "attack" against any Thai or Thai business, seems to automatically then be associated (in their tiny little minds) as an attack against the monarchy and Thailand itself, despite the fact that it's they themselves breaking their own laws or agreements that they signed up to. No wonder investments etc have plummeted here, and they won't be going back up any time soon either if they carry on as they are.
I had hoped things would improve here, but they just seem to be sliding backwards into even more extreme nationailistic fervor every day, whilst simultaneously blaming everyone else for everything as they are so perfect and never do wrong or break their own < deleted > laws.

The "current crop" have always been at the very top. Any "crop", before them were just their subordinates.
No, that's not correct, there's been a power shift at the (very) top which you'll see the results of very soon, and there's been a power shift away from the Police and to the Military further down and on the street (not entirely, but it's going that way).

the result would have been the same under so called previous democratic government when the same defamation laws were frequently used. so you can't blame this on the military
Isn't that what I said? That nothing has changed except the faces taking the money?
-
Anyone that's deluded enough to think that this current crop of thieves at the top are any different to anyone before needs to think again.
It's all about protecting their revenue streams, nothing more.
Corruption continues to live on. Disgusting. And not even subtle about it.
-
It's only dragged on this long cos the original cheque bounced. Plus too many top people are up to their neck's in this stinking mess.
I'll be very surprised now if the boss ever faces anything, tho a few minor underlings might be sacrificed in the name of face.

So for all the blowing of trumpets and promises of crackdowns on corruption, the Junta still have not (and never will be able to) reined in the Police.

Don't understand it - ban it!!!!
Seems the modus operadi of the Thai cops.
No, that's not correct.
It's "if we can't 'tax' it, let's ban it".

The original off-topic post you removed stated in black and white ALL the specific treaties/conventions that Thailand is continually violating and ignoring so I would think that is very relevant to any discussion on "freedoms" here of any and all types.
Why are these international bodies allowing this to continue with no consequences?
Why are they allowing Thailand to remain a member of the UN despite ignoring the treaties they have signed up to?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that they were stolen for personal profit.

So, let me get this straight ... in order to increase investment and promote Thailand as a place to do business, they are proposing to change the law to allow "one" foreigner to register a business with no partners. But then later they've added that a "foreigner" is excluded from this relaxation of the rules.
So what's the point? Thai's can already start a business on their own without partners. So who's the law targeted at?
It's targeted at Thai people who now do not have to have a set quota of shareholders, simple as that.
I thought they could already do this in that case, I know quite a few Thai's who are the sole owners of their businesses. So is it then for a specific type of business? Limited company? Something else?

Bit defeatist and depressing ... (corruption) "can not be changed"?
Of course it can be changed, but only once the "people" choose to change it. Until then, the corruption remains, but the players change.
