  1. Thanks to all the posters who have offered constructive advice. The family business employs 10 thai nationals already and they are going to apply to the labor department to employ my friend on a part time basis as a designer "situated in a different location" for a supposed salary of 20,000 to 30,000 per month. I did see another poster say that his salary would have to be around 60,000 bht per month but I am unaware of the reason why. If the salary was as high as this, what would be the amount of tax to be paid compared to the lower salary?

    Once again, thank you

    JAF

The 60k baht number was an error and confusion between obtaining a work permit and a extension based upon working. There is no minimum salary to get a work permit. There is a minimum salary to get an extension based upon working but the highest salary dependent upon nationality is 50k baht.

Since is on an extension or visa based upon marriage he does not have a minimum salary requirement.

    Yes, I stand corrected.

Depends on nationality, but for most it's a minimum of 50k/month to qualify for a Work Permit.

  3. It seems that the government, the police, and army are intimidated and fears the powers of that one man

can unleash, and with the ' in his life time ' bit, can it be said the same for all other criminals that resisting

arrests? if not, why the double standards than?.....

Don't think it's the fact that they are "intimidated", but rather that the money-making temple is "protected" by people higher up the food chain than those in charge that the public know about.

  4. Just goes to confirm how < deleted > up "religion" is here, and how gullible so many Thai's are.

Tho the same could just as easily be said about people in the "west" too when it comes to "religion" and "money/donations".

This is one massive fraud and money-laundering operation, being protected by people up on high. Simple as that. The "religious" side of things is merely the cover. Same as we've seen in the "west" countless times.

  5. Are the folk promoting this new liberalizing of investment law include in the information package all the "rights" the government has in the computer crimes act including access to passwords and emails? I wonder if that information will improve international investment?

Most Thai's don't even know about that new "law", and savvy investors will most likely be going to Vietnam now.

  6. Maybe, just maybe, "face" might be put aside for once, the PM steps in and does the right thing, releases the suspects and arrests all those complicit in this frameup, including the Police who have been paid off, and those influential figures that walked all over the crime scene, fled the island and faked the video showing them at their student dorm.

I'm dreaming, I know ... but if "Thailand" ever wants to be taken seriously, this is the time.

  7. The Koh Tau case was ' concrete ' according to the police but was sent back to them several times by the prosecutor.

The police apparently dragged their feet over the Red Bull heir case and now more apparent feet dragging with many more examples I'm sure.

Now why does this happen, is it because the BIB are simply lazy and or incompetent or could it be because of ? whistling.gif

As with so many things here, it's all about the money ...

  8. Only you (OP) know the girl in any real sense, and not ALL Thai girls are out to rip people off.

If she's there trying to improve her position in life, and all has gone well with you both so far, and "if" you can afford to lose the cash if anything does go awry, I don't see the problem in helping her out.

There has to be some real level of trust in a relationship, and if at this point in the relationship you still don't feel you can trust her, I don't see that changing anytime soon unless you take a chance and give her a chance to prove the naysayers wrong.

Simple rule in life ... never "loan" more than you can afford to lose.

  9. In a newspaper we not allowed to talk about, has Gen Prawit told there was Good news, "We won't get the red card... They have delayed this because we have always cooperated." And gets 6 months more on the yellow card.

And then The EU in Thailand declined to comment, citing the confidential nature of meeting.

Do they really know was told and discussed on the meeting wink.png

Another example of how the Thai govt happily issues statements etc on behalf of others and seem to get away with it.

They really need to be called out publicly more often, why play nice diplomatic games when they don't ?

Yes claims about F1 and the Tour de France coming here were quickly denied by the relevant organisations but making press releases on behalf of other governments is in a different league.

Well, they don't want to jeopardize their extra incomes by complaining, do they?

Bernie will always quite happily tell people to < deleted > off, he doesn't need the money, plus he can usually bend people to do what he wants them to do anyway.

  10. It states he could be jailed for two years on criminal defamation charges.

The company whose owner also heads the Thai pineapple industry association and is elder brother of a former cabinet minister for labour....( interesting given the claims) says "the information is false."

Mr Hall claims labour abuses occurred .

What's interesting is the EU diplomats watching the proceedings.

After the loss of face recently by a delegation talking with YS instead of NCPO over trade offers for democracy improvements ....the PM might see this case as a way of giving a black eye back to those that dare smear Thailand.

Whilst I admire Mr Halls courage and work it is gullible to think consequences won't flow in such a corrupt situation.

The government like to silence people westerners included who might raise further questions on not just companies but them.

We are reminded in the article he wrote on the Burmese migrant workers who same will claim were stitched up, for the murders of two British back packers also.

So this man is no light weight.

He has the article informs worked with Aung San Suu Kyi so he is very capable and appears clean cut and diligent and I assume honest .

Given the tier 3 level and highlighted slavery on fishing vessels .

It's not a huge extension of plausibility to imagine the labour abuses of immigrant workers appears elsewhere.

So we have an interesting case where connected Thais seek damages and possibly a ruling that also includes jail time ,as well as future expulsion from the kingdom ( if he survives the jail term)

And on the other human rights groups and EU who can wave a red card in the Thai governments face at any time.

This case perhaps the final straw.

A poised seafood industry under a cloud .

Other human rights abuses in the spotlight.

How the Thais handle this will be interesting.

They already have his passport so fleeing is not an option .

Though I would if I were him ( as well as many members here who can guess the script)

One likely outcome is they say "this man damaged and defamed the good name of this Thai company and affected its trade adversely."

And the court imposes a jail term and demands many millions of baht before he is released ?

The media from the Government side run with the story of big mouthed Farang taught lesson .

And Thais needing to vent their personal life's frustration applaud.

The bottom line is with this case and the Facebook mother and Gang of 8 and so many more including former PM the judicial system is in the spotlight.

The world is noticing what's going on.

Travel agents are saying how nice Vietnam is when general asian enquiries are made.

Thailand is very much in the news too much and for the wrong reasons.

It's been two years and the military have kept a lid on things thus far.

    But pressures are building.

It's one thing to jail Thais unfairly in this current situation that the elite class insists is necessary procedures .

But the protocols will vanish if westerners start getting locked up for essentially telling what is most likely the truth.

The military are going to have to let this guy walk if their reasoning is sound.

The fact it made court is disgraceful and highlights the ""who you know"" mentality here.

Allegations unproved are also a serious thing.

But I very much doubt he would make this stuff up.

Lets hope he can prove it in court.

I have a sneaking suspicion his witnesses have long gone and no one will testify against the company in courts stacked with folks drooling for farang blood.

This case might just cause much more trouble than a drop in sales.

Lets see what the Thais do.

My money is on guilty and all hell breaking loose.

    Spot on.

  11. So, "Dr" Wanchai has a "questionable" PhD, Dr Pichai brought this to the attention of the University and they did nothing (I assume) except it cost "Dr" Wanchai the new position within the University, and Dr Natthapol got caught in the middle of it all. Is that right? Why wasn't Dr Wanchai sacked on the spot for fraud?

    Because

"According to the commissioner, Phranakhon Rajabhat University is going to open a new learning course for master degree students and was designating Dr Wanchai to be head of the learning course.

However Dr Pichai argued his qualification, forcing the university to remove Dr Wanchai from the job."

I will paraphrase that in one word. : "Money."

    ... and "face" ...

    Money Number 1 thumbsup.gif

I'd have to disagree slightly and say "not always" ... "face" seems often to be the primary factor in most cases of anger/rage/abuse/beatings/murder here from what I've seen. And even more so in recent years.

  13. So the shield was to prevent missile attacks from the middle east? Right. Well the only nuclear armed power there is Israel. Or are we supposed to believe Iran who doesn't have missiles wants to declare a suicidal war on NATO for some unknown reason?

The missile shield as I've commented before is about giving the US first strike nuclear capability. Now if Russia had a missile shield wouldn't NATO be panicking for exactly the same reason, namely being able to nuke someone without fear of retaliation?

That aside both Chinese and Russians have developed new missiles that will go straight through it any way, so another colossal waste of money. Still good way to help instill fear into the ignorant and ramp up the war machine profits.

United States, Russia, United Kingdom, France, China, India, Pakistan, Israel, North Korea (and allegedly) Saudi Arabia have them too.

That doesn't of course count the numerous countries where the US has "placed" their own nuclear missiles.

  14. Understood. But I rarely see Western nations making these kinds of threats:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/russia/2566005/Russia-threatens-nuclear-attack-on-Poland-over-US-missile-shield-deal.html

Only 24 hours after the weapons agreement was signed Russia's deputy chief of staff warned Poland "is exposing itself to a strike 100 per cent".

General Anatoly Nogovitsyn said that any new US assets in Europe could come under Russian nuclear attack with his forces targeting "the allies of countries having nuclear weapons".

He told Russia's Interfax news agency: "By hosting these, Poland is making itself a target. This is 100 per cent certain. It becomes a target for attack. Such targets are destroyed as a first priority."

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/poland/6480227/Russia-simulates-nuclear-attack-on-Poland.html

That's simply down to selective/biased news reporting by western media outlets.

If you think that NATO/Europe/USA are NOT doing exactly the same things, you're sadly mistaken.

  15. I do believe the original impetus for this was to deal with Iran's nuclear ambitions. And their threats to use them against Israel. Not Europe. So probably yes, this is going overboard. But don't see the NATO countries backing off their deployment. Which they are entirely within their rights to do.

As far as comparing it to Cuba, that's misplaced. This is a missile shield. Not a nuclear missile. Apples and oranges.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuban_Missile_Crisis

In response to the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion of 1961, and the presence of American Jupiter ballistic missiles in Italy and Turkey, Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev decided to agree to Cuba's request to place nuclear missiles in Cuba to deter future harassment of Cuba. An agreement was reached during a secret meeting between Khrushchev and Fidel Castro in July and construction on a number of missile launch facilities started later that summer.

So, the USSR placed nuclear missiles in Cuba because the USA had first placed them in Turkey and Italy (and other locations throughout Europe). Got it.

It's tit for tat as always, but neither the USA or Russia/USSR are innocents in any of this, both have pushed things to the limits (and beyond) and helped their "allies" to do the same.

And let's not forget, it's a missile system ... what's at the tip can be changed easily.

  16. Yingluck gave farmers almost 50% more for rice than market prices.

only reason for this was VOTE BUYING.

Except those at the bottom of the food chain, the poorer rice farmers themselves, didn't get to see much (if any) of that increase.

Rental costs went up, fertilizer costs went up, transportation, millers, storage, all those costs went up, pretty much wiping out any benefit to the actual smaller rice farmers. Which was the whole point. Some people got (and continue to get) very very very rich, but it wasn't the rice farmers.
