  1. You forgot to mention that you can sit outside with a Russian family partaking in a picnic comprising of cheese and ham toasties and a half bottle of cheap vodka.
  2. School summer holidays going on for ever Why Don't You/Banana Splits/Arabian Knights on TV every morning of the school summer holidays Scrumping White dog poo (why was that?) Proper chips cooked in a chip pan Sunday Roast followed by cold meat and bubble 'n' squeak on a Monday night Bath on a Sunday night to get rid of the tide mark around your neck Snapittes (looked like they were in a rizla paper, made a bang when you threw them on the floor) Ice cream floats Sweet cigarettes Toffo's and Texan bar Holidays at the beach in a caravan or chalet Pink bubblegum (you could collect the coupons and order a pair of x-ray specs) Unigate Dairy (watch out, watch out there's a Humphrey about)
  3. I find the EVA premium economy seats quite a step up from their economy offering. I fly the UK-BKK-UK direct route 3 or 4 times per year always using EVA. I used to fly premium economy both ways but since Covid the round trip price has increased by around £400-£500. Now I tend to fly economy on the UK-BKK leg as the flight departs 9.30pm. Due to EVA reward status I am guaranteed a front row window seat with the extra legroom which makes it bearable. I normally have a good few scoops in the lounge beforehand, pop a pill at take-off and thankfully sleep for the majority of the journey. As the return from BKK departs lunchtime Thai time and arrives evening UK time I try not to sleep. I always book premium economy for this leg. The seats are noticeably larger and recline further than their economy offering. There is also a fairly substantial fixed arm rest/drinks holder between seats which eliminates the 'elbow wars'. Occasionally, I will use points to upgrade to Royal Laurel class on this leg which is an entirely different offering altogether. I would not part with my own cash though for Royal Laurel unless I was only flying maybe once per year.
  4. Agree. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
  5. Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking was a staple for me to get stoned to during the 80's along with Stand Up (Fat Man, Bouree, Look into the sun etc) by Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull. Brings back very happy memories. Thanks for reminding me!
  6. I have never requested a discount on drinks prices. However, there are three bars that I visit fairly regularly in Lamai, Samui (2 Thai owned, 1 Foreign owned) and have done so for many years. Two of them give me 20 baht below the list price on every beer. The other charges me happy hour prices regardless of the time of day which is a similar discount to the first two. Not asked for, they just view me as a loyal customer. Doesn't sound like a lot but is appreciated and adds up to a fair amount over time. I give it all back though by buying the bartender a drink or two on most visits (which I would do anyway without the discount).
  7. And possibly the best 'covers' album ever........
  8. I never understood how this Peruvian band never made it big
  9. Plenty of Apps to track a flights arrival time, both expected and actual. Fairly safe to assume an hour from touchdown, maybe a bit less.
  10. I applied to RTE London on Monday for a SETV. Basically had the same experience. An error message appeared once I had made the payment. Looked later at my credit card account and a pending amount to Kasikorn was showing. After a couple of hours I received the e-receipt from (thaievisa(at)fa.go.th) showing payment had been received. Then went back on the e-visa site and application was shown as pending, payment received and at document checking stage. Received the e-visa yesterday evening so about a 36 hour turnaround which I was delighted with. Think you should be ok. Keep an eye out for the payment receipt then check status again on the e-visa site. Best of luck
  11. That is exactly how I've always imagined Liverpool Lou looks like.
  12. His right hand most likely and even that doesn't like him.
  13. Probably from behind.......
  14. Sheryl - do you have any personal recommendations for sebaceous cyst removal in the Chiang Mai area? I am looking to have one removed from my lower back. UK NHS won't remove as standard as viewed as 'cosmetic'. It is now becoming uncomfortable when sitting or lying down. Any suggestions appreciated. I have already been in touch with Sriphat Medical centre. They will not give any idea on cost until surgeon/physician seen. I am currently in the UK but looking to get something teed up for my return to Thailand next month. Thank you.
  15. Blimey! Looks like a dead-heat in a Zeppelin race.
  16. To Cadbury's, for chocolate.
  17. Totally agree but I fear that the old, miserable, senile Aussie may be along soon to chastise you both for using such obvious clichés.
  18. They did affect me, that's why I posted. What bit of that do you not quite grasp? I am about to solve my issue by using the ignore button for three members including yourself. No need to reply although I know just how much you need to get the last word in.
  19. Why would I be concerned about others problems in this regard? That is why I said I have the issue, not others.
  20. Love it! Absolutely hilarious!
  21. A good friend of mine works 3 weeks on (offshore UK), 3 weeks off. He travels to Thailand from UK every 3 weeks for around 17 days on a METV. Applies to UK Embassy within days of current METV expiring. Has been doing this for last three years and never an issue when applying (in fact, he said that the process has now got significantly easier with less documentation needing to be submitted).
  22. I have just had the immense pleasure of realising that by having Dolf on ignore, I have avoided 54 (yes, 54) posts from him on a topic that he didn't even start. The small pleasures in life are sometimes the most enjoyable.
  23. Or carry it! I was in Luang Prabang last year. Had to drag around a suitcase full of cash just to pay for a couple of afternoon beer Laos.
  24. I was under the impression you had serious money Bob. That is chump change...
  25. Here we go again............
