Otto is doing just fine and has been for years. While I agree that there are those “pigging out”, there are others, such as myself the go to buffets for the selection rather than the quantity of how much we can eat at one go.

Due soon. DOJ report on Biden classified documents; no criminal charges
Wrwest replied to Social Media's topic in World News
For the same reason they will not recommend criminal charges against Pence?! -
I will be interested in learning more from the PBS Newshour/Marris Poll coming out today in the USA. The Appeals Court has firmly rejected Donald Trump’s claim of immunity in the charges brought against him by a citizen based Federal Grand Jury. The Poll reflects the current political divide. Better than 65% of Independent and Democrat Americans asked, say that Donald Trump should not have immunity from prosecution. Of Republicans asked, 68% say Donald Trump should be immune from prosecution. It is on such a basis that some, including myself, fear that there is a real possibility currently that far too many Americans are willing to move toward authoritarian rule … that any President should be immune from the law in any action while President?!

International driving license for Thai local licence
Wrwest replied to Lamphen's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Rented the car and drove in Czech Republic, then Germany, Austria with no issues. Then again, no accidents, driving tickets, etc. Same ha been true with use on my Kentucky Driver's License previous to getting my Thai license. -
Hopefully, including the medical insurance requirement ending the debate on tourists ducking paying bills and need for medical "go fund me" needs. But, as already noted, how to dive up the premiums versus the country services rendered. Hmmm, could look, again at how this works under the Schegen Visa.

Certainly we are allowed to "think" what we want. Thai reality comes down to who has the power and motivation to utilize this law and for what purpose. As we do not know the behind the scenes players all we can do is speculate. My speculation is that to bring charges for words spoken in 2015 is a stretch, as is, saying he wanted to be a 1st President. Unless directly saying that that would absolutely mean ending the monarchy, he could have been proposing a Constitutional Monarchy and not a breach of lese majesty as understood outside of Thai politics. But, as a retired history academic, I am just speculating.

Valid thinking but in her name, definitely you should hold a usufruct giving you the right to live there until the end of your days.

Yes. Hot dishes ... fish, chicken, pork, sausages. Cold cuts, salads. Desserts including cakes, ice cream. I especially like the Deviled Eggs" ...

I cannot dismiss the fear that I might lose my country. Very concerned as I take seriously my DNA going back to the 1600s, before the founding and being a student of American and European History. What is taking place is based on sheer ignorance. I do understand and share the frustration/anger within the working middle class but ... reacting on the basis of emotion threatens my country's very existence.

Changing your passport number on a Thai driving licence
Wrwest replied to Guderian's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Your Yank Cousin here. Been here 13 years so, new US Passport and new number. Did not address the change of Passport number (2021) until I just went for my new 5 year Driver Licenses (MB and Car). The only thing that came up was the renewal officer sent me to bring her copies of the page in my old Passport noting the change to a new Passport number (might have been noted on a 90 Day Report). Anyway, never experienced being asked for Passport on any Chiang Mai road Police Checks. They just looked at the valid License and sent me on my way. -
King Charles III diagnosed with cancer, Buckingham Palace says

Yes, I know this and cold hard cash will get me a cups coffee but I wish my 13th Cousin well. Both as a person and one sharing some DNA from a distant forbear. -
Scottish woman’s cliff plunge in Thailand sparks insurance debacle

Someone should face “loss of face” for this headline. The English language used here says the plunge resulted in her death. -
Angry Russian Tourist Forcefully Shaves Part of Pattaya Barber’s Hair

Open for more Russians coming without a Visa ... what could go wrong? ... Wait, what?! -
I have not faced this as yet. My experience was having the attorney draw up my Will and a Prenup Agreement. I was told the Prenup needed to be registered at the time the marriage was registered at the Amphor Office. At the Amphor Office the official refused to attach the Prenup stating that this was against Thai Marriage Law. I called the agency where the Attorney worked and they sent a rep to state it was a legal document. Refused ... as most will know witnesses were neighbors to be present at the marriage recording. Out of consideration for them, I made my statement about a Licensed Thai Attorney drew up the agreement but I did not decline from registering our marriage. I do not think it was attempt at payment for facilitating, rather I think it was a matter of ignorance not knowing the law.

Thai Airways sues over passenger’s flight diversion criticism

Taking legal action in Thailand as this type of case would not be entertained in any Australian court … or am I wrong in this assumption? -
Foreigner Begging for Money in Bangkok Sparks Investigation

Perhaps part of the general frustration/anger being evidenced in the harsh responders home countries. Sorry, just looking for a potential reason for the observation you make and I agree with. -
Court rules Move Forward attempted to topple constitutional monarchy
Wrwest replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Recognizing that this in the hands of Thai citizens, not me as a guest, I am saddened to see such a ruling. Calling for amending the law was not anywhere near calling for an end of the Monarchy. Amending the law would actually enhance the status of the Kingdom of Thailand by being more consistent with the legal outlook of at least the overwhelming number of democracies. Yes, I both recognize the political background and attitude involved but ... not being in any way protected by "academic freedom" due to being retired and not under my own countries regulations ... I do not comment further. -
Having just updated my Will and entered into a house purchase on contract, I asked the Thai Attorney what would happen in the case of my Thai Wife's death. We were told, without a Will, myself as husband, her Daughters (2), Brother and Parents would inherit. I could continue to live in the house as long as there was no agreement between the others to sell the interest in the house. I plan to have a Will made, stating that the house interest would go solely to her youngest Daughter (my Stepdaughter) who is a student 18 years old and resides with us. To protect my interest I might pay the remaining house debt and have my Stepdaughter agree to a usufruct allowing my continued living in the house.

What I also find interesting is that I had not known of my 4 significant others in the years before we met (duh, naturally enough) but then never saw them again anytime after we broke up. If we were such at a distance, never in the same social circles, never visiting the same places when we were together ... strange. Not exactly ships passing in the night? Shortest of those relationships lasted 4 years, longest 27 years.

Earlier in January renewed both car and motorbike licenses in CM for another 5 years. A little over an hour (movie runs 45 minutes).
