  1. A visa is always at the descretion of the embassy/consulate.

Not surpised about Singapore, and you might have more luck in vientianne, where you even might get a double entry tourist visa.

If you have a friend in Thailand, you can get a multiple non-O at Perth, Australia with a copy of your friends ID-card and a simple note asking for a visa for you.

When you publicize these types of illegal get arounds it makes it harder for the rest of us later on. Why doesn't OP simply follow the rules of Thailand instead of trying to scam? :)

Not a scam just a regular way to get a 1 year visa. PERTH & HULL England are great places to get these easy visas if the applicant is under 40 and not married (not working too).

He said he was a US citizen. Hull will give out non-imm O visa's so readily to Non-Australian?? That like a Aussie going to LA consulate n USA and asking for a visa. Does not sound right to me.

There have been reports here in this forum of non Brits getting 1 year visas from Hull, yes. someone with time on their hands could do a Hull 1 year Non O search and come up with such posts. I've seen them on more than 1 occasion

  2. I will only be wearing that if they put it on me after i am dead.. No Chance!

Since i sold my business, i have just been developing software, so i am not earning anything. So i am not working here.. not earning here..

I realized the 'Tourist Visa' has outstayed its welcome, but really, only Singapore seems to have issues with it. Phuket Immigration has seen my passport 50 times, and never had an issue with the growing # of Tourist Visas.

Its not that i want the tourist visa, i just dont think Thailand provides better options at this point.

After a bit more of research it appears that the ED Visa would work well for me.

    Any thoughts?

    Randy

just take the cash you'd spend on the ed thing and take a trip to PERTH or HULL as those consulates dont seem to have a problem giving out 1 year visas for visiting friends. Or you can do as they said b4, just go to Vientiane and get the double entry tourist visa as they dont have a problem handing those out. I lived from 1999-2010 on Laos tourist visas and never had a problem ever. My passport had 96 pages of stamps and visas till I got my new one in '09. NEVER had a problem so dont listen to the naysayers. based on my experience, you will be more than fine. The only thing I cant comment on is those 1 year visas as I lived only on tourist visas and stamps for 11 years. But I have read in this forum over and over that one year visas from PERTH and HULL are a cake walk, I just never took the trip. I then did the unthinkable and married a Thai so my visa problems are over. However I will never forget the hard times and all the BS holier than though comments from forum members just because they secured a visa. I will always sympathize with those under 50 and unmarried and not working; and I will always be happy to give them the best advice I know. I always despise the holier than though comments that reek out of this forum for persons who dont fit a visa category. I wish they would clam up and let helpful information flow rather than clog up bandwidth with useless comments. carry on

  4. Sorry, with the "lawyer act" you stepped on someones foot - it's not much liked over here to bully someone who is used to being asked nicely, wai'ed and respected, without question!

You can sue your MP back home... but here treat nicely PLEASE!

Shame more and more people who wish to live here think that the people and their customs here have to follow them,

because they have the dosh... or something like this.... get real folks - I live here for 20 years NO problem, ever!

Even on the Immigration, everyone who knows me greets me friendly, every time... anytime, since ever!

They don't "have to" - farang has!

    Very simple equation!

Amen, and you are a guy right on the scene down there. Thank you for your post on what you experience

  5. Indeed, this is a troubling post, in particular because OP's extensions had been approved using essentially the same documentation in previous years.

So, the suggestion that this is the policy of a newly-arrived chief of the Samui IO would be consistent with the different treatment OP experienced.

However, the idea that the new IO chief won't approve interest-bearing accounts would mean that almost every retiree on Samui using the 800K method would not be approved for their next extension application. Or that bribes are required for retirement extension -- which I've never seen reported on this Forum for any IO.

I think it is important for the Forum to get some sort of confirmation of what is going on in Samui since OP's experience is really out of line from what others have been reporting at other IOs.

    Bingo

there's just so much of this story that just doesn't add up. Lawyers, bribes, savior agents etc. I'm not buying it that's for sure. I don't know anyone being forced to pay bribes alone or thru "lawyers" for extensions anywhere in this country

  6. The OP's problem has nothing to do with his original OA visa - which has been pointed out, expired several years ago. His problem is to do with the inexplicable thinking of the IO in Samui when processing his extension.

Thanks, JS, correct. I never raised my voice, followed all the rules, had much more money than they required, and they were as mean to me as a policeman would be if I had killed his partner. I pleaded with them, "What do you suggest or what can I do?" They said get out of the office and go home! I am really surprised that there is nobody to contact in Bangkok to report this. My lawyer asked for his name, but he refused to give it. When I asked him why they had changed the rules about the 800KB not having interest, he just said it was his rule. My lawyer said he wouldn't have given me an extension no matter how much I had in the account. I emailed bangkok IMM last year, no reply. I called them today and they just said I have to work with the rules in KS since I live here.

You always seem to be talking about money money money. Somewhere you rubbed this guy wrong and he's showing that your money can't buy you the extension. I bet if I walked in there, I'd get the extension because I am a super polite guy

  7. A fund book is a cash account that earns .75% interest and all money can be withdrawn the next day -- has nothing to do with stocks or bonds.

wow 250 baht per month on that 400K. Hey look, the Samui guy was just giving you the rules. You hardly need a lawyer to come in there and tell those immi guys the rules. no doubt they got pissed off. I dont blame em

  8. Single entry tourist visa would give 60 days permission to stay, and can then extend at Thai immigration for further 30 days (fee 1,900 baht). We are talking about a double entry tourist visa which, after the above, would require a border run around day 88 (just before visa expires) to activate second 60 day entry and then extend again at Thai immigration for another 30 days. Would give nearly 6 months stay.

Thankyou. Best explanation I've read, admit I find the visas an ongoing confusion, intend to travel to PP late June for next one.

Re ozzydom "Never have I found a less obliging group of people" well that is a challenge - top of my current list is the embassy in Singapore, maybe they were having a bad day but felt our 'reception' was appalling.

report back if you can get that elusive duble entry. thx

  9. My wife is a no shirt. She is from a dirt poor family but a smart family and they borrowed large to get her an education. She now knows one thing only; that red shirts are pawns doing what they are told for their 500 per week or whatever it is. My wife is not from Issan

  10. This open a bank account thing is a catch-22 as it gets harder and harder to open accounts at least from my ecperience. I never did try Kasikorn however. I opened my account back in 2004 after being told by SCB that I needed working papers! After I was told to go to Bangkok bank by a fellow farang. So I did and bingo no prob back in 2004. Now I was in same branch at same desk and witnessed a farang being told that opening an account now is a no go. this was in the last 6 months. good luck and please report back about Kasikorn

  11. Hi, I've been living in Thailand for 8 solid years on a combination of the following visas and visa exempt entries. all of this shows in my 10 year USA passport (never had a warning stamp or visa denial):

    1. 1st year was illegal visa exempt entries purchased from the Wall pub for 2000 per 30 day entries. I did this my 1st year here 2002-2003 till the crackdown on illegal stamp people

    2. I then started triple entry Penang visas at that point. I did those for 3 years till the 2007 crackdown in Penang

    3. then I did the single entry Penang visa 2 times until getting wind of warning stamps that sept

    4. I then did Laos (what a nightmare experience). I did that twice, loving Laos the country but hating the embassy lines and land border headaches

    5. 2008 was a dream when Penang came back into service and I could do singles again and scrap the Laos headache

    6. then 2010 I did something I never dreamed I would do. I met a wonderful uni honors grad and married her. So now I want to for the 1st time get a one year multiple. I really hope and pray to do this is Penang because of sheer convenience. I dread the thought of KL, Singapore or Laos do it yourself situations. Can I get this done in Penang without showing money? or anywhere in region without showing cash?
