  1. We speak ENGLISH and ENGLISH is the language of the world, like it or not. Should we 'brits' start learning Swahili just for the hell of it? Your argument breaks down when conversing with fellow native English speakers because we already speak the most important language on the planet fluently. Every other language is secondary to ENGLISH. Learn it or lose out.
  2. everyone should stop making excuses for thailands pathetic english proficiency levels. be it education system, cultural or whatever, they are for whatever reason well behind the rest of the world when it comes to speaking english and it is their fault. nobody else's.
  3. those metal monkey rods are barbaric. another one of big jokes legacies?
  4. will never change. thais are far too lazy to even attempt learning another language other than their own.
  5. Jaysus, i wish i’d never asked now.
  6. This, my friend, is brilliant. Well done ????
  7. But cash as a commodity has prevailed for tens of thousands of years. Now all of a sudden because of a few apps and the internet we should cut cash out all together? it simply will not work, not in my lifetime anyway. People will always use cash as a form of payment somewhere, even it means breaking the law. The only valid reason I can see for removing cash from society is government control. Try is they might I still believe they will fail to become cashless here or anywhere else for that matter. someone mentioned china before as a case study for a cashless society, but having never been there I cannot comment on just how cashless they really are. I have a feeling that cash is still very much king even there, especially amongst the rural poor, of which China has a lot.
  8. Well I can only speak for myself of course but I am nowhere near the ripe old age of 70 and I voted against.
  9. The poll currently stands at : 25% For going Cashless and 75% Against with 110 votes cast. Thanks to everyone who has voted. It certainly is revealing that a vast majority of people do not support going cashless so it does beg the question: to whom is going cashless really benefiting? ????
  10. Amazing summarization. Nice one m8
  11. ....another ridiculous comment.. you going for the hat-trick then?
  12. interesting. thank you for your input
  13. to make this more of a debate, if you have voted please explain why you have voted for or against. i am interested to hear from those who have voted for in particular. aside from convenience, what are the benefits of going completely cashless? if you wish to remain anonymous that is of course fine.
  14. wow. tyranny at work. just like when hotmails mail server detects 'suspicious activity' and automatically suspends your account. no more details given, just the system doing what systems do. it's frightening when you think about it.
  15. I think that is the excuse they are giving to implement these new cashless measures. i dont believe that is their sole motivation though. more like tracking it's citizens because, well, why not?
  16. oh really? i didnt see it. must have been at the bar that day. errr, if you dont like it then why are you commenting? nothing better to do?
  17. This ^^^ thanks for explaining the importance of privacy to those who may be in need of educating.
  18. it seems that Thailand is really pushing to become a cashless society by 2030. more and more places are only accepting credit cards or bank transfers these days. just yesterday i went to buy a coffee with a 500 baht note and was refused. credit card/transfer only sir. this is not an isolated incident, it has happen a few times before in various different places. of course all this is done under the guise of national security, tracking the bad guys, money laundering etc but i think we all know the real reasons why. just one more privacy right they want to take away from us by making everything we purchase traceable to a specific person. i'm personally dead against this trend and I think the cash market economy in thailand will also push back hard when it starts to affect them. imagine going to buy a pad thai on the street for 40 baht and having no cash to pay only credit card?? where is the vendor gonna swipe it exactly, lol. how about you lot? are you for or against going cashless?
  19. always has been, always will be.
  20. Thais are terrible drivers at the best of times. Sprinkle in a bit of road rage and a bottle of lao kao and you have an oven ready recipe for disaster. My thoughts go out to the innocent czech tourists and wish them a speedy recovery.
