its always nice to hear things like this. means it isnt just me and there really are serious cultural obstacles that hinder foreigners here on a daily basis. give your wife a high 5 from me! ????

its not your/my job to help them out, is it? why dont they ask their government for handouts if they are so needy? they have enough money in the coffers but just choose not to allocate it to the poor. that aint my problem, its up to the thais to fix their welfare system.

i have just started a new job for a thai company, work permit, B visa the lot. However i want some advice about working with thais. it seems the work culture is vastly different here than to the west and other asian countires. i have workd in singapore, japan and taiwan. here they seem to enjoy gossipping and eating more than they do work. they try to get me to join in the bickering about whoever is not there but i dont wantr to get involved., recently i have been given the cold shoulder at the office due to my non conformity in gossping and bickering. all i want to do is do my job and go homewithout any fuss. last friday a girl asked me why i didnt bring any food for her because it was her birthday and all her friends had brought he chocoolate, i told her she should hav e told me it was her birthday and she said no i should have asked!! i was aloso recently asdked for a donation of money to tgive to the monks, which i refused (they wanted 500 baht) and now many ppl at the office wont talk to me. i refused because i am not budhist and never go to pray so I thought they would understand, but it turns out i was wrong. is that really how it works here in the office? i would like to add that i dont rreally need the job, its just something to pass the time but i would like some adivce and how to deal with thai people in the workplace. thank you.

wish I could've bet my house on that happening as it was a dead cert! (it may have been a bit difficult with not being allowed to own it but you know what i mean ???? ) anyone who didn't see this coming is either braindead or living in cloud cuckoo land. -
