The anti-American sentiment goes up proprtionally as the Baht drops in value. What always got me when I was living there was the retiree's that live there trashing the US and being very vocal about it. All the while spending their SS money from the US. I never really understood it.They love getting the money and spending the money but then trash the US. Especially since Thailand is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Hopefully this will be addressed in the US in the next 4 years. SS needs to be reformed so the younger generation can enjoy the benefits.

This is taking Thailand to new depths.

US needs to get the budget in order. Social Security is in bad shape. Now there is an oversight comity investigating all of these programs. If legit then continue if not cut it off. Same in the US. SS needs to freeze all raises if living abroad, just like other countries. They need to raise qualifying for SS benefits to 20 years worked not 10. SS changes are coming no matter what, demographics dictates that. Reigning in the corrupt US politicians and federal employee's will help stop the misuse of funds. The voters are in favor of this overwhelmingly. So the more articles I see like this the better. And I know they are doing their job.

This piece sounds like the Democrats whining. I agree with the others, let the Thai government take care of their people. long overdue. 10-1 50% or more of the funds were being hijacked before they got to rural Thai's.

Isn't this the guy that denounced his US citizenship. So let me get this straight. He prefers Thailand over the US , gives up his citizenship to live in Thailand. Now he runs integrity legal and says he is an American attorney. Seems like he is a Thai attorney working for, or owns a company called "Integrity Legal".

As with all the other rules put in place for retiring in Thailand, 99% will pay up. Why, they sold out and have no other place to go. Easy pickings. Thailand does not want westerners in their country ,they want their neighbors from China, India etc. I expect the next change will be the 800K in the bank. With inflation it will go up to 1-2 million. That will root out the ones that don't have the income to pay income tax. That way they will boost their bank deposits and their tax base.

I've thought about it, and will go EV when my 2006 Toyota dies. But, it may outlast me. Personally I am not throwing away the money to buy an EV just because I can.

Next there will be bon-fires on the beach burning the trash. With the tourists cooking there supper over them.

So much for retiring to Thailand for a relaxed and stress free retirement. Kinda curious when the next hammer will fall! Looks like every couple of years they come up with another plan to squeeze the expats and separate them from their retirement funds..

Personally I love gambling, I once bought a scratch off. That was about 25 years ago now. So, I guess it is about time to buy another one.. I am excited thinking about it.

Makes perfect sense to me? Just fair IMHO. You pay taxes after 180 days, so? And in return you get: No residence. 1 year visa extension if you have 800K in the bank. No rights to buy land to build a home on for security. No air to breathe, living there will shorten your life by many many years. Double , tripple pricing. Sewage and garbage pumped out in the ocean and streets. Just a win , win , as far as I am concerned. I know I am coming there just to stay 181 days so I can file. A no brainer.

I say BS, the Chinese economy is in shambles. If worried about money why would Chinese go to Thailand? You keep your money in the bank or under your mattress. The wealthy may come the rest will stay home.

Well, to get ready for your next trip to the LOS's , you need to close the garage door, and start your car for a few minutes everyday. To slowly acclimate your body to Thailand. If you don't have a garage just suck on your tail pipe a few minutes every day. You will be fine and ready for Thailand.
