  1. Thailand trying to capitalize on the rich Chinese trying to get their money out of China. I lived in Thailand for years. I absolutely loved living in the new condo's as a renter. As the places fell into disrepair I would move on to the next New development. Never in a million years would I buy one after living in them. But, like I said if renting, cheap and very nice when new. Crazy loud neighbors move to the next New Condo units. Disrepair, move to the next new units being built. Thai owner thinking you are a ATM and raising the rent! Move to the next Condo units. Want a change of scenery, move to the next Condo being built all over Thailand.
  2. Texas, I have a nice home on the I-35 corridor. It's booming like crazy. But, compared to other places it is still very affordable and the money flowing in here has made it so nice for us retiree's. The city's are setting up centers and reducing the home taxes.. I completely lucked out. I bought when prices were very cheap. And when I turned 65 taxes froze. I could not ask for anything better. It has made it so I can travel abroad 6 months a year and relax at home for 6 months. And I have some wonderful neighbors.
  3. I am from the US and I admit from one of the richest and fastest growing places in the US. But, I have never seen the advantage of living in Thailand full time with the new rules. Air is pretty clean where I live , taxes are ridiculously low , petty crime is not the best, but not bad, If I want it free meals, free social centers scattered all over the city, I am out 20% medical. But, not bad. Only way I would even think about places like Thailand now is if I was renting in the US and didn't have funds. Then It might be a place to consider. But, honestly Mexico , South America , Philippines look more attractive if I was destitute. Only place I have not lived is the Philippines, but I think I will head that way as soon as my 6 months are over in South America.
  4. Was attacked in Lopburi about 16 years ago by the monkeys. Had to take the rabies shots.
  5. This is for the Chinese trying to get their money out of China not Westerners.
  6. Never tried it before but my dad told me it was the greatest feeling in the world. He used to tell everyone it was his feel good pills.
  7. That is high season for me. You can actually breathe the air.
  8. At 64 I was living in Thailand for many years and having the time of my life (kind of), what a great adventure. Now 72 I am slowing down. This guy was murdered just when he was starting to enjoy his retirement is seems.
  9. At this point it doesn't matter. Thailand has picked China as its partner moving forward. This is just political nothing more. Western expats are out, period. They are just sucking as much money out of you as they can before you leave. And of course no one will be coming to Thailand for retirement. The writing has been on the wall for several years. You can bury your head in the sand, whine, cry, and discuss it to death. Doesn't matter.
  10. I get this picture of the elites sitting in a room talking. We can generate billions with casinos. What does the detailed study say? Everyone looking around , what study?
  11. So the dictator run countries are not forking over their money to the poor Thai's. And basically the dictator run Thailand is catering to the dictator run countries. So why the whining ? All those brown envelopes from the Chinese, Russia tours agencies drying up? I feel so sorry for the poor Thai tourist industry. Is there a go fund me account set up?
  12. Democracy and Thailand ? Bet the higher ups are getting a chuckle out of that.
  13. In Spanish the o on the end of many words implies "masculine" the a "feminine". I've always thought that if I were to want to stay in Thailand for years as a US citizen I would do the same as she did. Personally for me, paying the fine and being blacklisted would not be a problem. And financially much cheaper and much less headache. What caught my eye here is Philippines is a very devout catholic country, So the cops in Thailand hanging out at a church looking for overstayers .. smart.
  14. They say that every time there is a coup. Now that the military has ratified the constitution "Fat Chance"
  15. Thailand just wants what they can get out of the existing expats, I don't think they care about new retiree's in the LOS's. Of course if stupid enough to come then they will gladly take your money.
  16. Thailand will curb tourism with its political policies. No need to implement anything. 10 years, a failed country basically.
  17. best time to visit Thailand is in the rainy season. you can breath.
  18. Joke of the day! Yeah a dictatorship government that let the ex-criminal back in is going to let anything happen to him.. hahaha This guy has bought and paid for his freedom.
  19. Actually that is a pic of me, I just paid my 800K for the visa. That was ok until they hit me with the tax on my income. Next year I will have a card board box..
  20. Just a final push of the CCP in China to get its goods and political nonsense into Asia. At this point China does not have any choice, but to expand into Asia. It is its last choice. US is re-shoring, Europe is slowly coming around. Question is can it assimilate all of Asia before its total "or almost" total exit from the US. To little to late IMHO. But, what will happen is the continued anti Western campaign in Thailand. Thailand is falling in line. Land scape will change drastically in the next few years. I expect Thailand to go down hill about like Hong Kong.. A slow and steady decline. And with the help of the CCP it will all be the US and its allies fault. All western tourists and expats will stop visiting. Just a matter of a few years now.
  21. With the political situation, No Western expat should even remotely consider Thailand as a retirement destination. And, if they do then have an exit strategy in place and ready.
  22. I spent several months in Laos driving the area seeing the devastation of the Chinese influence and debt caused by the railway. The knock off good were just stacked ceiling high in the malls. Buckle up Thailand. As far as expats go, get ready for a new round of sanctions agains you.
