I'm behind times for sure, But when I was going through there the local Malay's that passed regularly, were waved through with no paperwork what so ever. I used to get in a tuk tuk and go across all the time. Wasn't worth the hassle with immigration. And when the immigration got snippily you could walk down then walk across for a day or two no problems. The gal I was with used to go across all the time. Never once went threw immigration.

Reminds me of the old joke: In the local news, the gay community was traumatized earlier by a drive by slapping,

Just listened to a study on tourism a d travel trends from the US. Economics and spending patterns. Projected travel patterns and places. Bottom line is Thailand and that whole part of the world is off the list. Not sure about Europe , Australian etc. It touched on Chinese tourism in SE Asia ,and was not positive. Actually far from it. As China is the second largest economy at present it predicts a linear decrease of tourism depending on the political problems. Thailand is going to have to reinvent its self.

Add another country to the list of folks that won't be coming to Thailand. Pretty soon it will be only Russia, China, and North Korea in the LOS's What a great country to retire in..

I am always amazed at the western people commenting on here about the government. The pro China and Russia policies?For the last fifteen years it has been going that direction. You moved there with a pro China dictatorship government in Thailand. Then complain... Hahahaha. My suggestion to any western people living there that want to stay is to start learning Chinese, Russian language. Keep up with the the political policies and go with them. Start denouncing western values and try to fit in. Or move! You have no choice at this point.

Miserable living conditions, kills thousands of young and old people. The armpit of the world several months a year.

Thailand won't die on the scale of China IMHO. But, the communist party that rules Thailand (or Military rule) has gone full on with China. So, if China keeps falling Thailand will follow at a slower rate. Problem is the western expats that bought into retiring in Thailand will be hit with ever increasing hardships, and anti western sentiment. Unfortunately for the expats in Thailand the world is changing. And, they got caught up in the rapid change in SE Asia. 5-10 years at best before the bottom drops out completely for expats. This started several years ago and, it has and will get worse very fast now. Smart money got out of Thailand a few years ago. Now, too late for most.

Urgent meeting, my "Mia noi" needs a new Benz? Got it, lets set up a pollution fund..

How lucky you western expats are. Heaven on earth.

Thailand is just a "mini me" of China. As China contracts so will Thailand. If China collapses so will Thailand. There is absolutely nothing at this point that will help! Game over IMO. Thailand will become more nationalistic, unwelcoming to western tourists (where the money is). All you have to do is look at the direction of the current rulers. They have an iron grip on the political system and it is not going to change for decades.

Just goes to show you the state of the rest of the world. In a half way democratic world they would be at the bottom of the list.

Please, last time I was there a civil servant job like a police officer cost 1-2 million baht to get the job? And you expect them to be model citizens... hahahahaha
