  1. I'm from Texas and live there half the time, looks like he traded his pistol for a knife when he moved to Thailand. My neighbor that lives across the street from me, told me one day if I had any trouble that he just bought an assault rifle. Holy S&&it. I said ok thanks. I let him park in my driveway when I travel, and gave him a key to my house, my house is more secure than if in a compound. I love it. But, I would never go over and start any trouble with him. Works for me, but I am a tea totaler. Bring that mentality to Thailand and you are in a world of trouble. This guy won't see daylight for a long time.
  2. If this doesn't give you the direction that Thailand is heading in nothing will.
  3. Yes, even I, when going as a tourist could deal with it. Retiring there and getting old is a whole different story.
  4. Those elite visa's were always aimed at business people wanting to stay and work. What idiot would pay 900K to live in a poluted dying country? Where you can only live for 6-8 months a year because of the pollution. Either that or live under an air purifier for months on end. Same old story in Thailand, farang gets fleeced in Thailand because he is an idiot then complains... I'm always amazed at the people that get scammed, then whine about it. It is your job to take care of your finances. If you cannot then it is your fault, 99.9% of the time. If you want to retire to a country that is and has been doing everything possible to fleece the western countries and its people then you are going to have to deal with the problems that come up. You are not going to win! At this point the Thai thinking is, we can do anything we want these idiots will always come.
  5. I think most people have learned that Thailand is the "Land of Scams" and all credible businesses will do their due diligence before they invest in Thailand.
  6. I will definitely look into this. My last trip there was a Pain in the $ss. I left with no intension of ever going back. Now? I may head back for 6 months.. Perfect for people like me that have no intension of living there full time. I ditched my retirement visa in Thailand when they went with the 800K in the bank. The polution was killing me there and I was only staying 6 months a year anyway. If that is the case then I may come back for 6 months at at time. At present I travel to countries that only let you stay for 6 months a year, but it is basically free and I don't have to do border runs and jump through hoops. I love it. As I have no intension of living there anyway. Thailand is only livable for 6 months a year anyway.
  7. Again just Thailand helping China. Thailand is a lost cause. Now, it is just a matter of the US and its allies to do what ever possible to hinder their progress.
  8. Drive over to Laos if you want to see what Thailand will be like in 10 years.. Thailand is China's number 1 supporter in SE Asia. It is just a matter of time now. You wanted it, you got it. If Thai, best to learn Chinese. And in different news, my area in central Texas is booming to a point where money is like water. The government in the US is banning, restricting, and taxing Chinese goods into the ground. Manufacturing in the US is at an all time high and factory's are popping up everywhere. Chinese desperate to bypass the sanctions are moving into Mexico by the millions. Now the Mexican government is putting their foot down. Growth here is outstanding and is expected to drive employment and growth for the next 50 years. All this while Thailand has shunned the Westerners. Thailand is getting what it deserves. It will follow China into the ground.. Whoops Thailand, you drank the Chinese cool-aid, and now you are seeing the results. While the Western allies are pulling together you will be stuck with China, Russia, North Korea, Iran. Good luck with that cluster <deleted>... We don't want you anymore.
  9. Go look at some of the Philippine YouTubers. 40-50 year different is par for the course. One guy on there I follow went for testastarone treatments so he could get her pregnant. I think he is about 70. Wears me out just to think about it.
  10. And in other news, 6 foreigners were murdered at an upscale hotel in BKK.
  11. It's just for the Chinese, SE Asian countries that will buy. People that are used to the air quality and polution. No westerner retiree's will fall for the condo buying in Thailand. Or very very few. Personally I see it as a win for the condo developers. They see what is happening in China and are pushing for a change.. Good for them. I usually don't have much good to say about Thailand but this is a good idea..
  12. Don't know much about that area, but didn't Russia annex part of Ukraine a few years ago with out much trouble. So they got confident and decided to take the whole country. Everything I have heard is it was predicted and they will not stop with Ukraine. So, the West and Europe had no choice but to try to stop them in Ukraine. If Russia gets Ukraine then Poland is next and that is NATO. A direct confrontation with NATO will start a nuclear war. That whole part of the country will be a radioactive wasteland.
  13. I'm from the US and "Get the f$uck out of the way" is not something anyone would say unless ready to get into a brawl. Even with that in Texas where I am from if you called him on it and he took a swing, he might get shot. Right down the street from me there was a guy that was gassing up and got into an argument with the guy next to him. He thought he would be a bad a$$ and pulled a gun. The other guy pulled his first and killed him dead on the spot. No charges.
  14. Reminds me of my last trip to the LOS's. Was invited to lunch with a group of want to be high society Thai's, and the house was huge and very nice. It was all a gaggle of women and relatives wanting to hang with the rich Thai woman, with two families living with her. I asked where the husband was? One of the more down to earth guys nudged me and said, he is never here. He lives in a small house in the country.. hahaha I don't know how the stock market is in the UK, but in the US 200K would be a nice investment with a nice small monthly income for life.
  15. Thailand is the number 1 supporter of China. Publicly and politically. This is just a niggle, laws will be change. Sanctions will be implemented. Such as increased taxes on exported EV vehicles from Thailand. Next big expat policy to be implemented is you must own a Thai built EV to obtain your yearly extension.
  16. I just hate those flocking tourists... Much prefer the regular ones...
  17. I look forward to the weekly or even bi-weekly things the TOT dreams up.
  18. I lived down there for a couple of years while birding on the border. That was back when it was really bad. Helicopter gun ships patrolling the roads and countryside. Barricades every few hundred KM's . Don't know what they were called but looked like tanks with a 50 cal. , but on wheels. All over the highways. Razor wire around all the police stations. At first I was scared, but after I was on the border and talked to the Muslims about it. I went about my business as usual. Odd as it seems after living with them for a while I kinda got sympathetic to their cause. Luckily they were not targeting foreigners. I didn't agree with all the things they were doing, schools and such. Killing teacher and burning schools was horrible. And if a policeman or solder there it was very dangerous. I was accepted as a farang kinda of, and was invited to a few events that I kindly refused. I did not want to get to know them socially. I had a girlfriend from Issan at the time, but if I didn't there were a couple of the muslim women that I talked to and had a very good relation ship with. One of them their husband was murdered by the police and she had a small child. I almost asked her to live with me and marry me.. Crazy times. I was there right after Taksin murdered hundreds of them. That was also horrible and IMHO something he should pay for. This might have something to do with Taksin being back. But, I really don't know. Seems kinda suspicious though.
  19. When I am down a few trillion I just put it on my Visa.. What's in your wallet Thailand... 🙂
  20. Don't let Youtube and posts here sway you in the least. I am not rich by any stretch of the imagination. But, even if you have a few bucks to invest you would never do it in Thailand. Contrary to the delusional thinking of the Thai's. Most people that have a few dollars don't trow it away. Problem is Thailand has attracted the people that sell out and throw their money away very fast . It gives the impression all westerners are the same. So they target them. Now that the government is involved in that mindset, they will see just how fast that stops. And it won't bring in vast sums of money like they predict. Just the opposite will happen. As far as the US helping Thailand with educating and helping Thailand implement the tax scheme. It is all part of the plan to be nice, and helpful in SE Asia. Trying to help relations. A Cold War is here with China, and the US is just trying to show and hopefully get support in suppressing China. It is going on in all countries that have a huge China presence. First thing most investors do is look at the health and prosperity of the Stock Market, China is a joke, Thailand is not far behind. Look at the millionaire maps here. People go where the money is. The US is one of the top on the list. China is the last on the list. Thailand will go down like China. All authoritarian countries are the same. They start with a boom then go down in flames.
  21. Thailand is headed in the direction of China, you want to loose 20-30 percent of your investment in 5-10 years invest in Thailand or china. While the S&P 500 is up double digits. Scams never stop in SE Asia. Luckily western investors have learned their lesson. LOS's ( Land of Scams )
  22. Thailand trying to capitalize on the rich Chinese trying to get their money out of China. I lived in Thailand for years. I absolutely loved living in the new condo's as a renter. As the places fell into disrepair I would move on to the next New development. Never in a million years would I buy one after living in them. But, like I said if renting, cheap and very nice when new. Crazy loud neighbors move to the next New Condo units. Disrepair, move to the next new units being built. Thai owner thinking you are a ATM and raising the rent! Move to the next Condo units. Want a change of scenery, move to the next Condo being built all over Thailand.
  23. Texas, I have a nice home on the I-35 corridor. It's booming like crazy. But, compared to other places it is still very affordable and the money flowing in here has made it so nice for us retiree's. The city's are setting up centers and reducing the home taxes.. I completely lucked out. I bought when prices were very cheap. And when I turned 65 taxes froze. I could not ask for anything better. It has made it so I can travel abroad 6 months a year and relax at home for 6 months. And I have some wonderful neighbors.
  24. I am from the US and I admit from one of the richest and fastest growing places in the US. But, I have never seen the advantage of living in Thailand full time with the new rules. Air is pretty clean where I live , taxes are ridiculously low , petty crime is not the best, but not bad, If I want it free meals, free social centers scattered all over the city, I am out 20% medical. But, not bad. Only way I would even think about places like Thailand now is if I was renting in the US and didn't have funds. Then It might be a place to consider. But, honestly Mexico , South America , Philippines look more attractive if I was destitute. Only place I have not lived is the Philippines, but I think I will head that way as soon as my 6 months are over in South America.
