Thailand is about like China , you really don't know what is going on. You cannot believe a word of the news coming out of China or Thailand. No telling what happened to them.

Thailand ranks as one of the worst in the world for social services.

Doubt if you will see huge numbers. Their stock market is falling off a cliff. They are devaluating the Yuan to try and gain traction in trade. Their economy is in shambles. But, of course they are the savior of the Thai economy.

No westerners are going to Thailand to retire. Other than the guys that watch Youtube... LOL. Thailand is and has been a dead end for years. Basically the retiree's that are there now will be, and are dying off in droves. Military , Chinese influence, Rich Thai's that embrace the Chinese way have been driving that nail in the coffin for years. Most from the west are bypassing it now. Personally I have no problem with it what so ever. Times change. I spent 10 very enjoyable years there , would not change a thing. But, that was then. Now I would not even think about it. Another thing to think about is the geopolitical issues. Things are getting worse between the west and China by the day. All geopolitical people here are saying China is in a free fall and 10 years will be in serious trouble. I personally do not like politics , but if you are retiring you need to think about the repercussions of things like this. On that alone I would not even think about retiring there. Western dollars are drying up in Thailand and China is trying to step in with the Military and rich support. A slippery slope for westerners IMHO.

No, I passed on solar. I got a quote, but with 10 year pay back and with my electric bill being only 63 dollars last month I cannot see the advantage. Plus I would have to put on a new roof before the panels went up. Don't want the hassles.

I am living in the sun belt. I installed a high efficient A/C and good widows. Put sun shades up. I am all electric. My electric company has a page that compares all the homes in my area. I am always at or below the most efficient homes.

IMO Thailand needs a complete overhaul. The rich are getting richer and the poor and old are suffering. Thailand ranks close to the bottom for senior benefits in the WORLD. Raise the pay, start taxing and get the country in order. Never happen , The rich see the old and poor as throw away assets.

Thailand's immigration problems are a joke. You should see my countries Immigration problems. The poor immigrants are the norm in Thailand and elsewhere. That being said last time I saw a post here it was mostly Cambodian's and migrant workers that the Thai employers most likely turned in so they could stiff them on the wages.

True, but with so many other countries with less of the ridiculous yearly extension rules. I have a choice of not participating in their rules. Life is good.

Really if you wanted to stay in Thailand for a few years without leaving. Probably would be better off just going on overstay. No more hassles and easy living until they caught you or you wanted to leave. Then just pay up and go to another country.

Look at what happened when the Army took over. No one really cared. And the ones that did were passed aside pretty quick. 10-1 nothing will change in Thailand

Dry season expected to end next Monday with the arrival of rainy season I have always heard that when it rains allot it is not dry!

If so you can kiss tourism good by for good. I doubt that will happen. A soft coup will be more like it.

After a decade of hopelessness, Thailand welcomes back the long lost sense of hope, aspiration and optimism. Rich and the military don't care what the people want. I'll believe it after a couple of years of democracy. Until then I say fat chance anything will change.

Financial planning is not taught in school. In the US it is the same. It needs to be part of the curriculum.
