  1. I personally do not see much hope for Chinese stocks on the US stock exchange. After opening up and trying to get Chinas currency as the global currency , China had to slam on the breaks. The Chinese were buying everything they could to get the currency out of china. Even they did not want it. If they keep turning inward and stop travel. It may get ugly fast.
  2. Wish I was as optimistic as you. I have seen it take a plunge unlike any other. Mexico stock has taken off like a shot.. Amazing.. Personally I am only holding to see what the climate is like in a year or so. I think I will jump ship. To much turbulence for me. Mexico is looking so much better.. I will take a loss , but with the political climate best for me I think. Best of luck.
  3. We will know this time next year. I hold some Chinese stock. It is the worst performer in my portfolio. If they can pull out of it so much the better if not??? Personally I see a serious problem , and the currency flight is staggering.
  4. As a US citizen that used to live here full time, and still visit some times. I could care less. The Thai government made their choice a few years ago. I personally tell everyone that I know back home to avoid Thailand at all costs. I vote with my dollars. I am not putting up with their nonsense. This is just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. The Chinese were going strong and wanted their currency to be the world currency, Chinese were coming into Thailand by the buckets full. Chinese diplomats came in and sold Thailand on the idea that China would take over and wanted Thailand to push out the US and its allies. It worked, the US and it's allies have been pulling out and so have the expats and tourists. Curious to see how Thailand comes out of this. But, no matter how they come out of it. I refuse to spend much money to support them..
  5. I am heading for a bustling high season also, just not in Thailand... Heading for pristine beaches, clean beaches, clear water and no air pollution. Now if I get a Thai babe with me perfect. Guess I will settle for a Mexican hottie.. Only problem with the Mexican gals is they smother you with affection...
  6. Too many other places for westerners to go now. I am here now. And am enjoying myself. But, I would never come here to live. Pristine beaches of Mexico and South America. Beautiful jungles and nature. Just no comparison what so ever. There is absolutely nothing here anymore that you cannot get 10 fold elsewhere. IMHO only ones coming here and thinking it is paradise are the poor and uneducated.
  7. I'm in Pattaya now. Lots of Thais on the weekends and lots of old men like me... ????
  8. Forecast is extremely grim for 2023 .. For the world pretty much. Of course TOT will have Thailand as the hub of tourism and back to 2019 numbers ... Haha
  9. She will get away with it. Simple case of her talking to the spirit of the man after he died. Take it all baby, I love you mak mak, Phee in Thailand trumps all.
  10. Agree 100%. I tried renting for about 4 years. What a nightmare. Constant hassle. I keep mine vacant most of the time now. But, it stays in good condition and when I am ready it will go up for sale.
  11. Exactly, I am in my 70's. I still like new scenery. But, at this age I will head back to the US in the next few years and sell my home and chill out. Just pick a stable country that you think will be around for a while and you like and forget about it. All this money , money, money nonsense in Thailand is for the younger crew. Thailand is comical IMHO, just waiting for the next one to roll out.
  12. I am not sure of the all the in's and out's of this visa but, If all you have to show is a couple of years of 80K / yr and get a 10 year visa then there are literally millions of guy in the west that wold qualify. If you are fixing to retire and know you want to retire in Thailand then it would be a dream come true. And , I would of done it if available when I retired. 80K / yr. is nothing in the west. That is middle income in the US when I retired. And today I would consider 80K/ yr as average at best. I know a plumber and a electrician in my neighborhood in the US that make that and one much more.
  13. Dollar is way up. hotels are discounting allot. Cheap place to visit.. Never spend money here in Thailand. If talking retirement visa then not for me at this point here in Thailand. To many other place offer me a much better deal with MUCH better scenery and nature, and so much cleaner. Nothing against Thailand what so ever. Just now a good fit for me. and my money. I think the Chinese and Indians will flood in here and shore up the economy. But, here in Pattaya they are not here? Strange. You guys need to run a media blitz in India and China to tell them Thailand is open. Maybe offer an incentive to visit Thailand... As far as owning and running a business here in retirement you would have to be daft in the head... haha Not to mention the long term outlook for Thailand is not that good. Nice place to come for a shot time.
  14. There is one guy here that will use it. But, I doubt this will amount too much. If at 80K / yr and wanting to work here then ok. But it is not for retiree's in general IMO. Actually if at 80K / yr from abroad and under 50 you would probably want to go to a developing country that has much better incentives and long term outlook.
  15. Sounds like a perfect fit for you. But, if in retirement most do not have 80K / yr income . This 10 year visa is designed for working people that are under 50 IMO. The majority of retiree's here will use the 800K or agents. I am in that boat if I want to stay. I am under 80K. But, oddly enough I have funds.. So, anyone wanting to go to a developing country needs to do their research IMHO. With demographics in play and the state of the political climate. Just me I guess, but Thailand would be the last place I would want to work, or retire with say 15-20 years left in retirement.
  16. In the US you can own land , own a business and work legally. In Thailand you get what you pay for.. absolutely nothing! Thailand offers nothing! For anyone with a very good skill set ??? America or Thailand... hahaha Go figure why all want to move to the US.
  17. I have heard the government is also investigating the disappearance of Thai desserts and sweets around the dispensary's. Believed to be gang related. So far the investigation has determined the amount of cannabis sold is in direct proportion to the disappearance.
  18. I will be belling up for the next shot as soon as I get back to the states. I got covid here about a month ago and already had 3 shots. Personally I believe it saved my bacon , with out a doubt.
  19. If I were you I would start saving now. 800K for retirement won't last much longer.
  20. Good luck Thailand, inflation is out of control. Stock market is in shambles. Thailand is not doing any better but they think they are the center of the universe for travel...hahahaha Problem is the prediction is that for the next 5 years minimum it is going to be nightmare at best for many countries and their citizens. As far as not spending as much. I am in that category. As usual as inflation bites the US dollar goes to record highs. So I only came here because I have a few bucks saved and the hotels are offering huge discounts. If not for that I would not set foot here. I am one of the ones that is not putting up with the stupid immigration and visa rules.. In a nut shell Scr$w Thailand.
  21. With the geopolitical problems at hand. Thailand will be lucky to get half of the 2019 numbers EVER again IMO. Interesting to see in the next few years how Thailand fairs.
  22. Thailand knows it has made some very bad decisions. The elite want China the rest want the Westerners. I think they call it "friend shoring" with de globalization. Thailand is in a pickle. China or the US or anyone else that can help Thailand. Japan has chosen the US. Thailand wants the best of both. But, that is not going to happen by all accounts. My personal option is any expat in Thailand in the next 5 years will be in pretty bad shape. Inflation will rip Thailand to pieces and there is nothing anyone can do to stop it. The government will get pretty heavy handed trying to secure a country that has taken the wrong road. There are some very good papers that Thai academics have written on the subject. They know what is coming.
  23. I would not bet on any big numbers from China or elsewhere for that matter. The Chinese currency flight is out of control and the CCP is clamping down. Thailand is just trying catch the tailwind of the currency flight. The Chinese are desperate to get their money out of China. Same thing with China thinking it was going to open up and try to secure the Yuan as a global currency. As soon as they opened up the Chinese people started buying anything they could out of china. CCP locked that down and realized the Yuan would never amount to much. even their own people did not want the currency.
  24. I drove from Rayon to Chon Buri along the beach. Dead as a door nail. Just talked to a local here that told me this area used to be packed with people. Now on the weekends only Thai's . And the beach ? You would think would be clean. It is a disgusting cess pool... Trash all along the beach.
