Thailand’s household-debt storm taking deadly toll on guarantors
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Never invest more than you can easily walk away from. Nice to see someone thinking the right way. I built a bungalow and the budget was 10 years worth of rent @ 10,000baht per month my thinking was we had a child and the house would be his home if for some reason I had to walk away. Well we did walk away from Thailand after 8 years we still have our house and the investment was less than would have paid in rent (house was under budget as I designed and project managed plus bought every thing myself) 18 years married very happy living in the uk with our second home in thailand. Again never ever invest in Thailand any more than you can afford to walk away from! -
Thailand’s household-debt storm taking deadly toll on guarantors

Think you have recieved bad financial advice but a very good excuse. I was an expat on retierment visa and purchased over the years one pickup, one suv and 3 big bikes all on finance. I could walk into tisco bank and walk out with a vehicle loan never once a problem. -
What dribble! First 1 ton Pickups in Thailand are basically the same dimension width and length with high changed by suspension etc. If you are concerned about tearing up the roads don't look at pickups look at ev's as their weight "battery" not only destroys the roads but also destroys any car it hits due to its weight. Weight/speed!!!! All a raptor is, is a Wildtrack with factory off road add ons.

Must disagree about it not being easy to get a loan or credit card for a Thai. My wife who had no job got a credit card because married to me while I would have to deposit say 50,000 baht to get a 50,000 baht credit card so I would be borrowing my money and paying interest for the pleasure. Obviously I said NO!

Used car sales in Thailand are scum who pray on people who can't get credit to buy a new car or people desperate for money selling their car. In 2019 when I was leaving Thailand I took my 4yr old 4 x 4 everest to several dealers and even though they were selling 2 WD Everest for a million baht that was a year older than my Everest, they offered me 50,000baht (thinking desperate to sell). I sold private and got 800,000baht.

Sorry but there is nothing green about electric cars. If you like electric cars then Tesla are probably the best but don't kid yourself they are green. -
Magazine ranks Thailand 9th best retirement spot on Earth

Didn't take long! Many would and do leave Thailand. The ones who scream the loudest at how great it is are ofter the ones who invested everything and now can't leave. 90% of the expats I have known in Thailand have left including myself and family. Left our house and big bike. Never ever invest more in Thailand that you can't walk away from. -
High-end watch demand increases among younger Thai generation
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Strange advert sorry non article. Top quality watches have always been very popular within Thailand society. Rama V I believe 1900's gave Royal Warrant to JW Benson of London watch maker (the company held Warrants from Queen Victoria and her husband, King af Denmark, last Tsar of Russia and Emperor of Japan). -

Aren't these cycles of 7 years or so? All this Blaming climate change something the sun controls and the earths orbit. All this alarmist rhetoric enriches a few and has been going on since the 1940's with every prediction failing to materialise. Those screaming the most are making the most and quite a few own beach front property worth multi millions of dollars so obviously not bothered. People used to laugh at the crazies with their billboards "The World is Ending"! Just ask yourself one question "can you get a 20 or 40 year mortgage in London, Holland, Miami or infact any costal area of the world? The answer is Yes!

DES ministry set to combat cybercrime with new AI registry

Be very careful Thailand! Just look what banks are doing to their customers in the UK. People are being debanked and not just from their bank but on mass all banks. It has transpired people from windo cleaners, small businesses, political parties and people (including their family members) even a paster/vicar. In the uk you can not exist without a bank account. More and more businesses are refusing to take cash!!! -
Quite a lot have been bitten by Jack Rats (one of my favourite small dog breeds) small dog breeds. Small breed dogs bite a lot and yes children are scared. If you kept any dog regardless of size in those conditions they could and would attack. Do you honestly think 3 small cute dogs could not kill? Try doing research. There is a phenomena where perfect pet dogs turn on their owners. This occurs when the owners get down on the ground play with their dogs and the dog get into pack frenzy and attack. Size is irrelevant. Knowledge is key. There are some bad dogs that should be put to sleep (same as people) but most bad dogs are because of bad owners.

Not really: as in the uk and other countries a farmer has the right to protect his animals ie if a dog is not on a leash it can be shot!!! Keep your dogs under control. Note: I'm a dog/animal lover and I hate seeing dogs off the leash near roads or when people have little or zero control over their dogs. I had well trained gun dogs who were never ever off the lead near roads and always brought to heal and leashed when other dogs or people about.

Fugitive British National Arrested in Thailand over £7m Fraud Case
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
Had to look this up as sounded so ridiculous: They got 11 years each and not 30 years each "bad reporting". Quite sophisticated operation they were selling devices that enabled the viewer to watch pay TV free. I doughty they will spend more than a couple of years inside a prison. -
Such nasty twisted people on here! He quite possibly admitted thinking 2 tabs thinking pay fine and go. He later denied it! The Thai police are corrupt to its cord and this is a well known thai police scam (just 2 tabs). Just coincidentally arrested outside his condo where 2 tabs found on him, well I suppose its better than 2 rounds found by airport customs. I'm sorry but I believe him before I believe the police.
