  1. I recently took out travel insurance for my family and I and to be honest I never noticed anything about driving vehicles ot jet ski's! I also have a totally different view and the opposit of most on here who always seem to blame the victim because I blame the shop who rented him the bike. Why didn't they ask to see his licence? Oh money No1!!! You can't walk into a rental in the UK and rent a vehicle without first showing your licence....
  2. One murder in the village I lived in was one guy giving advice to his friend about who his wife left him. Stabbed to death and another was giving a couple of baht to a singer at a karaoke again Stabbed to death. None went to prison as they paid the family death money.... wild wild west has nothing on village life.
  3. In the uk on average between 30,000 and 40,000 die from flu every year however the strangest of things happened in 2020/21 Zero deaths from flu!! Now go check UK.GOV website for more eye opening facts... Also in the uk the figures are always adjusted down as those who were terminally ill are removed from the annual figures. Die from not die with. When will this nonsense stop.
  4. For me the uncertainty and ever changing immigration rules is a worry you do not need hanging over you as you get old and was the reason we left in 2019. I looked at health insurance for my wife and son and found it so expensive I opted to self insure with buying a very nice SUV and 3 Big Bikes "the idea if something happened I could sell" this worked out well for us as when we left I had a very nice suv and 2 big bikes to sell (wife wouldn't sell her bike, lol). I shopped a lot in Tops and Big C and started seeing prices higher that the uk. What is ignored is the 400k or 800k per person which has to basically sit in a Thai bank "No thank you"
  5. Go back to the uk for a while, get your pension back up then go back with a smile.
  6. Really! You have basically one report from mostly one prespective. It is a very sorry state if you thing anything justifies a beat down in a shop with a weapon welding pack of rabid drunk animals. I'm ex army and it could be said my voice is quite loud and I've never been attacked like that anywhere else in the world. I would disagree on this occasion and put racial jealousy right at the top. I shocked you would even try to justify this attack. Good luck in Thailand and hope you are never featured on here after a rabid pack attack for accidentally daring to offend LD Syndrome male in passing..
  7. I would agree, however we do not know how fast the situation went from "Your having a laugh", wind your neck in situation to the LD syndrome kicking in with the Thai pulling a knife. I have had several altercations with taxi drivers over the years and thai males (always lone pack not formed) and its gone from zero to weapon very fast and I include gun!!!
  8. The reason we left Thailand in 2019 after nearly 9 years was due to uncertainty (changing rules on a whim with very little warning). The ever hanging threat of compolsory health insurance hanging over my head, the 400/800k being kept in a Thai bank etc. I learnt very early on I could buy a very nice suv, several big bikes as my health insurance which I could sell if needed (I never needed to). I reached an age that having to start again due to a change in circumstances was a risk I could not take. Best move we ever made returning to the UK. Children are very happy, education far better and free and even though the national health service is free my wife and children all have private health care for about 2,500 baht (£65) a month, compare that to Thai health insurance!!! A very wise man told me "Never invest more in Thailand than you can afford to walk away from". Yes I still have a house in Thailand, yes I still love Thailand and we just had a wonderful holiday there but we will never ever live there again.
  9. Really, an unbelievable statement! It is very common for groups of Thai's to attack a foreigner like a pack of rabid dogs and use weapons. I get sick of this nonsense: happens in other countries or blame the victim. They should be arrested and charged with attempted murder if sticks, clubs and a knife was used or even threatened with. No this doesn't happen in the uk or any other country I have visited or been/served in.
  10. Think about it please and look at the photo! Fro. The photo and the straightness of the vehicle it looks like it just drove straight into the well lit tented area and I don't think children can throw water 30 ++ meters up the road to effect breaking do you? I personally don't like Songkran however I think this family took extremely good precautions to allow their children to play. Blame the driver not the victims!!!
  11. Very sad, Watch crimes are becoming a big problem in the UK as gangs are targeting, following and robbing people wearing expensive watches. I love watches but thankfully prefer antique pocket watches or old vintage wrist watches. JW Benson watches have a great history (my favorite maker) and my 60 year old Omega "sea master" is always my go to dress watch.
  12. Literally just asked my sister in law who is a doctor "how in Thailand can the give figures when the holiday isn't over" she just laughed and said "their crazy, stupid". Kind of says it all. She also has strong words about drunk driving injured people. I personally find thai roads so dangerous I would not drive after a glass of beer because you need to be so sharp!
  13. 100 baht no where £1. £1 = 41 baht I the glory days when I first visited Thailand £1 = 72 baht and that was in 2002/3. For me it is never about the money it is all about principle and good service should always = a good tip unless there is a service charge then I refuse to tip.
  14. Nice retirement I imagine with medical and dental free and free food and boarding! Time off for good behaviour might not even come close to doing 10 years.
  15. Think a third of those injured die from their injuries maybe slightly more in Thailand figures.
  16. The slaughter never ends infact the deaths dip during the deadly days it's just the spotlight is shined on these days and compared to other "deadly days" on record. Isn't it also true that on average a third of those injured actually die from their injuries?
  17. A little note to those who are so clever and worldly: the scams run now are so very sophisticated, one I get hit with often in the uk happens when I'm waiting for a parcel delivery (sometimes from Thailand). A problem with the parcel, a Post Office Link Page which is identical to the real post office Web page. Wanting a small charge and bank details to do the transfer!!!a crewed phone call is from Amazon that states £799.00 monthly charge is about to be taken from your account (£7.99) this is the hook!!!so many scum out there and sadly most seem to be from Asia. I've been swan arso many times by them.... but I never ever decry anyone who falls for these scams, neither should any of the supposed worldly characters on here.
  18. No matter how experienced you are Thailand's roads are so very dangerous. Tourist's who can turn up at a shope show I'd and ride off into the sunset (zero training). Mix in Thai driving and then add a little thai ego, well what could go wrong? Went to pick the wife and her friend up from an island trip and even before I left the village 3 times a thai on a scooter just pulled out infront of me. The whole 15km journey was full of very bad dangerous drivers from crawling along, pulling across 3 lanes to speeding weavingthrough traffic. Reminded me of taking the children to school before we left......
  19. I would disagree. A few days or a week is easily missed however when you get into 3 or 4 figures a different story and they are the ones that should be reported. Using foreigners as a score card is despicable.
  20. Wow, I just had to stop reading the victim Blaming on here: how dare you come to thailand and get hurt, beaten to a pulp or killed etc. The arrogance of people expecting to get a good service, paths you can walk on, roads you can travel on without fear of death, go for a walk without fear of being robbed or worse. Heaven forbid you dare try exciting activities and expect they are safe!!! Spend meny thousands of pounds going to thailand for your holiday the slip on poorly maintained structures and break your neck... the owner of the structure has responsibility (regardless of what country its in) if unsafe then appropriate signage and fencing should be erected (before an accident occurs and not afterwards).
  21. Brown envelopes! Subs without engine's not cancelled! OmG! I wonder how many tracking devices are in these purchases?
  22. Talking of Leeds, I had an office there and one of my reps asked if I wanted a drink at a brothel/sports bar, I could not believe it, I drove past it every day, it was a converted cinema just off the main road, I regret not taking a look but not the right image for the boss... lol
  23. How to bring in tourism. I can only imagine the shakedown of armed brown shirt mafia has on a tourist and their words of wisdom to any and all in their home country.
  24. The last time the uk had a military coup in 1653. You should study history and not believe the snap shot left wing zealots. The British Empire brought stability and prevented mass genocide as was happening in India! Stop slavery (a fact that GB just finisd paying the debt for retribution's paid not to mention the over 3000 RN sailors who lost their lives). So yes I am very happy to be in my country and I can hold my head high. I suppose if you live in a bubble and care not about the suffering of others with an I'm alright Jack attitude dod on!!!
