Thailand boosts tourism budget to 5bn baht, targets off-peak travellers
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Not at all! Kow tao is spelt many different ways like many Thai words including places. Khow Taow etc. I speak very little Thai for two simple reasons: first when I was teaching I witnessed foreign teachers using their class who they were meant to be teaching English practicing their Thai which I felt was very wrong. Second my children are bilingual as I have only spoken English to them and their mother speaks Thai to them (even now living in the uk). I also found when living in Bangkok there is enough English words now in Thai vocabulary than understanding conversations is easy. -

Now they are and have been for a few years. Have some advice for you which I was given as a newbie in Thailand "Never invest more in Thailand than you can comfortably just walk away from". -
Foreigners Rounded Up In Surat Thani Crackdown

Think you need to check your memory. I was living and working in Thailand during Taksin and the coup. Life was great when Thaksin was the big boss then the coup!!! things changed including attitudes towards expats. English teachers were replaced with "pilipean" teachers. Visa rules changed and droves of expats left me included. -
JSCCIB Urges Preparedness for Climate Change Impact on Economy
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I can't read this cult nonsense. We used to laugh at the man in the street with billboard saying "The end is near". Since the 1940's the world had been going to freeze, burn up, no ice sheet to much ice now climate change (which is and always has changed. 40 to 0. Is the definition of madness believing this time!! -

One day your rose coloured glasses will clear and by then it will most likely be to late for you and like many become trapped. In your eyes I probably know nothing but with only first landing in Thailand in 2002, living island life on Kow Tow which then was a paradise (not anymore), living the Bangkok life and also rural southern Thailand and things are not rosey at all. TAT are a joke, Thailand should be a holiday wonderland and not far off perfect but greed and theft of funds it regressed instead of progressed. Roads and infrastructure are non existent (being disabled and holidaying in Thailand is a no no then there is the Mafia in the form of police, taxi military and the risk of being attacked or bitten by rabid dogs or thai men oh and the deadly roads. If I did not have family there I would never set foot in the place but hay I know nothing. -
The dog should be put down and compensation paid (million plus) as those are lifetime facial scares. I hate seeing dogs not on a leash because you never know. I hate idiots who say "I have total control of my dog" No you do not as the unexpected can happen. My dogs were always lashed unless working on a shoot.

Try educating yourself. First go research direct to places like UK. GOV website where facts are shown and not spin from vested interest xxxxx (can't call them people). Even the UK had to stop this nonsence about children getting vax.- 130 replies

Yes. Try watching a senior member being interviewed and admitting the vax had not been tested for transferability. Plus if you think 12 white mice is good enough for you then crack on have you seen the report? Well its just blacked out pages. I got 2 vax and regret it so much. My wife got every one and became iller and iller till she had to stop work oh and about a month after her last shot she got covid. Note I got it as well (last vax was over a year) Mt symptoms lasted a few minutes then was gone. There are so many damaged now and I have several family members injured (try looking at the official uk government figures 1 in 800). The truth will always come out good or bad.- 59 replies

It must be joyous being so squeaky clean. Never cutting your own grass, washing or driving your own car/motor vehicle and many, many more jobs reserved only for Thai's. Sorry but no foreigner in Thailand can survive in Thailand if a vip takes a dislike to them or is jealous (ask the Duch guy and his wife)....?....

Phuket Governor Orders Investigation Over Underwater Painting
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Being only a master scuba diving instructor with about 400 dives in the gulf of Thailand (2002 - 2005) I have seen vis of 30~40 meters at Sail Rock looking down to the sand bottom from a couple of meters off the surface. Watching people do their skills. Great dives there and yes I dove in very bad vis where seeing more than a couple of meters was challenging also encountered inversion of bad vis to clear vis plus had several great dives with whale sharks. But yes the photo as I said looks photo shopped. -

How many dives have you done and where? I will admit it wasn't common, however in the early 2000's I often dived in perfect vis especially around Sail Rock in the Gulf of Thailand. But, the photo does look photo shopped. Both Kow Tow and the diving were perfect back then with very few dive experience world wide coming close. -
An abolition of conscription will mean more inequality : Nipit
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Please explain this bizzare statement? I served in a western military where commissions were not purchased and officers were educated and well trained . I never saw officers drunk infact the few I served with hardly drank. I did only serve 10 and a half years, 3 of which were active service. -
What a shame, the poor bird doesn't look in very good condition. I hope it finds a good falconer to take care of it for the next 30 years or so, (Raptors live nearly twice as long with a good falconer taking care of them). The eagle will not last long in the wild and probably never will if its been owned from a chick (nest robbed) If it is rope around its leg then this poor bird has had an idiot owning it. Hope it doesn't end up in a Thai zoo.
