  1. this is an advert not a news item.............what is going on at AN?
  2. clown...........as in any country the punishment meted out should be approproate to the crime that has been committed. Just carte blanche handing out harsh penalties is utterly ridiculous, counter-productive to law enforcement and actually illegal. There are set punishments for specific crimes to avoid what you're suggesting. Using your logic the next time a traffic cop stops you and you slip him/her some cash under your driving licence - you will be ok to be charged and dealt with harshly? Jailed yes? Grow up and step down from your holier-than-though stance.
  3. your bitterness from your own experience is clouding your judgement I think. These airlines would not even exist if they were run by idiots, that comment alone says more about you than it does about the people who run the airlines. The staff are not idiots either, they are just different to what you might be used to in the USA but so are a lot of things in S.E.Asia. being different doesn't make something wrong. Lots of things are done "differently" here and it's easy to refer to them as stupid, but it is also innacurate. They just think differently.
  4. correct, market forces determine whether someting is overpriced. People will vote with their feet. These airlines need to invest in training the staff properly too so that they dont need 2-3 people to do a job that 1 person can do and pay a proper wage. Fuel tax and airport tax needs to be looked at but these airlines need to look inwardly too at their own operational costs and trim the fat off.
  5. If you mean they're hiring Burmese then it's because the Burmese can get low cost visas and work permits - they dont even need an employer. They also have a great work ethic and don't spit their dummies out if you pull them up on something. And they do it all with a smile. And they're honest. And reliable. Why hire a Thai when the Burmese do it better and with less hassle?
  6. "Thanet believes that the majority of operators would prefer to legally employ local workers and foreign workers with work permits if the process were simpler, to avoid potential penalties. However, the current immigration process is complicated and inconvenient, causing some operators to resort to illegal recruitment". Thanet is either unaware of the MOU between Maynamr, Laos and Cambodia or simply choosing to forget about it. Passport holders from these 3 countries have no need to be in Thailand illegally and wouldn't be if employers stopped paying a pittance for a days work. The problem with the Filipinos is easily resolved........sign an MOU with The Philiipines. The sheer volume of Filipinos that are here would see a huge spike in revenues for the government, be a huge plus employers who would no longer need to hire illegal workes from The Philippines cause they'd all be legal, plus the border crossings would clear as they wouldn;t be doing visa runs every 15 or 30 days. I can't see any reason for the Philippines gov.t to resist a move loke this as the revenues that their government take in from Immigration would rise substantially in addition the the revenues that are sent home from Thailand to Philippines. There literally 1000's of filipinas work as domestic workers and they have no option but to work illegally atm which also places the families that hire them at risk because they're hiring illegal workers - often in ignorance. But hey! That would need someone in the Government to do something constructive for a change. Thaksin instigated the MOU with Myanmar, Laos & Cambodia so maybe there is a chance something might be done.
  7. This article reads more like an advert than a genuine news item. Apart from the length of the queues I have always thought Suvarnabhuni is one of the best planned and easiest to navigate airports in the world. It works on almost all levels. I would seriously question whether anyone from this UK financial information and research website Business Financing is even qualified to conduct and then extrapolate the results of such a survey. These online surveys are notoriously unreliable and the questions posed are designed to illicit a particular response anyway.......just like the headlines here at AN. I'd wager nobody at Business Financing has ever even left UK. It would carry more weight if they were providing an "informed" opinion.
  8. I will, thanks. None of what you say is fact.......much closer to vindictive gossip and hearsay. Of course some filipinas will dislike Thais, just as some will dislike Brits and some will dislike other filipinas. Stating it as a fact for all filipinas and also then roping in the Burmese too is just ridiculous. Are you so deperate to join in you'd make stuff up?
  9. what absolute tosh. Who have you been listening to - bar flies?
  10. no rant.........just correcting your childish misquotes
  11. not just the musicians and ladyboys, there are literally 1000's work as domestic workers and work illegally. Taking jobs away from workers who have spent hard earned money buying a visa and a work permit and openly working and laughing at the system. I cant say I blame them, it is a joke!
  12. a good old old fashioned turf dispute.
  13. sadly you're correct. This is what happens when justice is really only available to the highest bidder.
  14. if I had claimed "all Thais never lie" then that would have been really stupid. But I didn't claim that. If I had claimed "Thais in general never lie" that would also have been stupid. But I didn't. I think if you're going to make assumptions and mis-quote people you're in for a world of trouble. Should I assume from your post you're the same nationality as the passengers and that everyone from that country runs away and tries not to pay?
  15. so you think these two passengers who tried to run away and not pay...........are telling the truth? And automatically think the taxi driver is lying? Odd.
  16. did the nationality of the two passengers escape the reporter? Thank God the senior officer supported the taxi-driver and agreed that passengers are expected to cover the toll. Taxi drivers dont make a lot of money as it is in any case..........bit of a shame that in this day and age there are still shameless people around who run away from paying.
  17. she sat on steps leading from a million baht-a-month seaside residence. He's got some serious wedge if her rents for a million baht/month. This will be sttled out of court if he has any sense.
  18. he had a Uniform and they ignored him and even mocked him...........someone had to teach them a lesson. 😉 Considering just how many guns there are in circulation in Thailand there are surprisongly few incidents like this - fortunately.
  19. doing sexual gyrations? Dear me - wasn't hard to get you on-board.
  20. Thailand is neither of those things and you saying it is doesn't make it so. Thailand was issuing Russian passport holders with a VOA long before Thaksin was voted in. It was not a policy of his. There were very few countries offered VOA to Russian nationals back then and so Thailand became a holiday destination for them and has continued to be one. There was a time when roubles were coming into the country in briefcases and holdalls and then being spent in Pattaya. 2/3 of all the properties sold at that time were bought by Russians. Why would the government change their policy and stop that? To please some keyboard warrior foreigners who are exempt from voting yet who think that their opinion on all things political in Thailand actually matters? "Our" voice is neither needed or appreciated. I suspect you already know that though so I'm not sure why you're banging that drum.
  21. That is possibly the most ignorant comment I have seen in a long time.
  22. thats how it should be. Being selective over who is allowed in and who isn't lends itself to discrimination allegations and of course the corruption of those officials who are determining who can and cannot come in. Visas are already issued on the understanding that the local Laws will be followed by the visa holder - that just needs to be enforced. ANY "criminal" activity should result in depeortation and a ban for X years. Other anti-social behaviour should incur warnings, fines and then incarceration. The laws are already there, it is the enforcement of them that needs a shake-up (or should that be a shake-down?)
