  1. Yes, they both suck, in their own respective ways! Years and years later since this thread started
  2. Have this happen in JFK and god forbid what the other passengers will do to you and more importantly how fast you will be dragged off the plane on your backside. Lucky it happened in Thailand!
  3. I guess What i'm trying to say is that it depends on their mood. Sometimes they WILL check everyone for 30 minutes and then stop for 5 hours. So I'm not saying they should or should not check everyone but instead letting you know how the system works in Thailand. By the way, every country is indeed different. Australia for instance will check your bag for all food products just about all the time. And then of course, while checking for food, if there's something else, then....
  4. Try the med's and if it doesnt work, then you could explore other options. Acupuncture, Physiotherapy, maybe even a thai massage that knows a bit about stretching and injuries? Hopefully by this time you've already done the RICE protocol and you feel alot better. If you don't, i frequent a place for therapy and will be happy to share the name if needed.
  5. Honestly, you'll be just fine. The customs check people when they feel like doing their job and most of the times, they dont want to do their job.
  6. It's because alot of thai folks have transitioned to Grab, hence making the taxi que just non existent. I've been back a few months ago and used Grab and it was cheaper, but after realizing the non wait time at the taxi stand, that works out way better.
  7. I'd also suggest you look into Grab, easy, convenient and probably cheaper than the limo transfer!
  8. This is a new name, gotta check this one out! Rose Lane!
  9. Agree, the answer has been different from different doctors when asked this question. So far, the safe number seems to be at least 2 weeks, but you should double check the doctor performing your surgery.
  10. I'm sorry if this topic has already been covered, but I'm curious to know who goes where and which burger is the best at that place. Having a craving!
  11. Is it for pain or just a general foot rub to pass the day?
  12. True - but that can easily be verified once they say they are from some agency, give that agency lanline a call to cross check their names.

    Insurance

Wonder what the costs are for these things. That being said, why not just have find my iphone on all the time ????
  14. Then this is the place that should be able to solve the issues for you - Bangkok Physiotherapy Center. I've had great success with my back pain working with Bangkok Physiotherapy Center on Sukhumvit 39. I went to them for 6-7 sessions, and I've been happy with the results. Pain gone down, learnt different ways to manage the pain post the treatments. Not sure if it makes any difference but I worked with Ploi and New.
  15. Cmon guys, the prices we are all referring to is from 10 years ago. These prices, while no longer 'street food' pricing, is still considerably cheaper than some restaurants in and around that area. I'd still go and grab a bite if i was around the area. And the 24 hour part probably is an added benefit too!
  16. 3000 Baht seems a bit low as a deposit anyways, usually they would take at least a month ahead of time. But yes, that seems to be the Thai style sometimes!
  17. Yes, doctors suggest this when they realize that the patient cannot afford the surgery at the larger hospitals. They do not 'expect' any gifts, but will happily take the gifts. At the end of the day, the doctor is doing his/her ethical part of wanting to treat the patient, even if it means they get paid less to do it. Becoming a doctor at the end of the day means that you want your patients to recover and while it is a job and you want to be paid well, you do realize that recovery is a huge part of your success. And that is why I think doctors do this.
  18. How severe are the conditions? Have you had any proper diagnosis yet? Tried any acupuncture/therapy yet? Heading straight to doctors may mean they are going to recommend surgery almost instantly in Bangkok!
  19. Agreed that taking a nap is the best, but there are certain days/times that there wasnt time for one, hence the coffee...
  20. As terrible as this may sound, there are ways around insurance depending on what insurance you have. You'd have to speak to a good agent to be able to assist you with this. On another note, as I mentioned above, look into Chula options, it may be within your budget for surgery. And/or, non surgical methods, e.g. physiotherapy or the likes.
  21. Bangkok Expats would be a good start. Usually there are plenty of agents trolling that group that will activate themselves and PM you!
  22. Great health benefit - staying alert on the road! Avoiding accidents and saving lives! ????
  23. Have a look at thantakrit dental center on Phetchaburi road. Good english spoken dentists and I've had very good experiences there too. Again, much more affordable than the big hospitals!
  24. True, getting a surgery will probably cost a fortune without insurance, but I'd look into options of physiotherapy as well. I've had great success with my back pain working with Bangkok Physiotherapy Center on Sukhumvit 39. I went to them for 7 sessions I think it was, and I was quite happy with the results. Less pain, learnt different things I could do to manage the pain and also prevent the pain. Give them a shot before going through surgery. Also had a friend go in for knee pain with good results too, so they seem consistent. Surgery is truly opening up a can of worms and you don't know what you could get yourself into. If you still insist on surgery, try looking at Chula Hospital. The prices would be 1/3 to 1/4 of those at Samitivej/BNH/Bumrungrad and most of the doctors that come to Chula also service those major 3 hospitals. Don't expect a 5 star hospital, but again, you aren't paying a 5 star price for it. What you will get is an honest answer of whether surgery is needed or not, and if so, expect to pay a lot less for it (you may have to wait longer for a surgery though).
