46 minutes ago, Walker88 said:trump's defense seems focused on trump's First Amendment right to lie.
That means they will be admitting in court that trump lied and knew he lost the election to Biden.
I wonder if the cult will not only applaud the defense tactic where trump admits to lying and losing, but still believe he won?
When two polar opposite things are wholeheartedly embraced as factual, that is evidence of a cult.
We've already seen this absurdity in trump's earlier indictment over the stolen classified documents, where his followers believed BOTH that trump declassified in his mind (sic) and also that the FBI planted the docs.
Why would Trumps defence focus on First Amendment rights to lie? Surely that would not help his case to lie.
In Fact it was Jack Smith who said It was Trumps 1st amendment right to lie. Which is like saying what ever Trump says is a lie.
From the NYT
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/04/us/politics/trump-indictment-jack-smith-charges.html
At the same time, the indictment hints at how Mr. Smith is trying to sidestep legal pitfalls and potential defenses. He began with an unusual preamble that reads like an opening statement at trial, acknowledging that Mr. Trump had a right to challenge the election results in court and even to lie about them, but drawing a distinction with the defendant’s pursuit of “unlawful means of discounting legitimate votes and subverting the election results.”

Russians aren't subject to U.S. courts. Russian interference in U.S. elections favoring Trump is a FACT.
Russian Victor Bout. If memory serves, extradited from Thailand to USA for arms dealing. Later exchanged for a Trans athlete!

Using laws from 1870 sums up how weak, pathetic and political these charges are. Really nasty stuff from left to keep power.
Indeed.

I'd lay off the putting words into my mouth bit. A charge dating from times of slavery isn't necessarily about slavery. Slaves didn't commit insurrection that I'm aware of.
How that is putting words in your mouth, I have no idea. But hay if the cap fits wear it!
You are aware that the fraudulent charge against Trump, comes from a law dated 1870 used against the KKK. And had everything to do with how slaves could or could not be treated.

I didn't edit one word. The first sentence was my own.
So your post pre edit didn't say. Jack Smith said it was trumps first amendment right to lie? Or words to that effect. Knowing it would stop Trumps Lawyers from arguing amendment rights? It must have been another poster? lol

In specific terms. Smith chose not to charge Trump with inciting riot because discussion about first amendment rights would blur the waters and be harder to prove than the less spectacular charges that have been laid. Most of us won't be fooled by semantics, though, insurrection is what it was.
You edited that quite a bit? I think what you mean is, Smith knows he can't prove a case of Insurrection, but thinks he can on those other less than spectacular charges. Charges which seem more related to slavery and how slaves should be treated etc.

Pick me! Donald Trump. He's the only one who's been charged with trying to foment an insurrection.
Actually if you read the indictment. Trump hasn't actually been charged with insurrection in specific terms!

Biden Scores Higher Approval Abroad Than at Home
Majorities in all but one country included in a recent survey have a favorable opinion of the United States, according to the Pew Research Center.Which shows surveys like this are useless. Most of the world thinks Biden is a Joke and laugh at America.

Pick a side.
That isn't democracy, no matter how you try to make it seem so. The case is the Democrats against Trump.

No substance to any of it. Remember the 2016 Russians argument.
I agree. Jack Smith is using something like 60 lawyers and para legals to troll through all the evidence, and this is all they can come up with.

Great, then we don't have to worry. Trump will be found guilty and go to jail. Hurray!
And many of us think that since years - and he is still free and running for president.
Supposedly he could still run for president from prison. If he wins he can pardon himself.

My point is, if they had even one strong case that would put trump behind bars. they would go for that. But they obviously don't. So, they are trying to throw the book at him. Still a long way to go to prove any of it. But Trump haters will be Trump haters!

With so many charges laid against Trump it seems that maybe the prosecution aren't sure any of them will stick. The dems must be so desperate!

Or choose likeable Uncle Joe.
What you are witnessing is the death of democracy! Regardless of the target, you should be very worried about what is being done to Trump. I know you aren't, so I'll just say. by the looks of it, likeable uncle Joe has as much chance of going to jail as Trump has.
Or is it that one type of corruption is OK another not depending on your political leanings?

Changing target now....You talked about "spurious claims". Claims based on clear evidence are not " spurious" (ex the recording of Trump's "perfect phone call", the CCTV video in MAL, Trump's own statements).
So guilty until proven innocent for you.
