  1. You can go to a recording studio in Bangkok, but 20+ hours recording w/ a sound engineer seems overkill unless you consider yourself a good voice actor. I'd recommend looking on a freelance site like fiverr for voice over professional. They will know the format you need and most likely provide a more pleasing recording than you could do on your own. I'm sure they'd be willing to work with you on price due to the length of the recording, as most of them quote by the word or hour.
  2. haha got em bet op wont ever show themselves around these parts again after that sick burn
  3. kaidee is only available in thai, but you can right click in chrome and translate the site to english https://rod.kaidee.com/c11p16-auto-car/chonburi/p-2?price_end=120000&sort=latest
  4. Asean Now doesn't have to. They, just like most websites, have 3rd parties collecting and selling this data in exchange for services they provide. This website is loading scripts and cookies from facebook, google, microsoft, anymind, cloudflare. If they have an app, it may have scripts and cookies from these companies and/or other 3rd parties.
  5. I think the point of contention here is that you, like most people, don't understand that hacking isn't the primary concern. While it can obviously be a concern when it comes to access to your accounts or any confidential information contained in those accounts, the primary issue is with data being sold with nearly no ability to effectively regulate the sale. It only will only take one company/organization/person purchasing your "file" from any of the countless data brokers out there to make you reconsider what data is "worth" keeping private.
  6. From my experience they don't offer less than a 1 year initial term in Bangkok, but that could vary by area. I was in a tall condo in central Bangkok and got about 85 - 90% of the 1Gb/1Gb package I had. The limiting factor on your speed will likely come down the quality of the fiber risers in your building. In my case the installation tech had to spend a few hours working on the risers to get me to 90%. If you're only looking for 300Mb you should be fine. I also had the same issue with being too high for usable/reliable cellular service. Using AIS wifi calling over True fiber was hit and miss. Random disconnections and inability to make or receive calls. I often had to disable the wifi calling and just stand near the window or on the balcony to make a call on the cell network. Had a guest over who had DTAC I believe, and while I was getting 1/5 bars of service they had 4/5. It might be worth trying sims from other carriers first before committing to a 1 year term for fiber.
  7. Easier for the people gathering and selling your data + easier for you to give them your data. Win Win?
  8. I haven't found a reason to be concerned with contactless payments using Apple Pay (I wouldn't go near anything else) but I certainly have not, and will never, be adding a debit card as I never use "debit cards" as anything other than an ATM card. Credit card via Apply Pay is fast and secure.
  9. Do you or your clients have any b2b sites or services running there? I ask because they are notorious on the internet for ignoring reports of, or flat out allowing, botnets and scripts running on their network scanning for and exploiting everything under the sun. Their ASNs were blocked at the majority of places I've worked, and I heard the same from others in the industry. A review of some logs a couple of weeks ago showed about 40% of malicious traffic from non Russia/China/Korea IP space was coming out of DO.
  10. Went to the 3bb shop and was told I have to pay 1 year in advance due to being a foreigner. They did provide me, without asking, the 8% discount and waived installation fee, which I believe are both offered with the initial 1 year contract. After the year is up, the price goes up a bit, 150 - 200 I think, to the regular non-promotion price at which point they bill monthly. I'll be eligible to contact them for the 1 year contract pricing again, but no idea if they'll require the 1 year in advance at that point. It only makes sense that it wouldn't be required as the 5k baht installation fee waiver would already be accounted for upon completion of the initial 1 year contract, but I guess anything is possible. The service has been good, both TV and internet @ 1Gb/500Mb. My only gripe is with the equipment which is Wi-Fi 6 and not 6E. I called support to ask about Wi-Fi 6E options and was told they don't offer any. True provided me with Wi-Fi 6E equipment a year ago in Bangkok. Not a big deal as I need to purchase an access point for a better signal upstairs anyway, so I'll just get a second AP for use downstairs as well and disable the radios in the 3bb supplied GPON ONT router. 3bb customer support has been friendly/helpful during the 2 or 3 times I called, but don't expect advanced technical assistance from this first level support. They do offer to open a ticket when things get over their head and have the relevant team call you back.
  11. Thanks, that's good to know. I had True in BKK only needed customer support a couple of times to inform them and inquire about outages, which they were already aware of, and found them to be way more useful and productive than the support offered by ISPs back in the US. I was thrown a bit by 3bb when asking them about service at a different house I had looked at. They got back to me the next day, told me there was service available there, and that I would need to pay for 1 years worth of service in advance as I'm a foreigner. I told her that makes it sound as if their service is pretty bad, and they know it, and many people cancel their service because of it. I assume the real reason is many foreigners just bounce after a few months but it still left a bad taste in my mouth as I've never been asked to do this by True even with a 1 year contract.
  12. Moving into a house in East Pattaya and was wondering what my options would be for fiber internet. I was informed that I can order 3bb at the house. As I don't know the regulations on how FTTH infrastructure is built out in Thailand, can all carriers/ISPs use the underlying FTTH infrastructure allowing me to shop True, AIS, and 3bb, or does each ISP have their own dedicated fiber in the streets?
  13. Please forgive me. If I knew we had royalty here I would have put on some pants.
  14. With all of the vloggers/streamers around Pattaya I can't imagine the Navy is thrilled with the idea of a ton of sailors ending up on youtube, tiktok, instagram, facebook, etc., while do their thing in the bars here. On the other hand unemployment is extremely low in the US right now so perhaps recruitment numbers are down and this all for marketing purposes.
  15. Thanks for all of the recommendations and advice. Just arrived in town a couple of days ago and have been busy looking for a house. Will have to revisit this post once I'm settled in so I can actually focus on all the great info provided.
  16. Also with regards to "covering your tracks" when using a Thailand based computer through a VPN is latency. It's trivial via javascript to test the latency between your computer(browser) and the web server. The typical latency (ping) within the continental US would be sub 30ms. Your latency from Thailand would be over 200ms (round trip) and that is not something you can easily defeat. And a generic "VPN while banking" issue to add to the existing madness - one of my banks specifically asked me if I was using a VPN when speaking with the fraud department trying to clear some wire transfers to my Thai account I had placed online. This wasn't with a commercial VPN, but a VPN to my computer on a residential ISP. It probably threw them off that I was telling them I'm in Thailand while my website sessions from hours earlier were showing as coming from the US. Just another thing to keep in mind with regards to "fooling the banks"... at some point you may need to tell them you're actually in Thailand.
  17. Anyone have an idea what the we can expect the cost of tickets to be for such an event?
  18. The dongle connects to the router with a standard ethernet cable. The USB portion of the dongle plugs into a wall wart style power supply, similar to what you charge your phone with. I found the below video which may make it easier to understand. This looks like an amazing product for 99% of people as it removes the need to have a computer back home with a custom VPN solution running 24/7 like I currently have. The one caveat here, and which I didn't really see mentioned in this thread, is that you're still using your local computer/device to connect through the VPN to your home internet connection. These days, unless you take a lot of care, websites can see cookies, your local time and time zone, browser fingerprinting, etc., which give away who you are and where you are regardless of the VPN. For me, I log in to the small computer I have running 24/7 back home to do banking and anything else that is location sensitive and where the entity/company I'm connecting to has the resources and know how to see through 99% of the VPN-back-home-from-abroad crowd.
  19. I purchased the full season nfl gamepass when the season started, which while a bit pricey, I find worth it for the 40' replays and the ability to watch on my computer, apple tv, and phone. Since the season is basically over, for 99 cents you can purchase access for 31 days to watch the Super Bowl, both live and on-demand, and all of the regular season and playoff games in all formats (full game, 40' condensed full game, and 5' highlights). https://www.nflgamepass.com/en/subscribe/plans
  20. Thanks OMF. I've lived in Thailand for a while, both currently and previously, and have ridden bikes here on occasion. I'm well aware of the hazards and have seen my share of people laying in the road next to their bike with everyone blissfully walking past paying them no mind, and I may end up not even purchasing one if I don't feel confident after my lessons, but I hate driving cars in cities/traffic so much that I want to at least get some proper lessons and a license so the option to rent or purchase is always there.
  21. Looking to get a license and purchase a < 200cc bike, and besides having not ridden a bike in ages, I've never had proper lessons. Would appreciate recommendations or feedback (via PM is fine) on any of the local schools if you've attended their beginner classes.
  22. I couldn't tell you what the "best" is, but you'll find several universities in Bangkok with an international school offering English language degrees. I knew several foreign and Thai students enrolled in the Ramkhamhaeng international school English program and a few went on to top Thailand grad schools. Chulalongkorn and Kasetsart have international schools offering English degrees, but I don't know anyone who was enrolled in their undergrad programs.
  23. Can anyone who has applied for the LTR, or is otherwise aware, clarify something for me? My understanding is that you need to provide some sort of documentation showing that your employer outside of Thailand had income or profit of 10(?) million USD over the last year or two. Has anyone working for a private company applied for the LTR and been asked for such documents? I guess I'm not quite able to wrap my head around why they believe a private company would provide such information to a employee who has no need to know, let alone a foreign government.
  24. If the lack of decent houses for rent is anything to go by, I'd say more than a few long term residents have arrived in Pattaya over the past few months.
