With corruption all over, cheating taxi drivers, immigration red tape and harassment for retirees, bank hassles just to open a account and all the absurd residence certificate or translations they ask, all the TM20-30-50-90 xxx forms to fill...what confidence left for investors and wealthy retirees to come ? These people tell back home how the situation is and is deterrs their tourist families and friends from comming.

Try first to enforce the road laws and laws on car maintenance that kill far more people.

In other words those private security chaps at the metal detectors on the entrances of malls and other public spaces are just useless. Or do they only check foreigners and never check the Thai's ?

With all the immigration hassles for retirement visas, ltr visas, people are trying now to sell away their property and chose another country to spend the winter months.

If you can, next time chose another more friendly Asian nation like Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines or even India's southern beach areas. Far less immigration hassles and foreigners are better treated.

Very true in the facts of the OP. Despite what some caucasians try to claim, Thai's feel more comfortable say with indians then with some mouthy brit or yankee.

In Europe all Mercs and Audi are favorites of the Uber drivers or the local neighbourhood friendly drug peddlars. No more prestige in having such a brand.

Trying to get hold of those house developpers in Hua Hin and make them amend at their cost the awful flaws in building the pool villa in the developpment, that has issues and low quality materials. They claim all is fine but a 12 year old can see it is not. Werid reactions. Not to mention the manner which the developpment workers use your property as a dump yard when you are away and have no respect for other peoples private space. Complain and the only answer you will get is "ohhh this is Thailand" you know.

You seem to have time to loose and waste - good for you. A majority of other retirees expats do not want to be bothered with all the extra paperwork and business given to the new opportunities for crooked Thai accountants to file tax claims, tax information and get acces to the retiree's bank account. Many retirees are tax exempt in their home country on pensions that are paid abroad. Now they will have to pay in Thailand. Retirees come from places other then the US, Australia or NZ or UK you know. Pack up, try to sell, leave to another Asian Country and get a new wife in the Phillippines or Malaysia, Indonesia.... who treat foreigners better. Your cost of living will be divided by 2 Thailand does not want middle class foreigners any more apparently.

Social (wealth that is) equity can never be implemented. How else can the rich remain rich ? The collapse of communism did show the limits of any system of equity, where corruption and privileges where as present amongst the ruling. Socialism will shortly follow a collapse in the west with all the mistakes Europe is making on various issues.
