  1. We'll take it. At 5:07. Note that of all the expat buckets in Thailand, he only mentions Pattaya. Does Pattaya get enough attention by the Retire Abroad / Expatriation Encouragement Media relative to it's actually great advantages? I think it doesn't, and I think we all know why that is. The sex reputation thing. As if they don't have sex workers in Mexico City. Mexico City residents angered by influx of Americans speaking English, gentrifying area: report (nypost.com)
  2. Honest Indian appears to be regularly available now on the delivery apps. But wait. There is a problem. The menu is all vegetarian. I ordered an all veg meal from there and it was great, but I usually want some meat. Their tandoori chicken used to be particularly good. Weirdly even before they only had chicken, no lamb or fish. So unless they at least add chicken, on the hunt again for a most regular Indian place. Not sure I'm going to find that. As it stands I'm just mixing it up and not finding a holy grail.
  3. This is anecdotal but I think quite on point to this topic. There is an expat in Colombia that I've been in contact with for many years now. He fits the profile of the type of expat that I don't think can realistically repatriate now almost perfectly. Low social security check. About 1,200 a month and he doesn't pay for Part B. No savings or investments. He literally lives on his check in Colombia. If he needs a big purchase which for him might be a few hundred dollars up, he saves for it. His rent in Colombia is about 300 for very nice, modern, large places, in very desirable areas. Quite decent government supervised private health insurance costs him about 40 dollars a month. His politics are right wing. About four years ago he said something like, well I can always move back to the U.S. There are places in the U.S. where I can live a decent life on my income. Not the glamor places of course. My response was, yes, you can find such places but your quality of life is going to be radically degraded. Well, well, well, out of blue, without prompting, in response to inflation particularly housing inflation in the U.S. he said -- NO, moving back is impossible now. He wants to live in Colombia for the rest of his life. I hope he can do that. If he is pushed out of Colombia, he would be looking for a new Colombia, not the U.S.
  4. Again specific banking policies change and the real and definite trend is NOT accepting VOIP or google voice for security codes. You can hear about this issue online among U.S. expats globally. Sooner or later this issue is hitting most U.S. expats.
  5. Yes, this is sounding promising. Any comments on which is better, UltraMobile PAYG or T-Mobile MVNO?
  6. The trend and it is real is to require a U.S. mobile number in YOUR NAME. If people are still getting away with VOIP and voice for now, they are just lucky, for now. Future expats should get this sorted BEFORE they move abroad.
  7. Interesting. The compatible phone issue again. I don't have a home WIFI network. I was planning on setting up my primary mobile as a hotspot when I need 2FA and stick a SIM in an old phone. I suppose that would work with a preconfigured phone from the U.S. Don't know about shipping a new phone here as far as customs.
  8. I looked a bit at their website and this looks kind of problematic. Did you set this up first in the U.S.? They seem to only operate in a limited number of U.S. cities. I would want a phone number in a specific area code to match my U.S. address on record. Also the compatible phone thing is weird. They have number you can call from your phone to see if it's compatible. I assume that's a call from the U.S. Of course I want a SIM that will work on any unlocked phone that I might have in Thailand.
  9. I decided to let some of these suggestions collect before looking at them. Thank y'all so much for the different suggestions so far. Frankly, this entire topic makes my brain hurt. My confidence on the technical aspects of all this is low. As I suspected there isn't one clean and pat answer for this. I'm going to have to look into any and all promising suggestions and try to figure out how they might work for me.
  10. Of course even if he thinks it will, running for president won't shield him. only actually becoming president again would (God forbid). Trump's plan to escape prosecution by announcing 2024 run could backfire: legal expert - Raw Story - Celebrating 18 Years of Independent Journalism
  11. Yes the presidency would shield the traitor from prison so of course he's running and that's why he's running.
  12. Trump is running for president. He's totally on topic on a topic about Biden's poll numbers. Duh.
  13. Disliked by misogynists and Trumpists.
  14. He's definitely a contender. He has federal experience now and he's brilliant in debates and interviews. He's Midwestern. He offers a newer kind of politics that's kind of hard to pigeonhole and that's probably a good thing.
  15. That's ridiculous. Admit it You just hate democrats and would whine about however she handles this. Slava Ukraine! Independence for Taiwan!
  16. Not dictating jack sheet to our Nancy! You go girl!
  17. I love her for being a Baltimorean San Franciscan. I'm not really up on the ice cream situation or should I say Gelato?
  18. Yes she is going to Taiwan. Does anyone really think Xi is crazy enough to attack her? Pelosi. Balls of steel.
  19. Let me get this straight. You're suggesting the Trumpist republicans are the adults? Too funny!
