There is real estate and there is real estate. Contrary to popular belief, real estate is not always a good investment. It can indeed be financially ruinous. Case in point -- Florida Condos. Before moving to Thailand, I took a serious condo shopping trip to Ft. Lauderdale. This was decades back and even then I found the pricing on them kind of insane. But that was the tip of the iceberg compared to now. Sales price reasonable, but HOA fees outrageously high and imbalanced relative to sales price. In some cases even back then really weird, like a giveaway price of 60K but 800 a month HOA. At the time this was before the Florida condo insurance crisis caused by the big building collapse. So add HOA fee insanity to the insurance crisis plus ruinous special assessments and you're talking just walking away from the so called home you thought you owned. So overall something seemed wrong and it just didn't feel right. Especially for high rises condos there. There was one gated community rather far inland that was all single story attached units where the pricing to HOA fees were sane. I think I recall 175K sale and 300 HOA fairly normal. I came close to buying that. Not sure if that particular places would have turned out OK or not as not really any issue of building collapse there.

As said in my OP people have used many different words to describe Trump's particular flavor of American democracy destroying authoritarian ambitions. Here is an example of a word that can aptly be used to describe both Putin and Trump. KLEPTOCRATS. But both of them being kleptocrats are not JUST kleptocrats. That's the beauty part of using Putinization. It's not just one bad thing. It's a number of them that they BOTH share.

To be clear, yet again -- TRUMP LIED. He was very clear in his sleazy campaign that he would NOT cut Medicare. This big ugly bill does what? It cuts Medicare. An AUTOMATIC 4 percent every year of what is paid to providers. Dudes -- that is 40 percent over ten years! Do the flippin' math. So do you think these providers being paid MUCH LESS are going to be in any kind of position but to cut services to patients?!?

I don't think the soul free number crunchers have the capability at looking at the wider perspective. Take fine dining in Thailand for example. European where wine is so natural and even sometimes Thai. Such places generate revenue, taxes, and jobs for Thais. But consider the lost business of people just not going as often to such places BECAUSE the wine cost is so ridiculous it becomes a substandard experience if they cut out the wine or drink less of it, crappier quality, etc. Thaiiland sells itself internationally as one of the top foodie destinations in the world, especially Bangkok, and not only Thai food. Well, with wine priced as it is here, they are limiting themselves.
