I'm confused, USA is now a communist country?
WDSmart replied to bubblegum's topic in Political Soapbox
Translation - rich pay for most things. Poor steal from the rich. There are no rich and no poor. Everyone contributes the best they can. Some can contribute much more than others. Some cannot contribute anything, but all receive what they need as long as society has the means to provide that. Think of it like how a family works. -

Nobody works? Nobody works for a wage, for money. Everyone contributes to the society as best they can. -

Socialism is an economy in which everyone contributes according to their ability and receives what they need, as much as society can provide. Socialism is not, as most believe, a form of government. A socialist economy can exist under many forms of government, like a democracy, republic, or even a monarchy, but not a plutocracy. -
Oh, no! I'll be voting AGAINST Trump. I'd vote for anyone who runs against him. I like some parts of Thailand, but, of course, I'm not a citizen. I'm retired and don't have to worry about an income. I like living in the mountains here, playing golf twice a week, and taking care of the gardens and orchards around by house.

I don't entirely understand your post. I don't understand what law enforcement has to do with socialism. In pure socialism, there would be no unemployment because there would be no employment. Employment is a capitalistic feature. Maternity benefits are also a possible feature of employment under capitalism. In pure socialism, if someone is unable to work, they don't, but they still have access to all the state's resources they need. All citizens of Thailand have access to free (or very low-cost) medical benefits. That's what all the government hospitals are for. I judge Thaland's economy to be a mix of capitalism and socialism, a mix which is much farther left than the USA's economy. I do agree that Thailand's government is more right-wing than the USA's, but that could change next year if You-Know-Who gets elected. If that happens, I fear we (the USA) are headed towards an autocratic plutocracy (rule of the rich). -
Be sure to forward it to all your friends I didn't know I could do that. I do know the ballot has to be returned to the jurisdiction that sent it, so I doubt if anyone else, even if they were registered in CA, could use a copy of the one they sent me. I'll check on that, though. Thanks.

Thailand is right wing. Thailand's government is a mix of a monarchy and a republic. The republic also seems right-wing to me. Its economy, like the USA's, is a mix of capitalism and socialism, but in Thailand, there is much more socialism. -
I'm registered in California. I just checked yesterday, and they will send me my ballot by email. I do have to return the paper ballot by regular mail, but I'll go down to the post office in Phetchabun and send it the fastest way possible. I've voted that way before. You're fortunate to be able to put it into a Diplomatic Pouch.

No, the USA is not a communist country. Its economy is a combination of capitalism and socialism. The right-wingers want to move it more towards capitalism, and the left-wingers (like me) want to move it more towards socialism. -
I've always been sorry to hear about the way the "royal" family treated her. I hope they will change their ways.

I'm surprised but very excited about Harris's pick of Tim Waltz as her VP. The more I hear about and from him, the more I like him. I'll defintiely be voting for them.

Sorry to hear this. I hope the US far left will expand over time, and eventually, we'll have an economy that supports all the people, not just the rich.

JK Rowling Supports Legal Fight Against Workplace Gender Police
WDSmart replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I would support a rule (USA/International?) that clearly identifies what characteristics are used to classify someone as a "man" or "woman" and then allows the individual to compete only with their classified gender. I'm not so demanding about this when it concerns the use of public facilities, like public restrooms. -

But there are also international laws (agreements) concerning how "war" prisoners are treated. This account does not comply with all of those. -

Why? Why? Because that's the way the legal system is supposed to work here in the USA. Everyone should be assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. However, suspects can be detained while awaiting trial, but even that has to be done with a court's approval. I'm not a lawyer, but that's my understanding of the basics of the law.- 24 replies

Passengers trapped on ‘sauna’ jet on London to Bangkok flight (video)
WDSmart replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There seems to be more and more problems with airplanes these days. I wonder if that's because there are more flights now than there used to be, or if the planes are not being maintained (and maybe even manufactured) well. -

All those charged with a crime should be tried and, if convicted, sentenced. There should be no "dark sites" like these.- 24 replies

From what I read earlier, this woman's birth certificate shows her as a female, and she has female genitalia. However, it was reported she has XY chromosomes, which is probably why she looks masculine and has a masculine physique and strength. The question for me is, what characteristics are used to determine gender? There are several sets of them, and sometimes these sets show mixed results. What then?

JK Rowling Supports Legal Fight Against Workplace Gender Police
WDSmart replied to Social Media's topic in World News
All of these problems concerning discrimination against trans people are equivalent to racism. Hopefully, and although the discriminatory feelings will probably never die out, just like racism, the laws will enforce equality for everyone regardless of their gender or their expression of their belief in their gender. -
I'm drinking the same thing as you, and for the same reason - I'm thirsty. And that happens to both White and Black people and men and women - to all races and all genders. The question is not why "society should twist itself in knots to accommodate people who just 'think' they are the sex opposite their birth gender." The question is, "Why does society discriminate against people based on their birth gender?" Why do we treat the two genders (or multiple mixes of genders) differently? Why not treat all people the same?
