British Teacher Assaulted by Phuket Tailor in Front of Her Children
WDSmart replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
I would like to know what your definition of "gaol" is. If you don't want to (or can't) define it, at least let me know if the definitions I found online are compatible with your definition. -

This is the best site I found which promises to tell the difference between "jail" and "gaol," but I didn't see any difference cited in it. Difference Between Jail and Gaol | Difference Between Please tell me what you think is the difference between those two terms. Thanks... -

The way I, and most of the English-speaking world, now spell it is "jailed." -

Going to taylor's shop and starting arguing "in front of her children"?! What sort of mother will allow that to happen? I guess she was slightly pissed? Actually, when I asked that question, I meant is it worse for the tailor because the assault was "in front of her children." But I also agree with what you are saying. -

Does "in front of her children" increase the severity of this incident? -

I had to look up the word "gaoled." I've never seen that word spelled that way before. -

What do you think of women with tattoos?
WDSmart replied to MalcolmB's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I have a very low opinion of both women and men with tattoos. The larger and more flamboyant the tattoo, the lower my opinion. -

Julian Assange: Free-Speech Crusader or Threat to the West?
WDSmart replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Much of his success with Bitcoin was due to his publishing of these documents. I'm just saying he made money doing so. I'm not saying that was his only or even primary motive for doing this. Anyway, he's now admitted to his crime and is a convicted felon. I don't know what's happened to all his money, but i did see he asked for donations to help him charter the private flight back to Australia. I hope we don't ever hear any more about him. -
When you say "many of the expats I've come across in Thailand," do you mean those you've actually met and interacted with or those you've only read about? The reason I ask is, I've only met and interacted with a very few expats as those you describe. Those kinds of expats, however, are the ones I read about on AseanNews Forums and other news media. I think they make up a very small percentage of expats living in Thailand. Of course, I don't live in or visit Bangkok or any other large city very often. And I also don't hang around taverns or seek out prostitutes. I think that also is a large part of this problem you are describing.

I played golf this morning, so I missed the live debate. I did get home in time to see a replay of the last half. I was very disappointed with President Biden's demeanour during the debate. He seemed to be just what everyone feared he'd be - too old to be the next president. Trump was just as I expected - lie after lie after lie. He's too narcissistic and dishonest to be the next president. I'm a far-left liberal and intend to vote for the Democrat nominee. I hope the Democrats think more about this and can come up with a nominee for whom I can be more confident. Pete Buttigieg would be my choice, but he has an obvious trait that would be very difficult for many US voters to accept. So, just who could replace Biden is definitely up in the air, but I wholeheartedly believe it must be considered carefully.
