The way I, and most of the English-speaking world, now spell it is "jailed."

The reason I ask is, I've only met and interacted with a very few expats as those you describe. Those kinds of expats, however, are the ones I read about on AseanNews Forums and other news media. I think they make up a very small percentage of expats living in Thailand. Of course, I don't live in or visit Bangkok or any other large city very often. And I also don't hang around taverns or seek out prostitutes. I think that also is a large part of this problem you are describing.

My vote will not actually be FOR someone but AGAINST Trump. That's why I will vote for whomever the Democrats nominate. In the US, there are only two parties to choose from in the presidential election. Other parties do have some chance in lower-level, more regional elections.

I played golf this morning, so I missed the live debate. I did get home in time to see a replay of the last half. I was very disappointed with President Biden's demeanour during the debate. He seemed to be just what everyone feared he'd be - too old to be the next president. Trump was just as I expected - lie after lie after lie. He's too narcissistic and dishonest to be the next president. I'm a far-left liberal and intend to vote for the Democrat nominee. I hope the Democrats think more about this and can come up with a nominee for whom I can be more confident. Pete Buttigieg would be my choice, but he has an obvious trait that would be very difficult for many US voters to accept. So, just who could replace Biden is definitely up in the air, but I wholeheartedly believe it must be considered carefully.
