Picture from responders. A 51-year-old man, suspected to be heavily intoxicated after Chinese New Year celebrations, crashed his off-road pickup truck into a restaurant in Si Racha, Chonburi, after smashing through a power pole, causing extensive damage. The incident occurred at approximately 00:30 on January 29, near the entrance to Khao Din Wanaram Temple in Nong Kham subdistrict. Police from Nong Kham Station, led by Investigating Officer Pol. Lt. Nopadon Wandi, rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the crash. Upon arrival, officers found a white Toyota pickup truck, registered in Chonburi, severely damaged after colliding with a power pole, splitting it in two. The vehicle then crashed into the Baan Tua Note restaurant, destroying potted plants and a snooker table. The truck’s front end was completely wrecked, with its rear axle broken. Authorities promptly coordinated with the Provincial Electricity Authority to cut power in the area to prevent further hazards. The driver, identified as Mr. Santi, 51, sustained injuries and was found to be heavily intoxicated. Rescue workers from the Pure Yeang Tai Si Racha Foundation provided first aid before transporting him to hospital for treatment. Initial investigations suggest that Mr. Santi had been drinking heavily in celebration of Chinese New Year before driving at high speed. The crash occurred at a curve in the road, causing him to lose control and crash. Police have charged him with reckless driving, causing property damage. Further legal proceedings, including negotiations for compensation to the Provincial Electricity Authority and the restaurant owner, will take place once he has recovered. -- 2025-01-30

Pictures from responders. A 21-year-old woman was dramatically rescued from a suicide attempt in her car after being discovered by a food delivery rider on the evening of January 28. At approximately 18:00 Surin Rescue Association received a report of a grey Honda Jazz parked on the roadside of the Surin- Sikhonphum highway, opposite the entrance to the National Housing Authority Village in Salak Dai sub-district, Mueang Surin. The vehicle had reportedly been stationary since 10:00 raising concerns. Emergency responders arrived to find the woman unconscious but still alive, inside a locked car. She had attempted to take her own life by lighting charcoal inside a pan, filling the vehicle with toxic fumes. The woman was covered in sweat, weak, and disoriented. She was swiftly removed from the vehicle and transported to Surin Hospital for urgent medical attention. The woman, identified only as Ms A, is a resident of Kap Choeng district, Surin. Inside the car, rescue workers discovered a handwritten farewell letter addressed to whoever found her body. It included instructions regarding her wish to donate her body to a hospital in Bangkok, along with a donor card. Part of the letter read: "To the person who finds this body, I have already taken my last breath. I have decided to donate my body (as per the attached card). Please inform my family about my donation. Thank you sincerely to everyone who has helped me." Another section of the note expressed her emotional struggles: "I am not sad. I am just exhausted from growing up, from a society that constantly demands competition and survival. I have felt this way since childhood. I never cared about staying alive. Whenever death comes, I will not resist it. P.S. I am not leaving in sorrow. I feel at peace. The world will keep turning-I just got tired of fighting, so I left early." A member of Surin Rescue Association explained that the report was made by a food delivery rider who had noticed the car parked in the same spot for hours. When rescue workers arrived, they found the woman barely responsive, drenched in sweat, and struggling to speak coherently. It is suspected she may have taken sleeping pills before attempting to end her life. Authorities managed to retrieve her mobile phone and contact her family. Her condition remains under medical supervision at Surin Hospital. The exact reasons behind her actions remain unclear. However, authorities have handed over the farewell letter and donor card to emergency hospital staff for further handling. If you or anyone you know is in emotional distress, please contact the Samaritans of Thailand 24-hour hotline: 02 713 6791 (English), 02 713 6793 (Thai) or the Thai Mental Health Hotline at 1323 (Thai). Please also contact your friends or relatives at this time if you have feelings of loneliness, stress or depression. Seek out help. -- 2025-01-30

Picture from responders. An incident occurred at a red-light junction in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan, on the evening of 28 January, when a 38-year-old woman was fatally crushed by an articulated container truck. Police and emergency services were alerted to the incident at approximately 20:00. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a Honda Click 125 motorbike trapped beneath the front of a Hino container truck. The victim, identified as Ms Chutinan, was found lifeless beneath the vehicle's front left wheel, her body severely crushed. Blood was seen pooling on the road, and her black full-face helmet remained intact. The driver of the truck, 31-year-old Mr Anuwat, told police that he was travelling from Bang Pu and intended to turn right towards Bang Bo. He claimed he had not seen the motorbike and only realised something was wrong when he heard a loud crash. By the time he applied the brakes, the truck had dragged the motorbike some distance. A witness, an 18-year-old man returning from a football game, reported seeing the victim's motorbike waiting at the junction near the traffic light pole. As the lights changed from green to amber, the container truck approached to turn right. The victim's motorbike, apparently intending to go straight but positioned in the right-turn lane, moved forward at the same moment. This resulted in the collision, with the truck dragging the motorbike more than 50 metres before coming to a stop. Authorities from Bang Phli Police Station are reviewing CCTV footage to establish the exact sequence of events. Mr Anuwat has been taken in for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation, with legal proceedings expected to follow. The victim's body was taken to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital. -- 2025-01-30

Picture from responders. A large fire broke out at a plastic and rubber warehouse in Ban Phaeo District, Samut Sakhon, on the morning of January 29, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Firefighters battled all day to bring the blaze under control. The fire, which started at approximately 10:55 engulfed the Maha Chok Mahachai Trading Company’s storage facility in Moo 6, Yok Krabat Subdistrict. The warehouse contained plastic waste, rubber materials, and scrap metal for recycling, all of which served as fuel for the rapidly spreading flames. Fire crews from multiple districts, along with emergency volunteers, were deployed to the site. The Samut Sakhon Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office reported that the inferno had already caused two of the eight storage buildings to collapse, prompting authorities to restrict access to the area for safety reasons. Provincial Governor Nirut Niramaiwong arrived at the scene alongside local officials, including the district chief and industrial regulators, during the afternoon, to coordinate response efforts. Despite intensive firefighting operations, the blaze remained difficult to contain due to the highly flammable materials inside the facility and burnt throughout the night. There have been no reports of casualties or injuries. Authorities are continuing efforts to prevent the fire from spreading further, and an investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway. -- 2025-01-30

Picture from responders. A collision on Jomtien Second Road in Pattaya has left one Russian tourist dead and two others seriously injured after a high-speed motorcycle collision late night. The crash occurred at approximately 23:30 on 29 January in front of the Atlantis Condo Resort, when a foreign motorcyclist, riding a KTM big bike, struck a Russian couple crossing the road hand-in-hand. The force of the impact sent both pedestrians flying, leaving one dead and the other critically injured. Emergency responders from Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation arrived at the scene to find the motorcycle damaged and three people injured: Artem Avdeev, 26, the rider of the big bike, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. His nationality has not yet been confirmed. Zhanna Dzurova, 44, a Russian tourist, sustained severe leg injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment. Her husband, whose identity has yet to be confirmed, was critically injured. Despite CPR efforts by paramedics, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after the collision at the scene. A witness, 34-year-old Arkhadej, stated that he had stopped his vehicle to allow the couple to cross the road when the speeding motorcycle approached from behind and struck them. “I saw the couple crossing, so I stopped. Suddenly, I heard the sound of the bike coming at high speed, and in an instant, it hit them. The impact sent them flying in different directions,” he told police. Police from Pattaya City’s Dongtan substation are now reviewing CCTV footage and gathering evidence to determine whether excessive speed or other factors contributed to the crash. The motorcycle has been impounded as part of the investigation. -- 2025-01-30

Picture from responders. A heavily intoxicated driver lost control of his SUV and crashed into a parked pickup truck in the early hours of the morning of January 29, causing his vehicle to overturn and leaving three people injured. At approximately 04:45, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Centre received a report of a road crash involving an SUV that had lost control and flipped over after colliding with a parked vehicle. The incident occurred in front of a spirit house shop in Moo 8, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Rescue teams, along with police investigator Pol. Lt. Manot Thipwet from Bang Lamung Police Station, rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, emergency responders found a white Mitsubishi Pajero SUV with Bangkok registration number, overturned on its side. The vehicle had crashed into a parked bronze Toyota Vigo pickup truck, registered from Bangkok, which was damaged and had been pushed over 10 metres from its original position. Authorities immediately secured the area and prevented bystanders from approaching due to a fuel leak, which posed a fire hazard. Inside the SUV, three individuals were trapped in the wreckage. Rescue personnel used hydraulic cutting equipment to extricate them safely. The driver, identified as Mr Natthawut, 24, was found to be heavily intoxicated. One of his passengers, Ms Wisuda, 20, suffered a fractured right leg and multiple abrasions, while another passenger, Ms Kanokwan, 20, sustained a head wound and bruises. All three were given first aid at the scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment. Ms Kanokwan later stated that they had been drinking at a bar in Pattaya and were on their way back to Laem Chabang when the collision occurred. However, she was unable to recall the moment of the crash. The driver, Mr Natthawut, was too intoxicated to provide any coherent statement and was reportedly vomiting frequently. Meanwhile, the owner of the pickup truck stated that he had parked his vehicle by the roadside and was unaware of how the crash had happened. Authorities have transferred all injured parties to hospital and will conduct a blood alcohol test on Mr Natthawut as part of legal proceedings against him, as the investigation continues. -- 2025-01-29

Thai-Irish Couple Reports Swiss Man Following Restaurant Confrontation Pictures courtesy of Khoasod A Thai-Irish couple has lodged a complaint on January 28, with Bang Saphan Police Station in Prachuap Khiri Khan following an alleged verbal assault by a Swiss national at a local restaurant. Full story:https://aseannow.com/topic/1350172-thai-irish-couple-reports-swiss-man-following-restaurant-confrontation/ -
Pictures courtesy of Khoasod A Thai-Irish couple has lodged a complaint on January 28, with Bang Saphan Police Station in Prachuap Khiri Khan following an alleged verbal assault by a Swiss national at a local restaurant. Mrs Panicha, 55, and her Irish husband, 71, who reside in Moo 1, Phong Prasat Subdistrict, reported the incident, which they believe is linked to an ongoing dispute over unleashed dogs on a local beach. According to the Irish husband, the altercation took place on 24 January at approximately 19:30 while they were dining with friends. Mr Mathias, a Swiss national, allegedly approached their table and verbally abused them twice in an aggressive manner. The situation escalated, requiring restaurant staff to intervene. Fearing for their safety, the couple decided to file a police report. The couple believes the confrontation was provoked by their recent complaint to the Phong Prasat Subdistrict Administrative Organisation regarding Mr Mathias’s repeated failure to keep his dogs on a lead while on Ban Suan Luang Beach. Local residents and tourists had expressed concerns over safety, as the Swiss man’s dogs had previously chased and intimidated beachgoers. Despite municipal orders prohibiting dogs on the beach, the issue reportedly persisted. CCTV footage from the restaurant captured the moment Mr Mathias approached and confronted the Irish man, adding to concerns over his behaviour. Police Lieutenant Ek-in Sonpromhom, the investigating officer, has assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and legal action will be taken as necessary. The dispute between the Swiss man and the local community dates back to last year when several individuals were reportedly chased or bitten by dogs on the beach. The situation significantly impacted local tourism, with visitors avoiding Suan Luang Beach due to safety concerns. As a result, local authorities intervened, and the Pong Prasat SAO issued an order for Mr Mathias to remove his dogs from the area while a legal resolution was sought. However, Mr Mathias’s lawyer has since filed an appeal to contest this decision. The case is currently under police investigation. Picture from responders. An incident at a six-storey dormitory block in the Krathum Baen district of Samut Sakhon has left one teenage girl dead and another critically injured after falling from the third floor. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred on 28 January. At around 17:00 Pol Lt. Thiwatphon Thawitsangsak, Deputy Inspector of Krathum Baen Police Station, received a report of two young women who had fallen from a dormitory building located in Khlong Maduea. Emergency medical teams from Krathum Baen Hospital and Vichaivej Omnoi Hospital, along with rescue workers, were dispatched to the scene. The incident took place at the back of the dormitory. The two girls, both teenagers, were found lying face down, unresponsive, and covered in blood. They had suffered severe injuries, including head trauma. One of the victims, referred to only as “B” 17, was declared dead at the scene after her vital signs could not be detected. The other girl, referred to as “A”, was rushed to Krathum Baen Hospital in critical condition and remains in the ICU. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a heated argument near the fire escape on the third floor shortly before the incident. A loud scream followed by two distinct thuds was heard, prompting neighbours to rush outside. “I was sitting inside my house, about 10–20 metres away, when I heard shouting from the fire escape. Moments later, I heard two loud bangs, like something hitting the ground, followed by another scream. When I went outside, I saw the two girls lying motionless in a pool of blood,” said one resident. Another dormitory resident stated that the fire escape door, which is usually kept closed but unlocked, was slightly ajar after the fall. “I ran to look down and saw them lying there. It was shocking. I called the police immediately,” they added. “A,” the critically injured girl, had recently moved into the dormitory with her mother around two months ago. Her mother reportedly works long hours, leaving “A” alone at home most of the time. Neighbours believe she is still a student, as she was often seen in a school uniform. “B,” the deceased, was a friend of “A” and frequently visited her at the dormitory. Neighbours remarked that the two appeared to have a good relationship and were never seen arguing before the incident. Police are still piecing together what led to the girls’ fall. Initial investigations revealed that the dormitory’s CCTV cameras did not capture the exact moment of the incident. Officers are awaiting statements from the victims’ families to shed light on the events leading up to the tragedy. The body of “B” has been sent to the Siriraj Hospital Forensic Institute for an autopsy before being returned to her family. Meanwhile, “A” remains under close medical supervision in the ICU. Authorities have yet to determine whether the fall was accidental, intentional, or the result of foul play. The investigation continues as the community mourns the loss of one young life and hopes for the recovery of the other. -- 2025-01-29

Vietnamese Man Arrested for Cannabis Cultivation in BangkoK Picture courtesy of Khoasod A Vietnamese national has been arrested for illegally cultivating cannabis in a commercial building that had been converted into a full-scale cannabis production facility in Bangkok’s Lak Si district. Picture courtesy of Khoasod A Vietnamese national has been arrested for illegally cultivating cannabis in a commercial building that had been converted into a full-scale cannabis production facility in Bangkok’s Lak Si district. Authorities reported that the operation caused significant odour and disturbance to the local community. On 28 January, Pol. Maj. Gen. Prasat Khemaprasit, Chief of Immigration Division 1, along with senior immigration and local police officers, conducted a raid on a commercial building in Ngamwongwan Soi 32, following reports of suspicious activity and complaints from residents. After obtaining a search warrant from the Criminal Court, officers, in coordination with Prachachuen Police Station and the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine, searched a four-storey commercial building (No. 55/83-85). The investigation revealed that the building had been modified extensively. The first floor served as storage for fertiliser and as a living area for workers, accommodating 6–7 individuals. The second to fourth floors were equipped with advanced cultivation systems, including air conditioning, fans, irrigation, and lighting to grow cannabis plants. Authorities arrested a Vietnamese man identified as Mr Nguyen Ngoc, who admitted to overseeing the cultivation for approximately four months. He claimed to have been hired by a Thai employer, referred to as “Mr Ton” (full name unknown), earning 20,000 baht per month. The raid uncovered significant evidence, including: • One bag of dried cannabis flowers. • 242 cannabis plants with flowers already harvested. • 232 cannabis plants without flowers. • 455 cannabis seedlings. Mr Nguyen was charged with: 1. Working without a permit, under the Royal Decree on the Management of Foreign Workers. 2. Selling or processing controlled herbs (cannabis) for trade without a licence, under the Protection and Promotion of Thai Traditional Knowledge Act. The building lacked a licence to cultivate cannabis from the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine. The operator of the building and workers face potential penalties, including up to one year in prison, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both. Officials warned that any attempt to export processed cannabis could result in additional charges. Entrepreneurs seeking to cultivate cannabis, especially for commercial purposes, must register with the appropriate government authorities. Licensing fees are minimal, and compliance ensures proper control of cannabis distribution, preventing sales to minors and reducing social issues. The authorities emphasised the importance of legal compliance to regulate cannabis cultivation and prevent illicit activities. -- 2025-01-29

Picture from responders. Two men were killed in a crash early morning on 28 January, when their pick-up truck collided with a trailer truck and crashed into a concrete barrier along Highway 9 in the Khu Bang Luang Subdistrict, Lat Lum Kaeo District. At around 01:40 Pol. Lt. Ratchaphon Boonwichian, an investigator from Khu Bang Luang Police Station, received reports of the crash and responded to the scene with traffic police and rescue volunteers, with hydraulic cutting equipment. The crash occurred approximately 500 metres past the Lat Lum Kaeo weighbridge in the direction of Bang Bua Thong. Authorities found a grey Toyota Vigo pick-up truck (registration from Bangkok) with a rear metal cage that had detached upon impact. The vehicle was completely destroyed, its front end crushed against a concrete barrier. Inside the wreckage, rescue workers discovered two fatalities. Using cutting equipment, they retrieved the body of the passenger first, identified as Mr. Rachit Pholsongkhram, 54, a resident of Nong Nam Sai Subdistrict, Ban Phai District, Khon Kaen Province. The driver, Mr. Somboon Boonpok, 48, from Nong Bua Subdistrict, Tha Tum District, Surin Province, was also removed and pronounced dead at the scene. Approximately 200 metres away, police found a 22-wheeled Hino trailer truck (registration from Bangkok) parked on the left-hand lane. The vehicle bore damage near the right front wheel. The driver, Mr. Peeraphon Pothisan, 32, from Sisaket Province, was waiting to provide his statement. Mr. Peeraphon explained that he was transporting goods from Saraburi to Klong Toey Port, driving in the middle lane, when the pick-up truck suddenly veered across into his lane and collided with the right side of his vehicle. The impact caused the pick-up to spin and crash into the concrete barrier. He pulled over to assist, only to discover the two victims trapped inside the wreckage. Relatives of the deceased, travelling in a convoy of 4 vehicles, soon arrived at the scene. Mr. Worawit Pholsongkhram, 29, said the group was travelling from Nakhon Ratchasima to a residence in Thakham. His father, Rachit, had been riding with his uncle, Somboon, in the pick-up truck. He was following behind when the crash occurred and found both men dead upon arrival. Police suspect that the driver of the pick-up truck may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Authorities have documented the scene and will conduct further investigations to confirm the exact cause of the incident. The bodies were transported to Lat Lum Kaeo Hospital, where relatives will arrange for funeral rites. -- 2025-01-29

UPDATE Man Jailed for Killing Siberian Husky Over Chicken Incident A man has been sentenced to two months in prison for fatally beating a three-year-old Siberian Husky named Lucky, belonging to a neighbour, before discarding the dog's body into the sea. Picture from CCTV. A man has been sentenced to two months in prison for fatally beating a three-year-old Siberian Husky named Lucky, belonging to a neighbour, before discarding the dog's body into the sea. The incident occurred after the dog allegedly attacked the man's chickens. On 28 January, the Songkhla Provincial Court delivered its verdict in a case brought by the public prosecutor. The defendant, Mr Boonlert, was charged with animal cruelty under the Prevention of Cruelty and Animal Welfare Act 2014, as well as causing property damage under the Criminal Code. The incident dates back to 6 December 2024, when Lucky, a female Husky, reportedly wandered into Mr Boonlert's property and killed several of his chickens. Enraged, he used a wooden stick to strike the dog repeatedly, killing it on the street, before throwing its body into the sea. During the trial, Mr Boonlert pleaded guilty to all charges. The court found him guilty of causing property damage under Section 358 of the Criminal Code, which carried the harshest penalty among the charges. The original sentence of four months' imprisonment was reduced by half to two months due to the defendant's confession, which was considered a mitigating factor under Section 78 of the Criminal Code. The court reviewed a probation officer's report on Mr Boonlert and determined there were no grounds to suspend the sentence. As a result, the defendant was ordered to serve two months in prison. It was reported that Mr Boonlert did not apply for bail or submit any assets to secure his release pending appeal.
