A tense situation unfolded as a 14-year-old boy, distressed by being labelled a “problem child” by his parents, was rescued in a dramatic intervention by local emergency and rescue teams, after climbing onto the roof and threatening to jump. The incident occurred at a dormitory apartment in Nong Mai Daeng, Mueang District, Chonburi. Municipal emergency personnel and the Tri Khunatham Rescue Unit rushed to the scene, successfully intervening and preventing a tragedy. The boy, who was reportedly overwhelmed with stress, was taken to Chonburi Hospital for evaluation to determine whether he was experiencing mental health issues or severe emotional distress. Authorities plan to contact his family to ensure he receives proper care and support. Mr. Athipabodee Khaya, 22, a neighbour, revealed that the boy had mentioned feeling like a burden due to his parents’ harsh words. Before the incident, the boy left his phone with Mr. Khaya, asking him to answer any incoming calls, and expressed his intention to jump from the building. Alarmed, Mr. Khaya alerted friends and contacted rescue teams for help. “I didn’t know what issues he was facing before, as he recently moved into this dormitory,” Mr. Khaya added. Emergency personnel are urging families to pay attention to their children’s emotional wellbeing and to seek help when needed. -- 2025-01-27

  4. Picture from responders. A road crash occurred in Chonburi when thick PM 2.5 haze caused a 23-year-old pickup truck driver to lose control and crash into a tree. The collision happened on January 26, on a curve along the Ang Kraphong route in Moo 3, Kasetsuwan Subdistrict, Bo Thong District. Emergency responders from Sawanghet Ban Thung Hiang Rescue Unit rushed to the scene following reports of a collision with the driver trapped inside the wreckage. Upon arrival, they found a white Toyota pickup truck severely damaged. The driver, identified as Mr. Songwut, was critically injured, unconscious, and suffering multiple injuries. Rescue teams used hydraulic equipment to free him from the vehicle before transporting him to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. Local residents reported that the site is a known dangerous curve and, at the time, was heavily obscured by thick PM 2.5 haze, which severely reduced visibility. They believe the driver, unfamiliar with the area, failed to notice the curve and lost control, leading to the crash. In a twist, Mr. Sano, the victim's father, who had been driving another vehicle some distance behind his son, arrived at the scene and was shocked to discover that the person being rescued was his own child. "We were driving from Chanthaburi to collect durians for sale, but we were in separate vehicles. My son was ahead of me. When I arrived at the scene and saw the rescue teams assisting a white pickup truck, I stopped to check and realised it was my son," said the distressed father. The accident highlights the dangers posed by poor visibility due to PM 2.5 haze, which continues to impact various areas of Thailand. Local authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially on unfamiliar roads. -- 2025-01-27

  6. Picture courtesy of NRECD. Authorities in Chachoengsao raided a factory storing electronic waste contaminated with heavy metals, seizing over 10 tonnes of hazardous materials. Two Chinese nationals were arrested for possession of dangerous substances without proper authorisation. Police Colonel Arun Wachirasrisukanya, Deputy Commander of the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division (NRECD), along with Police Colonel Winyu Jaemsai, Superintendent of Division 2, and officials from the Department of Industrial Works, conducted the operation in Moo 9, Ko Khanun Subdistrict, Phanom Sarakham District. Initial investigations revealed 0.5 tonnes of shredded electronic waste contaminated with heavy metals, an additional 1 tonne of heavy metal-contaminated products, and 10 tonnes of separated hazardous waste. These items were seized as evidence. Authorities linked the incident to an earlier Customs Department operation, which intercepted 10 containers illegally imported into Thailand. Declared under false documentation, the 256 tonnes of electronic waste were smuggled in by a company operating in Phanom Sarakham District. Further investigations revealed a similar case on 5 January 2025, when a factory in Sri Maha Phot District, Prachinburi Province, was shut down by the Department of Industrial Works. That facility was found to have relocated its previously seized electronic waste to the Chachoengsao factory. At the scene, police identified Mr Li, 55, a Chinese national and factory manager, and Mr Guo, 43, also a Chinese national and the owner of the hazardous materials. Neither had the necessary permits to store such substances. Both men were arrested for “joint possession of Category 3 hazardous substances without authorisation.” During questioning, the suspects admitted to the charges and were subsequently handed over to the Phanom Sarakham Police Station for further legal proceedings. -- 2025-01-27

  8. Picture from responders. A crash on 26 January on the Dan Sai-Khok Ngam road in Khok Ngam Subdistrict, Loei Province, left one man dead and two others injured after a cake vendor's pickup truck veered across the lane and collided head-on with a pickup transporting oranges. The collision occurred at around 20:20. Pol. Lt. Sorasit Suwannakot, investigator at Khok Ngam Police Station, was informed of the collision and coordinated with medical staff from Dan Sai Crown Prince Hospital and rescue teams from Sawang Keeree Tham and Sajja Maitree Rescue Units. Hydraulic equipment was deployed to extricate the victims. At the scene, a white Isuzu pickup truck registered in Sakon Nakhon, fully loaded with oranges, was found overturned with damage to its front-right side. Two men inside, aged approximately 30-45, were injured and trapped in the vehicle. Rescuers managed to extract them and rush them to Dan Sai Crown Prince Hospital. About 100 metres away, a silver Toyota Vigo pickup truck registered in Bangkok was found with its front completely wrecked. The driver, identified as Mr. Chetta aged 52, from Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani, was found deceased inside. Rescue teams had to use hydraulic tools to remove his body, which was later sent to Dan Sai Crown Prince Hospital. Initial investigations revealed that the deceased, who sold cakes at the Khlong Thom Market, was driving home to Dan Sai District. Upon descending a hill near Ban Huai Tad, he lost control of his pickup, crossed into the opposite lane and collided with the orange delivery truck traveling in the opposite direction. Authorities are examining the scene and collecting evidence to determine the exact cause of the crash, and legal proceedings are underway. -- 2025-01-27

  12. Picture from responders. A distraught woman was saved on January 26, from jumping off a pedestrian bridge in Suwannaphum District after an emotional fallout with her husband left her in despair. The incident occurred at 17:00 on Arun Prasert Road near Suwannaphum Pittayapaisan School, . Roi Et. Pol. Lt. Chan Kongtham, Deputy Inspector of Suwannaphum Police Station, was alerted by a passerby who spotted a woman crying uncontrollably on the outside of the bridge railing. Rescue volunteers from the Hook 31 Foundation quickly joined the police at the scene. Upon arrival, officers found the woman, described as heavily built, gripping the outside railing of the bridge, sobbing heavily. Police and rescue personnel attempted to calm her down. While she was momentarily distracted, they managed to pull her to safety using a safety rope to secure her waist. The woman, identified as "Bee" , was too emotional to provide much details, only weeping during questioning. A local tuk-tuk driver, Mr. Chonlong, shed light on the situation. He revealed that Bee had been searching for her husband, a fellow tuk-tuk driver based at the Suwannaphum bus terminal. She had been looking for him since the previous day and discovered his vehicle parked at Suwannaphum Hospital earlier that day, but her husband was nowhere to be found. Mr. Chonlong added that Bee had argued with her husband prior to his disappearance, even physically assaulting him, leaving visible bruises. Frustrated and hurt, her husband reportedly left home, telling others he was traveling to Bangkok with his two children from a previous marriage. However, Bee was unaware of these plans, leading to two days of fruitless searching. It is believed that her despair stemmed from feelings of neglect and jealousy over her husband spending time with his children without informing her. Police escorted Bee to Suwannaphum Hospital for a medical check-up and counselling. Her family has been informed and will assist in taking her home. -- 2025-01-27

  16. Picture from responders. Myanmar national dies after contacting high-voltage wires and falling from the third floor of a Bangkok office building. A 32-year-old Myanmar man lost his life on 25 January after being electrocuted while cleaning the exterior wall of a five-storey office building in Rama III Soi 11, Bang Kho Laem District. The incident occurred at approximately 13:00 according to Lt. Natthawut Rodsungnoen of Wat Phraya Krai Police Station, who investigated the scene alongside rescue volunteers, forensic doctors from Chulalongkorn Hospital, and officials from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority. The victim, identified as Mr. Nim, was found at the base of the building and burn marks were observed on his back and right foot. Investigators determined that he had fallen from the third floor after coming into contact with a high-voltage wire. Witnesses reported that Mr. Nim had been part of a team of five workers hired to clean the building's exterior. While his colleagues descended on ropes, Mr. Nim accidentally touched the live wire, which caused an electrical current to pass through his body. A loud explosion was heard before he fell to the ground. Mr. Pan, a 38-year-old relative and coworker of the deceased, stated, "I was working on the ground while others, including Mr. Nim, were descending from above. Suddenly, I heard a loud bang and saw him fall. I rushed to perform CPR and called an ambulance, but it was too late. He was already gone when medics arrived." The body was sent to Chulalongkorn Hospital for an autopsy, and the family has been contacted to arrange funeral rites. Authorities are continuing their investigation. -- 2025-01-26

  18. Picture from responders. In an incident on 25 January, Udon Thani police discovered the charred remains of a man after a fire at his hut within a rubber plantation in Ban Sri Muang Village, Ban Dung District. The deceased, identified as Mr. Chaiyut, was found severely burned near the central part of the structure. The fire, which engulfed the entire hut and nearby grass, was extinguished by local firefighters. All belongings were destroyed, and Mr. Chaiyut's body was found with only parts of his torso and head identifiable, heavily damaged by the flames. According to relatives, the deceased had a history of depression and drug addiction. Earlier that day, he had attended a family funeral in the village and purchased a small bottle of rice whisky from a local shop. CCTV footage captured him arriving on a blue Honda Wave motorbike, appearing agitated and refusing to dismount as he quickly bought his items before riding to the plantation. Authorities are exploring multiple theories. Initial speculation suggests that Mr. Chaiyut may have accidentally set the hut ablaze while intoxicated, possibly from a cigarette. Another angle being investigated is the possibility of foul play, potentially linked to debts from methamphetamine use. However, police have not ruled out any scenarios and await further investigation to clarify the circumstances. Despite the suspicions, the family does not believe he was murdered and has not raised concerns about the cause of death. They have since conducted traditional funeral rites, including cremation at the site of the incident. One poignant detail from the ceremony was the presence of "Dam," Mr. Chaiyut's loyal male dog, who sat in vigil near his late owner's pyre. Mr. Chaiyut had been living alone for over a decade following his divorce. He leaves behind twin daughters, now grown and living elsewhere. Police continue their investigation into the incident, urging anyone with additional information to come forward. -- 2025-01-26
  19. British Man Arrested in Thailand for 20-Year-Old UK Murder Case Collaboration between Immigration Bureau and DSI leads to capture of Yorkshire Dales murder suspect. 20. Picture courtesy of Immigration. Collaboration between Immigration Bureau and DSI leads to capture of Yorkshire Dales murder suspect. In a breakthrough case spanning two decades, Thai Immigration authorities, in collaboration with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), apprehended 62-year-old British national David Stuart Armitage. Armitage is the prime suspect in the murder of his Thai wife, Lamduan Armitage (née Seekanya), whose body was discovered in 2004 in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, UK. The arrest took place on 23 January 2025 in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand, where the suspect had been living in hiding. Lamduan's body was found in 2004 by hikers in the Yorkshire Dales. For years, she remained unidentified and was dubbed "The Lady of the Hills." DNA testing in 2019 finally confirmed her identity, linking her to her family in Udon Thani, Thailand. Lamduan had moved to the UK to live with her British husband, David Armitage, and their two children. Reports suggest she had been working in a Thai restaurant and had confided in her family about being subjected to domestic abuse shortly before her disappearance. Authorities tracked Armitage to a residence at 46/1 Nong Bua, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi Province. After confirming his identity, the Immigration Bureau deemed him a threat under Section 12(7) of the Thai Immigration Act, B.E. 2522, and revoked his residency permit. He was subsequently detained at the Immigration Detention Centre in Suan Phlu, Bangkok, for extradition proceedings under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) between Thailand and the United Kingdom. This arrest highlights the joint efforts between Thai and UK authorities. The operation was coordinated by senior officials, including Justice Minister Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong and Immigration Bureau Chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumas Boonyalak. The collaboration extended to the DSI, whose officers provided crucial support in apprehending the fugitive. With Armitage now in custody, legal proceedings are underway to extradite him to the UK to face charges related to Lamduan's death. Authorities on both sides remain committed to ensuring justice for the victim and her family. This case underscores the importance of international cooperation in tackling transnational crimes and bringing long- standing fugitives to justice.
