  3. Picture from responders. A fire again broke out at the Win Process Co. Ltd. facility in Ban Nong Phawa, Bang But Subdistrict, Ban Khai District, Rayong, late on 27 January. Flames engulfed the warehouse, with smoke continuing to billow as firefighters worked to contain the blaze. According to Ms. Phongphan Charoenrom, the head of Bang But Subdistrict, the fire initially erupted in Warehouse 5, located next to a rubber plantation. Emergency services from the Bang But Subdistrict Administration Organisation were promptly dispatched to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby areas. District Chief Vijit Paplongam also rushed to the site to oversee firefighting efforts. The fire has since been brought under control, though large plumes of smoke remain in the area. The incident is the latest in a series of controversies involving Win Process Co. Ltd., a company linked to illegal industrial waste dumping in public and environmental areas. The facility, situated on a 73-rai plot in the heart of Ban Nong Phawa, has faced accusations of improper handling and disposal of industrial waste. This is not the first fire at the site. On 22 April 2024, a major blaze erupted in Warehouse 5, which stored hazardous materials and industrial waste. The fire quickly spread to Warehouse 3 and adjacent areas, releasing toxic fumes and strong odours that affected 1,531 residents from 582 households. Following the previous fire, the Department of Industrial Works (DIW) discovered chemical waste, burnt debris, and contaminated water used in firefighting efforts. Toxic substances from the stored waste were found to have accumulated in a large acid pond on the property. Subsequently, the Rayong Provincial Court ordered all hazardous materials on-site to be confiscated and handed over to the DIW for treatment and disposal. The court also held Win Process Co. Ltd. liable for all related costs. The company is currently addressing the disposal of over 33,800 tonnes of residual waste at the site, which remains a pressing concern for the local community. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation to ensure safety and minimise further environmental damage. 5. Picture courtesy of RTN. The Royal Thai Navy’s Second Fleet intercepted a Vietnamese fishing vessel illegally harvesting sea cucumbers near the shore of Ranot District, Songkhla Province. This marks the third such arrest this month as poachers target marine resources amidst rough sea conditions, which make sea cucumbers easier to collect. At 16.00 on 27 January, Vice Admiral Nares Wongtragoon, Commander of the Second Naval Area Command and Director of the Maritime National Interest Protection Centre, led a press conference at the Songkhla Naval Base. The arrest involved one Vietnamese fishing vessel, its captain, and five crew members. The boat was seized 65 kilometres off the coast of Nakhon Si Thammarat, carrying sea cucumbers and various other marine species. The operation began the previous evening (26 January) when a Dornier 228 reconnaissance aircraft and Patrol Boat 995 from the Second Fleet detected the Vietnamese vessel illegally fishing just 69 kilometres east of the Ranot coastline. The boat attempted to flee but was pursued and eventually detained. Vice Admiral Nares revealed that this was the third such incident in January. A total of three boats and 15 crew members have been apprehended, with each vessel valued at approximately two million baht. The rough sea conditions during this period cause sea cucumbers to surface, making them easier to harvest. As a result, poachers have been venturing closer to the shore. The fishing method also involves dragging a rake-like tool with hooks, which not only collects sea cucumbers but also destroys other marine life, causing severe ecological damage, he explained. The Vietnamese boats, upon capture, are permanently confiscated and not returned. The crew members face prosecution under fisheries and immigration laws. Despite the risks of arrest, poachers continue their activities due to the high market value of processed sea cucumbers, which are sold as performance-enhancing tonics or supplements at prices ranging from 300 to 500 baht per kilogram. Authorities remain vigilant in protecting marine resources from illegal and destructive practices. -- 2025-01-28

Both injured parties were promptly transported to the hospital. A grey Isuzu pickup truck, driven by 71-year-old Mr. Thawat, was stopped in the middle of the road. According to preliminary investigations, Mr. Thanakrit had been delivering goods near the scene of the crash and was en route to Makro when his motorcycle chain slipped. He stopped near the entrance of the Banbunjongburi Hotel to inspect the problem. While he was examining his vehicle, Pol. Sgt. Maj. Charoenporn, who was patrolling the area, stopped to assist. The officer suggested that the rider accompany him to the Bang Yai Police Outpost, located approximately one kilometre away, where tools were available to repair the bike. Pol. Sgt. Maj. Charoenporn then offered to push Mr. Thanakrit's motorcycle from behind using his foot as he rode his motorcycle, while Mr. Thanakrit steered it. As they reached the rightmost lane near the U-turn, intending to head to the outpost, a pickup truck approached from behind and collided with both motorcycles at high speed.
