Picture from responders A five-year-old girl was rescued by emergency responders in an unusual incident , after her leg became trapped in the wheel of a bicycle while riding with her father to a local shop. The incident occurred near Paknam Veterinary Hospital on Sai Luat Road, Muang District, Samut Prakan. Emergency services were alerted to the incident by the Samut Prakan Rescue Centre. Responders from the Ruam Kusol Foundation and Siwa volunteers arrived promptly at the scene to assist. The father, 35-year-old Mr. Adi, of Karen ethnicity, was seen holding his crying daughter, Yaya, who also belongs to the Karen community. Her right leg was stuck between the bike frame and the spokes of the rear wheel. Initial attempts to free the child using pliers to loosen the wheel were unsuccessful. The rescuers ultimately had to use wire cutters to remove the spokes, successfully freeing the child. Fortunately, there were no visible mayor injuries or broken bones, though responders advised Mr. Adi to monitor his daughter for any signs of pain or swelling and to seek medical attention if needed. Mr. Adi explained that his daughter wanted ice cream, and while he initially planned to buy it for her alone, she insisted on accompanying him. As they cycled to the shop, he heard her scream and stopped to find her leg caught in the wheel. Local passers-by helped him call for assistance. After the rescue, Mr. Adi planned to wash his daughter’s leg at a friend’s nearby house, buy her the promised ice cream, and then return home. He intended to come back later to collect the bicycle. -- 2025-01-21

Picture from responders. An incident in Udon Thani province occurred on the night of January 19, when a man was killed in a hit-and-run incident after his motorcycle had first collided with another pickup. The crash left one man dead and another injured. Police Lieutenant Colonel Pairongam Yodpanya, an investigator with Phen Police Station, reported the crash occurred at approximately 19:00, along the Sum Sao–Ban Dung Road, near the three-way intersection leading to Ban Non Sawang in Tao Hai subdistrict, Phen district. At the scene, authorities found the body of Mr. Chalit aged 52, from Ban Dung district. He was lying on the roadside wearing a dark jacket and jeans. His sandals were scattered nearby. His green Honda Wave 125 motorcycle, damaged, was found about 10 metres away. A cardboard box tied to the motorbike contained a fighting rooster that survived the accident unscathed. Parked along the roadside was a grey Isuzu pickup truck with damage to its right front wheel arch. The driver, 74-year-old Mr. Lamsorn, from Phen district, had sustained minor injuries and was awaiting police at the scene. Mr. Lamsorn recounted that he was driving home from Ban Non Sawang when the motorcycle collided heavily with the right side of his vehicle after he had turned left at the intersection. He immediately pulled over and rushed to check on the motorcyclist, who lay motionless in the middle of the road. Fearing another vehicle might hit the injured man, Mr. Lamsorn began dragging him to the roadside. Moments later, a speeding pickup truck heading towards Ban Dung struck both Mr. Chalit and Mr. Lamsorn. The truck ran over Mr. Chalit’s body, throwing it off the road. The driver of the second truck fled the scene. Mr. Lamsorn managed to jump away to avoid most of the impact, but sustained a cut to his mouth during the incident. Mr. Manat Kamkanya, a first responder from Ban Lao Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, confirmed the victim had no vital signs upon arrival and was pronounced dead at the scene. He also treated Mr. Lamsorn for his injuries before transporting him to Phen Hospital. The crash occurred in a poorly lit area, with no streetlights or CCTV cameras. Mr. Manat speculated that darkness likely played a role in the collision between the motorcycle and the first pickup truck. Relatives of the deceased were informed of the incident after they called Mr. Chalit’s phone. They revealed that he worked as a mechanic in Nong Nok Khian village, Phen district, and commuted between his workplace and Ban Dung on weekends. He was transporting a fighting rooster home at the time of the collision. Police have taken Mr. Chalit’s body to Phen Hospital while awaiting his family to claim it for funeral rites. Investigators plan to interview Mr. Lamsorn in more detail after he recovers from the shock, in hopes of identifying the fleeing driver. -- 2025-01-21

The suspects, identified as Samuel Lee Jackson and Jared Liam Wong, both aged 34, were apprehended after failing to stop at a police checkpoint in Patong. A subsequent search revealed a significant quantity of illegal substances, including: • 100 grams of ice (methamphetamine) mixed with cocaine • 6 Lorazepam pills, commonly associated with drug-facilitated crimes • 4 methamphetamine-soaked paper strips • 14 grams of magic mushrooms • 88 cocaine capsules • 50 Alprazolam pills The arrests follow increased police scrutiny at the festival, which has drawn tens of thousands of attendees to Phuket. The suspects are now in custody and face multiple charges related to drug possession and distribution. M79 Grenades Fired at Kapho Police Station in Pattani – No Casualties Reported In a bold and alarming act, assailants launched two M79 grenades at the Kapho Police Station in Pattani Province, causing damage but fortunately resulting in no injuries. Picture from responders. In a bold and alarming act, assailants launched two M79 grenades at the Kapho Police Station in Pattani Province, causing damage but fortunately resulting in no injuries. The perpetrators fled into a nearby forest after the attack. The incident occurred on January 19, while Police Colonel Sinchai Pabubpa, the superintendent of Kapho Police Station, was on duty in his ground-floor office. Around midday, the station was shaken by the thunderous sound of two explosions, sending officers inside the building scrambling for safety. Upon inspection, it was found that one of the grenades had struck the roof of a police housing unit adjacent to the station. The house belonged to Police Sergeant Major Samathi Nonghong, who was away at the time. The blast shattered roof tiles and nearby windows, including those of neighbouring homes. The second grenade landed in the vicinity but did not cause any visible damage. Fragments of the M79 grenades were recovered at the scene and collected as evidence. In a separate but likely related incident, an explosion was reported in the nearby village of Moo 5, in Plong Hoi subdistrict. This occurred on a dirt mound roughly 200 metres from an old palm oil factory. Investigators discovered fragments of a steel box and shrapnel scattered across the site, which were also secured as evidence. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported in either attack. Deputy Commander of Pattani Provincial Police, Police Colonel Prayong Khotsakha, visited the Kapho Police Station to oversee the investigation. He instructed officers to gather evidence, review CCTV footage, and tighten security measures. Checkpoints were established in critical areas, particularly near government buildings, to prevent further attacks. Authorities believe the attacks were orchestrated by insurgent groups active in the region. The assailants are suspected to have approached the police station on foot, firing the M79 grenades from the forested area opposite the station before retreating into the dense vegetation. This latest attack underscores the ongoing unrest in southern Thailand, where security forces remain on high alert to counter potential threats. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts to identify and apprehend the culprits are being intensified. -- 2025-01-21

The collision occurred at around 13:00 on January 19, on the Khanu Woralaksaburi-Bueng Samakkhi Road in Kamphaeng Phet province. Police officers and rescue workers arrived at the scene to find a grey Isuzu D-Max pickup truck, completely wrecked after crashing into the stationary lorry. Three passengers were pronounced dead at the scene: Mrs. Aksornsawan, 29, the driver’s wife; their daughter, Nanrinee, aged 1 year and 8 months; and their nephew, Thanakrit, aged 9. Two others were injured, the driver, Mr. Sermrit, 31, sustained arm injuries, while his 7-year-old daughter, Nanthanaphat, suffered minor injuries to her arm and leg. Rescue workers described harrowing scenes, with blood and debris scattered across the road. Mr. Sermrit was found weeping inconsolably as he held the lifeless body of his young daughter. The nephew’s body had been thrown from the vehicle upon impact, while Mrs. Aksornsawan’s body was trapped inside the crumpled pickup, requiring rescue teams to spend over 30 minutes cutting her free. The family had been returning from a trip to Bueng Si Fai in Phichit province and were mere minutes away from their home in Yang Sung subdistrict, Khanu Woralaksaburi district, when the collision occurred. The driver of the lorry, Mr. Somsak, 50, told police he had pulled over with his hazard lights on to check the tyres of his truck, which was fully loaded with sugarcane bound for a factory in Nakhon Sawan. He said he was about to drive off when he heard a loud crash and discovered the pickup had slammed into the rear of his vehicle. At the hospital in Khanu Woralaksaburi, surviving family members gathered to identify the deceased, overwhelmed with grief. Mr. Sermrit’s 7-year-old daughter clung to him, visibly shaken by the ordeal. Police are continuing their investigation, including testing Mr. Somsak for alcohol or drugs, and are reviewing whether the parked lorry’s positioning contributed to the accident. -- 2025-01-20

The incident occurred at around 12:00 on January 19, when 43-year-old Anan, the plantation owner, fired a loud fire cracker in an attempt to chase the elephant away, fearing for his crops. However, the wild elephant reacted aggressively, charging at Anan and trampling him, causing serious injuries, including a broken leg and internal bleeding. The elephant then fled back into the forest. Local authorities were alerted by the village headman, Boonman Chaiyawong, and rushed to the scene along with a team of volunteers from the Klong Kaew Waterfall National Park. When the rescue team arrived, they found blood, the cracker remnants, and a hat near the scene, indicating the severity of the attack. Anan was quickly transported to Bo Rai Hospital for treatment, where he remains in a critical condition. The elephant, known for its mischievous behaviour, had previously fallen into a pond and was rescued by villagers. Despite being helped out of the water, the animal refused to return to the forest, causing concern among locals. This incident highlights the ongoing human-elephant conflict in rural Thailand, where wild elephants often venture into agricultural areas in search of food, leading to potential danger for farmers and villagers. -- 2025-01-20

Picture from responders. A 41-year-old man has shot and killed his wife in front of their 9-year-old child after a heated argument in their home. The tragedy unfolded late on the night of 18 January, in the village of Ban Klang, Lamphun province. Authorities received the call at 22:00 and promptly arrived at the scene a car repair shop converted into a home. Inside, they discovered the body of 39-year-old Piyamas, who had been shot once in the left temple with a .22-caliber gun. She was found in a pool of blood in the kitchen, near the refrigerator. The suspected perpetrator, Phattanapong, 41, her husband, was still at the scene and surrendered to police without attempting to flee. He handed over the firearm used in the killing and initially claimed that the shooting was an accident, resulting from a struggle over the weapon. According to preliminary reports, the couple had been drinking together with a friend earlier in the evening, before an argument broke out. Phattanapong became suspicious of his wife's loyalty and, in a fit of jealousy, confronted her. The situation escalated, and the weapon went off during a tussle. Phattanapong's jealousy is believed to stem from concerns that his wife had been involved with another man. It is reported that after Piyamas left her job at a factory, the couple's relationship became strained, and Phattanapong demanded she stay home. Despite this, tensions continued to mount until the fatal confrontation. The most poignant and heart-wrenching scene at the crime scene was discovered by rescue workers, who found the couple's young son sitting on the sofa, crying while clutching a photograph of his deceased mother, after witnessing the whole incident. The police investigation is ongoing, and Phattanapong has been taken into custody. Authorities have expressed their condolences to the family and are continuing to gather evidence related to the case. -- 2025-01-20

UPDATE Fire Extinguished After Burning Through Khao Krathing for Two Days A forest fire that ravaged Khao Krathing in Sattahip District, Chonburi, for two days has been successfully extinguished. UPDATE Picture from responders. A forest fire that ravaged Khao Krathing in Sattahip District, Chonburi, for two days has been successfully extinguished. Officials have confirmed that the cause of the fire was not natural but the result of human activity, with evidence also showing pipes illegally laid up the mountain contributed to the spread of the flames. The fire began on the evening of 17 January at 19:30, rapidly spreading across a vast area of forest in Moo 6, Klet Kaew Subdistrict. Firefighting teams were quickly deployed to prevent the blaze from encroaching on nearby residential areas. Dr Chalermchai Sri-on, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, responded by dispatching a helicopter to assist in tackling the fire on the mountainous terrain. In addition, 40 forestry officials were sent to create firebreaks in an urgent effort to halt the blaze. On 19 January, Mr Anusak Piriyamor, District Chief of Sattahip, inspected the area alongside Mrs Thanyapat Akkaraphutthathip, Deputy Mayor of Klet Kaew Subdistrict, and personnel from various agencies, including the Royal Thai Navy, forestry officials, and local authorities. A command centre was established to manage the firefighting operations effectively. The Royal Thai Navy’s helicopter and a helicopter from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment conducted multiple dropping missions over two days. Ground teams also worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames. By the afternoon of 19 January, aerial surveys confirmed that the fire had been fully extinguished, with no visible flames or smoke. However, ground teams discovered that the blaze had been fuelled by pipes illegally laid on the mountain, which acted as a source of ignition and contributed to the fire’s rapid spread. The Royal Thai Navy played a crucial role in the firefighting efforts, adapting their operations to include forest fire suppression. In a mission dubbed “Operation Dawn,” the Navy deployed a Seahawk helicopter, typically used in anti-submarine warfare, to tackle the blaze. This operation highlights the Navy’s commitment to standing alongside the public in times of crisis. With their efforts, the fire was contained, and peace was restored to the local community. This incident underscores the need for increased vigilance against human activity that poses a threat to natural resources and public safety. Authorities are investigating the incident further to identify those responsible for laying the pipes that contributed to the disaster. Picture from responders. A 32-year-old fish vendor, overwhelmed by the pressure of mounting daily loan repayments, tragically ended his life at a resort in Mueang Maha Sarakham district on January 19. Emergency services were alerted by the resort staff after the man was found unconscious in the bathroom. Upon arrival, rescue workers discovered that he had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the left temple. Police and forensic experts were called to the scene, where evidence confirmed the use of a homemade.38-calibre firearm. The deceased, identified as Mr. Jakkrit, had been a regular fish vendor at Waeng Nang market in Maha Sarakham. His silver Toyota pickup truck, loaded with water tanks and fish-selling equipment, was parked outside the room. Inside the room, officials found his personal belongings, including a shoulder bag and identification card, neatly placed on the bed. No signs of struggle were observed. Ms. Nongnuch Outrach, a local medic, described the moment she arrived at the scene. "The man was seated in the bathroom with a gun on his lap. At first, we couldn't tell whether the liquid on the floor was water or blood because the room was dark. Once we saw the firearm, we immediately exited and called the police." Family members and fellow market vendors gathered at the resort upon hearing the news, expressing grief and disbelief. Mr. Thawat Phimmaha, the 74-year-old grandfather of the deceased, said, "Jakkrit always took me with him when buying or selling fish. Yesterday was unusual because he didn't take me along and didn't return home. He had debts amounting to 50,000-60,000 baht from multiple lenders, and the pressure of daily repayments was overwhelming. This morning, I tried calling him but couldn't reach him, only to later learn of his death." A fellow fish vendor, Ms. Sumitra Thawon, revealed that Mr. Jakkrit had missed selling at the market for two consecutive days. "Debt collectors came to him every day. He often mentioned the stress of making daily payments. He even joked with his sibling about escaping his debts, but we never thought he would take his own life. It's heartbreaking," she said.
