Picture from responders. A discovery was made early morning on January 21, in Surat Thani, where the decomposing body of a 60-year-old man was found in his pickup truck. The man, identified as Mr. Thanomsin, reportedly had an argument with his wife three days prior and left home, only to be discovered dead in his vehicle. The incident was reported to the police at 07:45 by local residents who noticed the pickup truck parked along the inbound side of Route 417 near Central Plaza Surat Thani. Pol. Lt. Anuwat Raksayoth, Deputy Inspector of Surat Thani Police Station, arrived at the scene with medical staff from Surat Thani Hospital and rescue workers from Kusonsattha Foundation. The silver Isuzu truck, registered in Bangkok, was parked by the roadside. Inside, authorities found Mr. Thanomsin’s body in the driver’s seat, significantly decomposed and emitting a foul odour. Initial investigations revealed a brown shoulder bag containing his ID card, as well as two empty bottles of liquor, an energy drink, a bottle of water, and his mobile phone on the passenger seat. The vehicle’s keys were still in the ignition and it did not appear the pickup had moved since being parked. Local residents confirmed the truck had been stationary there, since the afternoon of Sunday, 19 January. The victim’s 47-year-old wife arrived at the scene shortly after the discovery. She explained that her husband had left home on Sunday following a minor domestic argument. Intoxicated, he had driven away while she went to her usual market stall. Upon returning home, she realised he was missing and spent the subsequent days searching for him, only to find him deceased in his truck by the roadside. Police are continuing their investigation, and the body has been sent to the forensic unit at Surat Thani Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. -- 2025-01-22

Picture from responders. Bangkok on January 21, at approximately 12:00, Lieutenant Jarint Rattanasuwanachai, Deputy Inspector of Lumpini Police Station, and rescue volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation responded to a fatal road incident on Sukhumvit Soi 10. At the scene, officers found the body of a delivery rider, Mr. Ritthisak, wearing a pink long-sleeved shirt and jeans. The rider had been struck by a car, with the force of the collision throwing the victim into a CCTV pole, leaving the body severely twisted on the floor. Nearby, the victim’s electric motorcycle lay in a damaged state. Eyewitness accounts provided by Mr. Kittipoom, 48, another delivery rider, revealed that the incident stemmed from a heated argument between the deceased and the driver, reported of Indian heritage, of a white Toyota Altis. The two vehicles had been stopped in the right-hand lane, reportedly following a minor collision. The argument escalated when the car driver attempted to flee the scene, but the rider stood in front of the car to block its path. According to Mr. Kittipoom, the rider struck the car in frustration, prompting the driver to exit the vehicle and assault the rider. The rider then got on his electric motorcycle and tried to flee, but the car pursued him, ultimately ramming into him with such force it flung the rider into a utility pole, resulting in his death. The victim’s wife spoke to reporters, expressing her devastation at the loss of her husband, the family’s sole breadwinner. She revealed that they had been married for over 24 years and had four children, with the eldest recently finishing high school and preparing for university. Her husband had been working tirelessly to cover household expenses and school fees. She also condemned the driver’s actions, questioning how someone could commit such a callous act without considering the consequences for the victim’s family. She vowed to seek justice and hold the driver accountable for her husband’s death. Video of the start of the incident. Following the incident, the Toyota Altis, with license plate number from Bangkok, fled the scene. Police apprehended the driver in Soi Sukhumvit 4 and brought them to Lumpini Police Station for questioning. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances leading to the incident. Police later identified the driver as Mr. Seree, 30 years old, the son of the owner of a cloth shop in Soi Sukhumvit 7/1. Initially, the police charged the suspect with intentional homicide and reckless driving causing the death of another person. The suspect was handed over to the investigators to proceed with legal action. -- 2025-01-22

Pictures from responders. A man believed to have been attempting to steal power cables from an electricity pole in Udon Thani has died after being electrocuted and falling to the ground. The incident also triggered a fire in nearby roadside grass, which was swiftly extinguished by emergency services. Police in Udon Thani received a report of the incident on the evening of January 20. Pol. Lt. Col. Teerapap Phukhantai of the Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, along with firefighters and electrical authority staff, rushed to the scene near an abandoned petrol station on Mittraphap Road (Route 22) in Ban Pornsawan, Nong Na Kham Subdistrict. On arrival, officers discovered the body of a man, estimated to be 30-40 years old, lying at the base of an electricity pole. The man’s left hand and head bore severe burn marks, consistent with electrocution. Nearby, they found a 20mm spanner, a machete, and a bag containing wire-cutting tools, many of which were damaged by fire. A bicycle was also located close to the pole, believed to belong to the deceased. The pole, part of the old petrol station’s infrastructure, showed signs of tampering, with wooden sticks inserted into its holes, likely to assist the man in climbing. Investigators believe he was attempting to cut and steal the power cables when he came into contact with a live wire, causing his fatal fall. The incident also caused a small fire in the surrounding grassland, which was promptly extinguished by local firefighters, preventing further damage. A witness, Sarawit Treethra, 23, who was driving along the road at the time, reported seeing bright sparks and hearing an explosion. He turned his vehicle around and saw the man’s lifeless body near the pole, immediately calling the police. Authorities are working to identify the deceased, as no identification documents were found at the scene. Investigations are ongoing, but police suspect the man had planned to steal the cables for resale, a common motive in such cases. -- 2025-01-21

Picture from responders. A collision occurred between a car and a Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) bus, leaving the car driver critically injured and three bus passengers hurt. The incident took place at 16:30 on January 19, near the entrance of Soi Hom Kret 2 on Rai Khing-Don Wai Road in Sampran District, Nakhon Pathom Province. Emergency services from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation were called to the scene. The crash involved a grey Toyota Altis that had collided head-on with and become wedged beneath the front of a BMTA bus, Route 556, registered as 12-5820 Bangkok. The impact caused the car to be crushed up to the driver’s seat, trapping the driver inside. Rescue teams had to use hydraulic cutters to free the driver, 34-year-old Mr. Kawinphon, a local factory worker. The extrication process was challenging due to the car being tightly wedged under the bus’s front axle and took approximately 45 minutes. Mr. Kawinphon sustained multiple injuries, including chest injuries and a fractured right leg, and was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Ms. Rangsaya, 40, the driver of the BMTA bus, recounted the incident. She explained that she was driving from the Rai Khing depot towards Sanam Luang in Bangkok when the Toyota veered into her lane. “I tried to steer to the right to avoid the car, but it followed and crashed into us,” she said. The bus was carrying around 20 seated passengers at the time. Three individuals, including a 3-year-old girl, her guardian, and an elderly man, were injured when they were thrown from their seats. They were treated at a local hospital. Ms. Rangsaya noted, “Luckily, there were no standing passengers. Otherwise, more people could have been hurt.” Police from Sampran Police Station are reviewing CCTV footage from the bus and plan to interview Mr. Kawinphon once he recovers to determine the exact cause of the collision. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to ensure accountability and prevent similar occurrences. -- 2025-01-21

Picture from responders. In the early hours of January 20, local police from Chaiyaphruek Police Station responded to a report of a suspicious man believed to be attempting theft at a shopping mall on Ratchapruek Road, Bang Phlap, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi. At approximately 01:30, officers arrived at the scene to find a Yamaha red-and-black motorcycle parked beneath a 25-metre-high sign. Next to the motorcycle were two fertiliser bags, and the gate leading to the sign had been forced open, with its padlock cut. Inside, police discovered a pair of bolt cutters. After inspecting the sign, officers spotted a man atop the structure. They spent 20 minutes negotiating with him before he agreed to climb down. The man, identified as 27-year-old Mr. Tontrakarn from Suphanburi Province, told police that he had no intention of theft. He explained that he had been unemployed since the New Year and had recently quarrelled with a contractor he had been working for. As a result, he decided to return to his hometown in Suphanburi. During his journey, he stopped to rest near the mall and admitted to cutting the gate’s padlock and climbing up the sign to sleep. He claimed he did so out of fear of being electrocuted by the wires on the ground, which he perceived as a safety risk. He denied any plans to commit theft. Despite his explanation, police were sceptical and took Mr. Tontrakarn into custody for further questioning. Mall staff reported that after closing for the night, security personnel noticed the suspiciously parked motorcycle and found the gate’s padlock had been cut. Bolt cutters were also found inside. CCTV footage showed Mr. Tontrakarn entering the premises, cutting the lock, and climbing the sign. Police have yet to confirm whether anything has been stolen. However, they suspect Mr. Tontrakarn intended to steal copper wiring or lightning conductors but climbed the sign when security was alerted to him being there. Further investigations are underway. -- 2025-01-21

UPDATE Police Intensify Investigation into Former Teacher’s Murder, Suspect Linked to Drug Network Authorities are ramping up efforts to solve the fatal shooting of a retired teacher in Ayutthaya, believed to involve a suspect linked to a notorious drug network. The incident occurred on the afternoon of 18 January, when Mr. Nak Anantarangsi, 60, was shot dead in his car along Highway 3011 in Bang Pa-In district. UPDATE Picture from responders. Authorities are ramping up efforts to solve the fatal shooting of a retired teacher in Ayutthaya, believed to involve a suspect linked to a notorious drug network. The incident occurred on the afternoon of 18 January, when Mr. Nak Anantarangsi, 60, was shot dead in his car along Highway 3011 in Bang Pa-In district. Police investigations have identified a key suspect, known as “Mr. Tee,” who is allegedly connected to the “Jip Phai Kiew” drug network. Officers are working to gather evidence for an arrest warrant while coordinating with immigration authorities nationwide to prevent the suspect from fleeing the country. On 20 January, Pol. Col. Adirek Photipan, superintendent of Bang Pa-In Police Station, led a team, including EOD and forensic officers, in searching a one-kilometre radius around the crime scene. This followed the discovery of a discarded shirt and mobile phone near the area. However, after a two-hour search, no additional evidence was found. Investigators have interviewed seven witnesses, including the victim’s ex-wife, children, and eyewitnesses to the shooting. One crucial testimony came from a woman whose image appeared on the discarded phone. She identified the motorcycle used in the crime as belonging to Mr. Tee and confirmed that a red shirt worn by the suspect post-crime was his. Other clothing and footwear linked to the suspect are being examined to strengthen the case. Preliminary investigations reveal that Mr. Tee is connected to Noppol Prasongsil, alias “Jip Phai Kiew,” a fugitive drug network leader involved in past violent crimes. Mr. Tee, who has prior charges for firearm offences, document forgery, and attempted murder, is believed to have a history of conflict with the victim. A handwritten note found in the victim’s car referred to a court case scheduled for 28 January 2025, in which Mr. Tee is a defendant. Police suspect the two were in contact over legal disputes, with phone records showing multiple calls, including a lengthy one just before the shooting. Evidence suggests the suspect lured the victim to the scene under the pretext of discussing financial matters. Authorities are investigating whether Mr. Tee acted alone or had accomplices. The victim had reportedly acted as a legal advisor to Mr. Tee, even assisting him in surrendering to police in March 2024. However, disagreements over unresolved legal matters and financial dealings may have escalated into the fatal incident. The police continue to examine CCTV footage, witness accounts, and forensic evidence to build a comprehensive case. Efforts are also underway to locate and apprehend Mr. Tee, who is believed to be hiding in the country. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are confident in uncovering the full circumstances behind this case and bringing the perpetrator to justice. Picture from responders. A shocking murder took place in a rural home in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, when a woman allegedly killed her husband while he was asleep. Authorities were alerted to the grisly incident around midday on January 20, when the body of 58-year-old Mr. Prasit, the deceased, was found with severe neck wounds, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp object. His 54-year-old wife, Mrs. Somchit, was found at the scene, calmly observing the body. Upon investigation, police found a bloodstained axe and kitchen knife inside the house, which are suspected to have been used in the crime. Additionally, a bloodied blanket, mattress, and other belongings were found neatly arranged on a haystack behind the house, seemingly prepared for disposal by burning. Mr. Sak, the victim’s 77-year-old father, spoke of his son’s peaceful nature, stating that Mr. Prasit had never been involved in any major conflicts. He mentioned that Mrs. Somchit, a kindergarten teacher in the area, had a long history of mental health issues and was under regular medication. When she missed her medication, she would often become disoriented and incoherent, though he noted she had never been violent before. The couple had been married for over 30 years and had three children. Initial suspicions point to Mrs. Somchit as the likely perpetrator, with relatives suggesting that her recent failure to take her psychiatric medication may have contributed to a violent episode. Mrs. Somchit’s behaviour during questioning was erratic, and she seemed unaware of the gravity of the situation. Her relatives revealed that her condition had worsened in recent days. On January 17, she had been taken to see a doctor, and an appointment for January 20 was scheduled to receive her medication. Tragically, the murder occurred before she could receive treatment. Mr. Chakrapan, the victim’s brother-in-law, recalled that he and his wife had visited the house earlier in the day to tend to the family’s cattle. When they arrived, they noticed the front door slightly ajar, and upon entering, they discovered Mr. Prasit’s lifeless body. Mr. Chakrapan attempted to revive him but found his body cold, indicating that he had been dead for some time. At that point, Mrs. Somchit reportedly embraced him and spoke incoherently, which raised further suspicions about her involvement. The police investigation has revealed that there were no signs of forced entry to the house, and the only blood found at the scene was from the victim. Authorities are currently examining the evidence to confirm the cause of death and determine whether Mrs. Somchit will face charges. According to Police Colonel Thatchapong Phromma, Head of Kantharalak Police Station, they are in the process of collecting more evidence to apply for an arrest warrant. The police are working with the family and local community to piece together the events leading to this incident. -- 2025-01-21
