Nearby, a damaged Yamaha Grand Filano motorcycle was discovered, with its rear wheel detached from the body of the vehicle. The driver of the Mercedes, identified as Ms. Fueanglada, 29, remained at the scene to provide her statement to the authorities. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were riding their motorcycle out of Soi Sena Nikhom 1 Intersection 26 towards Ladprao-Wang Hin Road. The Mercedes, driving straight at high speed, struck the rear of the motorcycle. The impact propelled the two women onto the road at the entrance of Soi Sena Nikhom 1 Intersection 28, while the Mercedes dragged the motorcycle nearly 80 metres before coming to a stop. Preliminary investigations suggest that Dew may have unlocked the door and wandered outside to the shrimp pond, where he fell in and drowned. Emergency responders, including a medical team from Cha-am Hospital and rescue personnel from the Sawang Sanphech Dharma Foundation, were dispatched immediately. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a severely mangled Toyota car (registration from Bangkok) lodged around the electricity pole. The impact had wrapped the car around the pole and scattered personal belongings and documents across the scene. The chase continued toward the Prasae Reservoir Road, where another police vehicle attempted to block the suspects. Mr. Pojanart rammed into this vehicle as well, injuring Police Sub-Lieutenant Sitthichai Klaipan, Police Sergeant Major Udon Thanda, Police Corporal Patcharaporn Suphannawong, and Police Lance Corporal Setthasak Wongamat. During the pursuit, the suspects threw methamphetamine pills from their vehicle, which were later recovered by police. The chase ended when the suspects’ pickup truck collided with an embankment and became immobilised. Police apprehended Mr. Pojanart and Ms. Chutima at the scene, while a third suspect, identified as Mr. Methee, managed to flee on foot. A subsequent search of the suspects’ vehicle revealed additional methamphetamine pills. Further investigation led Mr. Pojanart to guide police to a location in Moo 11, Wang Wa Subdistrict, Klaeng District, where officers seized more methamphetamine pills. Both Mr. Pojanart and Ms. Chutima confessed to possessing the drugs with the intent to distribute them to customers. They were charged with possession of a Category 1 drug with intent to sell. They, along with the confiscated evidence, have been handed over to investigators at Khao Chamao Police Station. However, 26 others managed to escape. The group was reportedly heading to Malaysia when their journey was interrupted. At around 03.00 on January 21, a local resident alerted officials stationed at the Tha Chatchai checkpoint in Mai Khao Subdistrict, Thalang District. The group was seen gathering near the northern part of Phuket Island, close to the Thaos Thepkasattri and Srisoonthorn Bridge, which connects Phang Nga and Phuket. A team led by Mr. Wiwat Jindaphon, an aide to the Deputy Minister of the Interior, joined local police and administrative officials to investigate. They discovered 49 exhausted individuals near the checkpoint. Food, water, and basic medical care were provided. Initial inquiries revealed the group had travelled aboard a vessel from a neighbouring country around the Andaman Sea. After being dropped off on the Phang Nga coastline, they crossed the bridge into Phuket. Some were spotted walking along the beach near Tha Chatchai Temple. The group originally consisted of 75 individuals, but those with enough strength walked to the checkpoint, unaware it was an immigration checkpoint. Others, upon seeing police sirens and administrative officers, fled into the surrounding area. Police are now actively searching for the 26 who remain at large. The detained group disclosed plans to travel to Malaysia, their intended third destination. During their sea voyage, disputes broke out among the migrants, and some sustained injuries. This reportedly led to their vessel, believed to be a Rohingya fishing boat originating from Bangladesh, being run aground on the beach. Among the detainees are several individuals in poor health, including one pregnant woman and 6 children aged around 10. The man, identified as Mr. Thanomsin, reportedly had an argument with his wife three days prior and left home, only to be discovered dead in his vehicle. The incident was reported to the police at 07:45 by local residents who noticed the pickup truck parked along the inbound side of Route 417 near Central Plaza Surat Thani. Pol. Lt. Anuwat Raksayoth, Deputy Inspector of Surat Thani Police Station, arrived at the scene with medical staff from Surat Thani Hospital and rescue workers from Kusonsattha Foundation. The silver Isuzu truck, registered in Bangkok, was parked by the roadside. Inside, authorities found Mr. Thanomsin’s body in the driver’s seat, significantly decomposed and emitting a foul odour. Initial investigations revealed a brown shoulder bag containing his ID card, as well as two empty bottles of liquor, an energy drink, a bottle of water, and his mobile phone on the passenger seat. The vehicle’s keys were still in the ignition and it did not appear the pickup had moved since being parked. Local residents confirmed the truck had been stationary there, since the afternoon of Sunday, 19 January. The victim’s 47-year-old wife arrived at the scene shortly after the discovery. She explained that her husband had left home on Sunday following a minor domestic argument. Intoxicated, he had driven away while she went to her usual market stall. Upon returning home, she realised he was missing and spent the subsequent days searching for him, only to find him deceased in his truck by the roadside. Police are continuing their investigation, and the body has been sent to the forensic unit at Surat Thani Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. -- 2025-01-22
