  1. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. An incident occurred early morning of January 15, in Ranong, where a 24-year-old woman lost her life after jumping out of a moving vehicle during an argument with her boyfriend, a police officer. The woman's head struck the ground, causing a fatal cervical fracture. Before her death, the victim, who has been identified only as Ms. A, reportedly contacted a close friend, sharing her location and enabling the phone's speaker mode so the friend could overhear the events inside the vehicle. The phone call ended abruptly, and moments later, the friend learned of her death. The fatal incident occurred at approximately 01:30 on a road near Khlong Hat Sompaen, behind the Ranong district office. Police, forensic specialists, and medical personnel arrived at the scene to find the body of Ms. A lying lifeless on the road. She had sustained severe head and neck injuries, facial wounds, and abrasions on her arms and legs. The woman's boyfriend, Police Lance Corporal Kittiphum, 24, was present at the scene. He stood by the gate of the district office, waiting for officers to investigate. Nearby, the Isuzu pickup truck the couple had been travelling in was parked in the middle of the road. According to Lance Corporal Kittiphum's initial testimony, the couple had argued earlier in the evening over jealousy issues. To reconcile, he took Ms. A to a local entertainment venue and then decided to stop for a meal before heading back to their residence. However, the argument resumed in the vehicle. Ms. A, seated in the rear passenger seat, allegedly opened the door and jumped out of the moving truck. She struck the ground, rolled several times, and lay motionless. Investigators discovered bloodstains and signs of impact on the roadside gravel stretching approximately six metres. The truck's side step bore footprints, indicating Ms. A might have stood on it before jumping. A close friend of the deceased revealed that Ms. A had sent her location multiple times that evening, possibly seeking help. During their phone conversation, Ms. A reportedly expressed her intention to return to the police housing flat to collect her belongings and end the relationship. The friend heard commotion before the call abruptly ended. Moments later, she was informed of the tragedy. Officers from Ranong Police Station, along with forensic experts, are gathering evidence to ascertain the exact circumstances of Ms. A's death. Given the sensitive nature of the case, especially as it involves a police officer, authorities are determined to investigate any possible foul play or any potential cover-up. The deceased's body was sent to Ranong Hospital for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death. Investigators continue to examine the vehicle and scene to determine all the facts in Ms. A's death. -- 2025-01-15

  3. Pictures from responders. A devastating fire engulfed the home of a traditional Thai musician, leaving the house in ruins and destroying valuable musical instruments worth approximately 100,000 baht. Rescue teams braved the flames to save six Persian cats, but two remain missing. The blaze was reported at 16:30 on January 14, at 3/15 Ekathotsarot Road, Soi Suphan Kanlaya 1, Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phitsanulok. Pol. Lt. Thanayot Ngam Banphue, duty officer at Mueang Phitsanulok Police Station, coordinated with multiple fire engines from the Phitsanulok Municipality, Hua Ro Subdistrict Municipality, and Ban Khlong Subdistrict Municipality to extinguish the fire. Due to the narrow access to the site, fire crews had to drag hoses into the area to combat the flames. The fire rapidly consumed the two-storey house, built partially of wood, and threatened to spread to a neighbouring property. After an hour-long battle, firefighters managed to bring the fire under control. Inside the house, eight Persian cats were trapped on the ground floor, frantically trying to escape the fire. Rescue workers risked their lives to save them, successfully bringing six cats to safety. One of the rescued cats sustained burns and suffered from smoke inhalation. It received first aid at the scene before being rushed to an animal hospital. Sadly, two cats remain unaccounted for. The house belonged to Mr. Surachai, known locally as “Tia,” a traditional Thai musician who lived alone with his cats. At the time of the fire, he was away at work. Neighbours alerted him after noticing the flames. Tragically, all his belongings were destroyed, including traditional Thai instruments such as a xylophone (ranad), a gong circle (khong wong), and drums, with an estimated value of 100,000 baht. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, with forensic teams working to gather evidence. -- 2025-01-15

The incident took place at approximately 15:30 on Tiankoon Road, Klong Khun Mahathai in Pak Kret District, prompting an immediate response from local police and rescue services. The victim, identified as Miss Wannisa, a student from Wat Saphan Sung School, was found lifeless in the middle of the road. About 30 metres away, a black Honda CR-V with Bangkok registration plates was parked, its female driver visibly shaken. Her young son, who was a passenger in the car, was also distressed. The girl’s mother, upon being notified of the incident, rushed to the scene. Overcome with grief, she collapsed to the ground, clutching her daughter’s body as she wept inconsolably. CCTV footage from a nearby shop captured the tragic moment. Miss Wannisa, along with three friends, had been playing near a roadside pavilion when she suddenly dashed across the road. The oncoming car, unable to stop in time, struck her fatally. An eyewitness, a young boy, described the moments leading up to the accident: “The four of us were playing together by the roadside when Wannisa suddenly ran across the road. The car couldn’t stop in time and hit her.” Authorities have since reviewed the CCTV footage, confirming that the child unexpectedly ran across the road as the car approached. The driver is set to be questioned further to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision. The girl’s body has been transported to the Institute of Forensic Science, as police continue their investigation to establish any additional contributing factors to the incident. -- 2025-01-15

The discovery was made by locals and reported to the police at 16:55 on January 14. Pol. Lt. Prakasit Paladetch, an investigator from Huai Yai Police Station, received the report and informed his superior, Pol. Col. Atthapol Ittayophasakul, before leading a team of officers and rescue volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation to the scene. Nearby, the removed license plates, numbered from Chonburi, were placed on the passenger seat along with a phone displaying the name “My Beloved Gig.” In the back of the cab, officers found a charcoal stove, its contents reduced to ash after the fire had burned out. Local resident Mr. Kamrai, who discovered the scene, told police that he noticed the truck parked in the area earlier in the morning, with someone sitting in the driver’s seat. Initially, he assumed the person was asleep. However, by evening, he observed the vehicle still parked in the same spot with the driver in the same position. The incident occurred on the Si Sakhon-Chanae road near Ban Air Gia Nae in Sri Banphot Subdistrict, Si Sakhon District, Narathiwat Province. At approximately 10:00 on January 14, Si Sakhon Police Station received reports of an explosion targeting a white pickup truck travelling along the road. It was later confirmed that the attack was followed by gunfire, causing the deaths of two individuals: 1. Police Lieutenant Colonel Suwit 56 – Principal of the Border Patrol Police School (BPP School) in Ban Tue Ngor, Sri Banphot Subdistrict, Narathiwat. 2. Police Senior Sergeant Major Dome 35 – Suwit’s son and also a Border Patrol officer at the same school. Initial investigations revealed that both officers had left the school in their personal pickup truck to purchase supplies in Ra-ngae District. However, en route, they were targeted by a roadside bomb planted by unknown assailants. The explosion damaged their vehicle, killing them instantly. Due to concerns about additional explosive devices, the Si Sakhon Police coordinated with the 49th Ranger Task Force to secure the area. Drones were deployed to survey the scene before officers and medical teams moved in to recover the bodies and examine the site. The tragedy has deeply affected the Ban Tue Ngor BPP School, where Suwit served as the principal, overseeing a team of 13 teachers and 120 students. Lt. Col. Suwit was a revered figure in his community. A former recipient of the prestigious Princess Maha Chakri Award for his dedication to education in remote and conflict-prone areas, Suwit had spent over two decades transforming the lives of underprivileged children. Suwit’s journey began as a student in a Border Patrol Police school in Phatthalung Province. Witnessing the sacrifices made by his teachers inspired him to follow in their footsteps. After becoming a teacher, he dedicated himself to improving access to education for children in the most underserved areas of Narathiwat. His efforts extended beyond the classroom, where he encouraged children to embrace self-sufficiency and moral values aligned with royal initiatives. In 2015, Suwit was honoured with the “Teacher of Excellence” award, highlighting his selfless contributions to the nation. His passing marks a great loss not only for his family and colleagues but also for the many lives he touched during his career. Authorities continue to investigate the attack, which underscores ongoing security challenges in the region. The Thai government has pledged to intensify efforts to ensure the safety of educators and residents in conflict-affected provinces. -- 2025-01-15

  13. Picture courtesy of Matichon A saxophonist has shared a cautionary tale after his hand was injured by a washing machine spinner, leading to the partial amputation of his finger. The incident highlights the dangers of operating household appliances without taking proper precautions. On 12 January, at approximately 20.00, 26-year-old Atthaphon Kankhuntod, a freelance saxophonist from Sung Noen, Nakhon Ratchasima, was performing household chores when he heard a loud banging noise coming from his semi-automatic washing machine. The sound, caused by clothes hitting the lid of the spin-drying drum, prompted him to intervene. Atthaphon turned off the machine and opened the lid while the drum was still spinning. Unfortunately, a bedsheet cord wrapped around his right index finger, pulling it into the drum for about five seconds. Upon freeing himself, he discovered a severe laceration and a fractured bone in his finger. He was rushed to Sung Noen Hospital and later transferred to Maharaj Hospital, where X-rays revealed tendon and nerve damage that could not be repaired. Doctors had no choice but to amputate the upper portion of his index finger. The washing machine involved had recently been repaired with a new motor, which was incompatible with its original stopping mechanism. As a result, the drum continued spinning even when the lid was opened, contrary to standard safety features. Speaking from his home, which doubles as a beauty salon, Atthaphon expressed his dismay: “As a musician, I rely on my fingers for my livelihood. I’ll need to relearn how to play with my remaining fingers. I want to urge others to ensure their appliances are functioning safely and to always wait for the drum to stop spinning before opening the lid.” -- 2025-01-15

The rescue team had to use a ladder to scale the wall of the house before pulling the man out to safety. The man explained that he had attempted to repair the faulty float switch inside the tank. However, after completing the repair, he found himself unable to climb out due to the tank’s height and its slippery interior. Despite his efforts to push himself upwards, he couldn’t escape. With only elderly family members and children in the house, he was unable to get assistance and eventually called for help. The man was unharmed, though shaken, after the rescue. -- 2025-01-15

  17. Picture from responders. A motorcyclist lost his life in the early hours of 14 January following a crash on Rojana Road in Ayutthaya. The crash occurred around kilometre marker 10 in Sam Ruean Subdistrict, Bang Pa-In District. Police Lieutenant Thaworn Saengsai, Deputy Investigator of Bang Pa-In Police Station, was notified of the incident at 05:00 and immediately dispatched officers to the scene, along with rescue personnel from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Foundation. At the scene, responders found the lifeless body of Mr. Alit aged 22, a resident of Bo Ta Lo Subdistrict, Wang Noi District, Ayutthaya. He was wearing a winter jacket and was lying on his back in the far-right lane near the central road divider. He had suffered a fatal head injury, and nearby, his black full-face helmet was found in the road, damaged from the impact. Approximately 50 metres away, a red Yamaha Fino motorcycle was discovered overturned in the middle of the road, with noticeable scratches on both sides. Mr. Panya Chumanee, a representative of the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Foundation, stated that the team had received a report from local residents about a motorcycle crash, leaving an unconscious man lying on the road. Eyewitnesses explained that the motorcyclist had collided with the central road divider. Although the victim was wearing a helmet, the force of the crash caused it to dislodge and ripped off, leaving his head vulnerable to the fatal impact with a tree and the divider. Police investigators identified a long scrape mark on the road and the central divider, along with scattered debris from the motorcycle. Preliminary findings suggest that the victim lost control of his motorcycle, hitting the road divider with significant force, which led to his helmet coming off. The victim’s body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Science at the Ministry of Justice in Pathum Thani for a thorough post-mortem examination. Authorities are working to contact the victim’s family so they can retrieve his body as the investigation continues. -- 2025-01-15

  19. Picture from responders. A 28-year-old man with a history of mental health issues went into a violent outburst at his home in Nakhon Ratchasima on 14 January, destroying property and claiming that people had been planting drugs at his house. The incident, which took place at a residence in the Samrong Chai area of Phimai district, prompted a call to the police. At approximately 11:10, local authorities were alerted to the disturbance. Upon arrival, officers from the Phimai Police Station, accompanied by a 191 patrol unit, found the man, later identified as Mr. Saranyu, standing shirtless and wearing shorts outside his house. Inside, he had been rampaging through the property, destroying items in a manic episode. The police were soon joined by his mother, Mrs. Tatsanee and several nearby residents, who attempted to calm the situation. Mr. Saranyu, speaking erratically, claimed that he had been living with his grandmother at the house, but that she was no longer there. He explained that a car parked near the house had been involved in an accident, with people blaming him for the incident. In a confused state, he ranted about being accused unjustly and insisted that people were planting drugs in his home. Mrs. Tatsanee explained that her son had been diagnosed with a mental illness and had a past history of drug abuse. Despite attempts to seek treatment for him, he had refused to visit doctors and often disposed of his medication by either throwing it away or dissolving it in water. During his recent outbursts, he had verbally lashed out, destroyed household items, and damaged a car parked outside, smashing its windows. Although Mr. Saranyu had never physically harmed anyone, his mother was concerned about his worsening condition and feared that the situation might escalate into a more dangerous incident. She pleaded for the police to intervene and help transport him to a medical facility for treatment, as she was unable to convince him to seek help on his own. In an effort to de-escalate the situation, officers managed to gain Mr. Saranyu’s trust by offering him a small amount of money to buy snacks. As the situation calmed, he continued to insist that people were planting drugs around his home and that he had never done anything wrong. After a prolonged period of negotiation, the authorities successfully managed to escort Mr. Saranyu to a hospital for treatment. -- 2025-01-15

  21. Picture from responders. An incident occurred on the morning of 14 January when a van overturned, killing a 24-year-old man instantly. The incident took place at around 07:00 on a four-lane road near Ban Bua Temple in Ban Bua Subdistrict, Mueang District, Buriram Province. Police Lieutenant Colonel Pornchai Bamrungsin, Deputy Inspector of Mueang Buriram Police Station, received the report and coordinated with the Sawang Janyatham Rescue Unit and Ban Bua Municipality Emergency Services to investigate the scene. At the site, a silver Toyota van (registration number from Rayong) was found overturned on the central reservation of the Nang Rong-Buriram inbound road. Two light poles were damaged, and the driver, identified as Mr. Athiwat Kankanram, 24, from Prakhieab Subdistrict, Ku Muang District, Buriram, was found lifeless near the van. He had sustained a severe head injury and died at the scene. Mr. Phanuwat Tuakphan, 30, from Tha Sawang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Surin, was a passenger in the van and recounted the events leading up to the crash. He stated that he, the deceased, and another team member had been instructed by their employer, a car dealership owner in Satuek District, Buriram, to retrieve two vans from Chonburi. One van was operational, while the other required towing. The team departed Buriram on the evening of 13 January, arriving in Chonburi at around 01:00 on 14 January. After securing the non-operational van onto a tow truck, Mr. Athiwat drove the second van while Mr. Phanuwat rested in the back seat. According to Mr. Phanuwat, he was asleep and unaware of the crash until he was jolted awake by a loud impact and the van rolling over. When the vehicle came to a stop, he crawled out and discovered Mr. Athiwat lying outside the van, bleeding heavily. Emergency services arrived shortly afterwards. Preliminary investigations suggest that fatigue may have been a factor, as Mr. Athiwat had not slept the previous night and is believed to have dozed off at the wheel. Additionally, he was not wearing a seatbelt, which may have caused him to be ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to confirm the exact cause of the crash. -- 2025-01-15

  23. Picture from responders. A 28-year-old woman, overwhelmed by financial stress after losing 4 million baht in a failed investment, tragically took her own life on January 13. The incident occurred at a townhouse in Soi Phibulsongkhram 22, Sai 6, Suan Yai sub-district, Mueang Nonthaburi district. Pol Lt Chaiyong Aunmahong, Deputy Inspector of Mueang Nonthaburi Police Station, along with forensic doctors and Ruamkatanyu Foundation personnel, arrived at the scene to investigate. The deceased, identified as Ms. Jirapach (nickname "Nim"), was found in the kitchen at the back of her two-story townhouse. She had used a red nylon rope to hang herself from the kitchen beam. Dressed in a black t-shirt and red trousers, her body was discovered alongside a ladder, believed to have been used to secure the rope before taking her own life. A handwritten note was found at the scene, reading: "I'm sorry, but I can't go on anymore. Please forgive my family and do not hold them accountable. There's no need to spend money on my body. Just cremate me." Relatives revealed that Ms. Jirapach, the owner of a nail salon in Bangkok, had invested heavily in the Forex-3D scheme, using her savings and borrowing from informal lenders to amass 4 million baht. Initially, the returns seemed promising, but when pressured by representatives to invest more, she borrowed an additional 1.5 million baht from her South Korean husband. Ultimately, the investment collapsed, leaving her with mounting debts and no way to recover her funds. Her stress and financial troubles were evident to those around her, with relatives reporting that she frequently spoke of wanting to end her life. A neighbour also noted that they often heard her crying late at night but were unaware of the extent of her struggles. Investigators suspect that the victim's financial distress, coupled with concerns about her family being impacted by her debts, led to her tragic decision. Her mother, currently travelling from Sakon Nakhon, is expected to arrive and to claim the body and arrange funeral rites.
