Picture of the arrests. In a crack down operation on January 10, Pattaya Police raided an illegal gambling group on Jomtien Beach, arresting six individuals, including both Thai nationals and Cambodians, who were openly gambling in a dice game on the beach, in a blatant disregard for the law. The raid, led by Police Colonel Navin Thiravit, Commander of Pattaya Police Station, came after a tip-off regarding a group of people engaging in illegal gambling activities at the entrance to Soi 12 on Jomtien Beach Road, Chonburi province. Upon receiving the information, Police Lieutenant Colonel Sirachat Nuteth, Deputy Commander of Pattaya Police Station, organised a surveillance operation, deploying undercover officers to gather evidence. The officers found nearly ten people, both men and women, openly gambling, rolling dice game for money in public on the beach. The group was also disrupting the peaceful atmosphere, creating a nuisance for tourists. When the police moved in, the gamblers fled in all directions, but authorities were able to apprehend six suspects: three Thai nationals and three Cambodian nationals, but some of the gamblers managed to escape. Police seized a quantity of cash and one mobile phone, which was being used for dice gambling via an online application. The arrested individuals were charged with illegal gambling and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. Police are continuing their investigations and will take further legal action as necessary. -- 2025-01-11

Tiger Rescued After Three-Day Operation by Park Officials and Vets A three-day rescue mission to save an injured female tiger from a snare in Huai Kha Khaeng forest has been successfully completed. Picture courtesy of Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation A three-day rescue mission to save an injured female tiger from a snare in Huai Kha Khaeng forest has been successfully completed. The operation, led by park officials and veterinary experts, highlights the dangers of wildlife poaching and the ongoing challenges of conservation efforts. Chutidet Kamonchanut, Director of Protected Area Regional Office 3 (Ban Pong), revealed details of the mission, which focused on the tiger trapped in the Pu Toei Forest Reserve. The operation began after local rangers discovered signs of the tiger, including its tracks and hearing growls, on 8 January. A multidisciplinary team was deployed, including staff from Pu Toei National Park, veterinarians from the regional office, and personnel from wildlife rescue centres in Khao Prathap Chang and Bueng Chawak. By 18:30 that evening, search efforts involving drones and ground teams located the tiger resting in a dense grass-covered ravine. The animal, estimated to be a seven-year-old female, was injured on its front right paw, ensnared by a steel wire trap. Veterinary teams sedated the tiger using tranquiliser darts before cutting away the wire, cleaning the wound, and administering antibiotics, fluids, and vitamins. The tiger was then transported to the Pu Toei National Park headquarters for further care. After recovering from sedation and showing signs of stability, the tiger was transferred to the Bueng Chawak Wildlife Rescue Centre for specialised treatment later that night. Throughout the journey, two veterinarians closely monitored its condition to ensure its safety. Chutidet noted that the tiger’s presence outside Huai Kha Khaeng demonstrates the ecological connectivity of Western Thailand’s forest corridors. However, he emphasised the threats posed by illegal snares, which remain a critical issue in wildlife conservation. He pledged ongoing monitoring and expert care to rehabilitate the tiger so it can eventually be released back into the wild. The rescue serves as both a testament to the dedication of Thailand’s conservation teams and a stark reminder of the dangers faced by its endangered wildlife. -- 2025-01-11

Police, forensic officers, and rescue teams arrived at the residence, where they discovered the body of 43-year-old Ms. Dao Phasuk Nawi. Ms. Nawi had been shot with a revolver, the bullet striking her abdomen and exiting through her back, while another shot hit her right arm and exited through the left side of her chest. She was found lying on a mattress in the living room of her home. A bullet shell was recovered from the scene and kept as evidence. The suspected shooter, 36-year-old Mr. Yusob Bin La, fled the scene on his white Honda Wave motorcycle after the incident. Initial investigations revealed a history of domestic disputes between the couple. Mr. Yusob was known to have a drug addiction, and authorities indicated that when under the influence of drugs, he often became irritable and violent towards his wife. The couple had frequently argued, and the latest conflict occurred shortly after Mr. Yusob returned home the previous day. It is believed that after another heated argument, Mr. Yusob shot his wife, resulting in her death, before fleeing the scene. Authorities are currently searching for Mr. Yusob, and a manhunt is underway. -- 2025-01-11

Picture from responders. At approximately 10:30 on 10 January, a road traffic collision occurred at the Phalad Intersection in Phra Bat subdistrict, Mueang Lampang district. A six-wheeled truck driver, carrying steel lost control, overturned, and crashed into a car waiting at a red light, resulting in multiple injuries. Emergency response teams, including rescue units from Lampang Hospital, the Lampang Rescue Association, and officers from Mueang Lampang Police Station, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the overturned six-wheeled Hino truck, registered in Lampang, with its load of steel beams scattered across the road. The crash caused extensive damage, including oil leaking and debris strewn over the area, as well as a broken utility pole blocking the road. Three people from the truck were found injured at the scene: 1. A man, 45 years old, who was the truck driver, was thrown from the vehicle and found on the central reservation. He suffered facial injuries. 2. Mr. Kornwich Kanthana, 30, who had been sitting in the middle seat, was conscious but sustained facial injuries, a head wound, and complained of arm pain. 3. Mr. Anusak Wongkaenchan, 32, the passenger seated by the door, suffered abrasions, a head wound, and back pain. All three injured individuals were promptly transported to Lampang Hospital for emergency treatment. The truck also collided with a black Mazda car registered in Bangkok, causing significant damage to the front of the car. The driver of the car stated that they had been stationary at a red light when the truck suddenly crashed into them. Fortunately, the driver escaped uninjured but remained visibly shaken by the incident. Preliminary investigations suggest the truck had been travelling downhill from Doi Phra Bat towards Mae Mo district when its brakes failed. This caused the driver to lose control, veer off course, hit a utility pole, and crash into the car. Lampang police officers examined the scene and the investigation is ongoing, to determine the precise cause of the incident. -- 2025-01-11

Picture and video courtesy of Phuketinsta telegram channel. An incident has claimed the life of a 31-year-old parasailing operator off Karon Beach in Phuket. The operator, identified as Mr. Pathompong, fell from a height of 50 metres while assisting a tourist in a parasailing activity. The incident, which occurred on the evening of 5 January, has raised serious safety concerns surrounding the activity. A video clip, approximately 25 seconds in length, captured by a tourist, shows the moment the parasail was launched into the sky. According to witnesses, strong winds caused the operator to lose his grip and fall from the parasail, hitting the water with great force. Reports indicate that Mr. Pathompong suffered severe injuries and was bleeding from the mouth and nose when rescued. Efforts to save him were immediate, with the parasailing team taking him to a nearby hospital in a tuk-tuk after an ambulance failed to arrive in time. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries en route to Chalong Hospital. This incident is not the first of its kind. Sources revealed that the same operator had fallen from a parasail on multiple occasions before. Following this latest incident, the parasailing company, reportedly linked to a local political group in Karon, has compensated the deceased’s family with 50,000 baht to assist with funeral arrangements. Local authorities, including representatives from the Phuket Office of Tourism and Sports, the Karon Municipality, and Karon Police, have launched a joint investigation into the incident. A safety review of parasailing operations at Karon Beach is also underway. Phuket MP Chalermpong Saengdee has called for a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the incident. Speaking to the press, he stated that relevant agencies have been tasked with proposing new safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The MP is expected to visit Karon Beach on 11 January to inspect the site and discuss safety protocols with parasailing operators. -- 2025-01-11 Caution video shows the man falling. Picture from responders. In the early hours of 10 January, Pol. Col. Sophon Mongkolsophonrat, Superintendent of Bang Sao Thong Police Station, along with forensic officers and the Poh Teck Tung Foundation rescue team, responded to a report of a man found dead in a pickup truck in Bang Sao Thong, Samut Prakan. The incident occurred on a roadside in a community near the Saothong Klang intersection, adjacent to Bang Na Garden Soi 7. At the scene, police discovered a silver Toyota pickup truck with a sticker advertising emergency transformer repair services on the windshield. The driver's side door was open. Inside, the lifeless body of Mr. Thammarong, aged 51, a resident of Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan, was found in the driver's seat. He was slumped against the backrest, with blood spattered on the door and dashboard. A physical examination revealed a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest. A locally-made short-barrelled shotgun was found on the ground beside the driver's door. Police collected gunpowder residue and other evidence for forensic analysis before transferring the body to the forensic unit at Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute for an autopsy. Preliminary investigations suggest the man took his own life. However, authorities plan to interview the deceased's family to determine the circumstances leading to the incident. CCTV footage from the area showed the Toyota pickup driving from the Saothong Land area and turning onto the road at 04:19. It parked by the roadside at 04:27. Shortly after, the driver's door opened, and officers believe the man took his own life at this time. The footage showed no other vehicles or individuals in the vicinity during the incident. It wasn't until over an hour later that early commuters began passing through the area. A motorcyclist discovered the scene and immediately alerted police early this morning. Further investigations are ongoing. Picture from responders. A construction worker has been seriously injured after being trapped by a trench collapse at Sri Racha-Nong Kho Road, Nong Kham Subdistrict, Sri Racha District, Chonburi. The incident took place near Wat Nong Kho, where a large section of earth slid down, burying the man from the waist down. His chest was also struck by a metal pipe during the collapse. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after the collapse occurred. A rescue team from the Phuea Yieng Thai organisation arrived to assist the victim, who was identified as a 44-year-old male. His colleagues at the site had already begun digging to free him before the rescuers arrived. Despite the efforts to lift the earth, the man was reported to be experiencing severe chest tightness, prompting his immediate treatment by medics. After administering initial first aid to stabilise the worker, he was eventually dug out by hand, taking about 30 minutes and transported to Phyathai Sriracha Hospital, for further medical attention. His condition was described as stable. Local authorities, including the Nong Kham Police Station, have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the trench collapse, and it is initially believed that the collapse may have been caused by unstable soil in the area and lack of adequate shoring of the trench or angle of trench sides, to cope with this type of soil conditions. -- 2025-01-11

Picture from responders. A crash claimed the life of a 51-year-old lorry driver when his vehicle collided with the rear of a stationary trailer truck on the Asian Highway in Chainat Province during the early hours of 10 January. The crash occurred between kilometre markers 131-132 on the northbound side of Highway 32, in Suea Hok Subdistrict, Mueang District. Police from Mueang Chainat Police Station, rescue teams from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation, and medical staff from Chainat Narenthorn Hospital responded to the incident. At the scene, authorities discovered the lifeless body of the driver, identified as Mr. Wanchai, a resident of Chachoengsao Province. He was found trapped in the driver’s seat of his 10-wheel lorry, which had been crushed against the rear of the trailer truck. The trailer, which was not carrying any cargo, had been parked on the roadside due to a mechanical issue. Rescue teams used hydraulic cutting tools to extricate Mr. Wanchai’s body but struggled for over 25 minutes as the two vehicles were tightly wedged together. A second truck was eventually used to pull the vehicles apart, allowing the recovery of the deceased. A preliminary medical examination revealed severe injuries, including shattered legs, with the left leg nearly severed, and multiple wounds caused by the impact. The trailer truck’s driver, Mr. Phongsakorn, recounted that his vehicle had broken down, prompting him to park by the roadside while waiting for a mechanic. He said he was resting in the cab when the collision violently shook his truck and sent it skidding over 10 metres. Upon exiting the vehicle, he discovered the 10-wheel lorry had crashed into the rear of his trailer and immediately contacted the authorities. Police have detained Mr. Phongsakorn for further questioning to determine whether the trailer was parked safely with adequate warning signals, or if negligence contributed to the fatal collision. Investigators are reviewing the evidence to decide on appropriate charges. -- 2025-01-11

Man in Drug-Fuelled Rage Tries to Strangles Mother and Nephew in Sa Kaeo A 36-year-old man, in an apparent drug-induced frenzy, assaulted his own mother and nephew, leaving both with injuries before being restrained and taken to hospital. Picture from responders. A 36-year-old man, in an apparent drug-induced frenzy, assaulted his own mother and nephew, leaving both with injuries before being restrained and taken to hospital. The incident occurred in Moo 19, Ban Noen Siam, Phra Phloeng Subdistrict, Khao Chakan District, Sa Kaeo Province. On 9 January, local officials, led by Phra Phloeng Subdistrict Chief Somchai Thayai and the special task force "Team Moo Loom," responded to reports of a man behaving erratically in a drug-fuelled rage. The assailant, identified as Mr. Phet, allegedly failed to recognise his mother before attacking her and his nephew, choking both. Village headman Mr. Surasak Pinsantia and administrative officers arrived at the scene and managed to restrain Mr. Phet, who displayed uncontrollable behaviour. Shortly after being subdued, he experienced convulsions and was rushed to Khao Chakan Hospital. Meanwhile, his mother and nephew were treated for injuries sustained during the attack. Phra Phloeng Subdistrict Chief Somchai stated that “the root cause of this violent outburst was drug addiction, which severely affects the brain and mental state, leading to depression, anxiety, and erratic behaviour. Prolonged drug use deteriorates physical and mental health, impairs motor skills, and poses a threat to the individual and those around them”. "This is another tragic example of the devastating impact of drug abuse," Mr. Somchai said. "We are intensifying efforts to combat drug addiction and provide treatment for users in line with the government's policies on public safety and rehabilitation." Mr. Phet and his mother remain under observation and care at Khao Chakan Hospital, while authorities continue their investigation into the incident. -- 2025-01-11

Python Sunbathes on Temple Wall, Prompting Lottery Fever Among Locals A large reticulated python was discovered basking on the wall of Wat Thung Sadaeng in Phetchabun Province, causing a stir among residents and sparking a wave of lottery fever. The snake, approximately 2.5 metres long, appeared unusually large around its midsection, prompting speculation it had recently devoured a sizeable meal. Picture and video from responders. A large reticulated python was discovered basking on the wall of Wat Thung Sadaeng in Phetchabun Province, causing a stir among residents and sparking a wave of lottery fever. The snake, approximately 2.5 metres long, appeared unusually large around its midsection, prompting speculation it had recently devoured a sizeable meal. The incident was brought to public attention when a Facebook user posted a video with the caption: “It’s a big one. The rescue team is relocating it to the wild.” The footage captured local disaster prevention officials carefully capturing the snake to release it back into its natural habitat. The video attracted a flurry of comments, with one user noting, “It’s huge! If I saw it at night, I’d have reversed my car in panic,” while another added, “There’s another one nearby, according to Uncle Jit!” Speculation also circulated about the snake’s bulging abdomen, with some suggesting it had consumed a large animal. Kittisak Sangketdee, a member of the Phetchabun municipal council, confirmed that he received reports from locals about the snake sunbathing on the temple’s wall. Upon inspection, he found the reticulated python with its noticeably swollen belly. Officials used a snake catcher pole to carefully remove the snake and attempted to place it in a fertiliser sack. However, the sack proved too small, forcing the team to lift the snake onto a pickup truck for transportation to the wild, a process they described as “rather cumbersome.” The discovery of the python also caught the attention of lottery enthusiasts, who seized the opportunity to speculate on “lucky numbers.” Many zeroed in on the temple’s address, 716, as a potential winner. Kittisak revealed that the snake had been spotted earlier on the night of 7 January, crossing from behind Wat Thung Sadaeng School towards the temple grounds. Although residents were warned to stay alert, the snake evaded capture until it was seen basking in the sun. Officials have since relocated the snake to a safe, natural environment, ensuring the safety of both locals and wildlife. Meanwhile, residents remain hopeful that their newfound “guardian” might bring them luck in the upcoming lottery draw. -- 2025-01-11 ScreenRecording_01-10-2025 10-48-48_1.mp4

Picture captured from CCTV below. Several elderly passengers sustained injuries after a car crashed into the back of a pickup truck carrying a group of religious followers returning from a ceremony honouring revered monk Kruba Boonchum. The crash occurred at the San Khong intersection in Mae Chan District, Chiang Rai, with CCTV capturing the moment of the collision. Police from Mae Chan Police Station responded to the incident, which involved three vehicles. A white Chevrolet Colorado pickup, carrying five elderly passengers in its truck bed, was struck from behind by a white Honda car. The impact caused the passengers to be thrown onto the road, with some landing under the vehicles. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported. The followers were returning from a religious ceremony at Wat Wiang Kaew in Chiang Saen District, marking the final day of the event. As the pickup truck slowed to turn right into a village road in Moo 10, Pa Tueng Subdistrict, it was hit by the Honda, which pushed the vehicle into another pickup in front. Rescue teams from Thap Yang were dispatched to the scene and promptly transported the injured to Mae Chan Hospital. Police revealed that the driver of the Honda, an elderly man, admitted that he was attempting to swerve to avoid a passing dirt truck when sunlight blinded him, preventing him from noticing the stationary vehicles ahead. As a result, he collided with the Chevrolet, causing damage to all three vehicles. The insurance provider for the Honda has agreed to cover the damages and medical expenses for all those affected. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure appropriate follow-up actions are taken. -- 2025-01-11 ScreenRecording_01-10-2025 17-54-41_1.mp4
