  2. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 57-year-old Swiss man, whose name has been withheld, passed away after suffering a sudden medical emergency while riding his motorcycle in South Pattaya on the afternoon of January 8. The incident took place on the entrance to Soi Buakhao, from South Pattaya Road, as the man was on his way to pick up his young son, aged 5, from Wat Chai Mongkol Kindergarten. According to witnesses, the man seemly lost consciousness while riding, causing his motorcycle to fall and make minor contact with a local songthaew, baht bus. Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation arrived promptly at the scene and administered CPR. Despite their best efforts and further treatment at Pattaya City Hospital, the man was later pronounced dead. A 48-year-old woman, Ms Sangwan Niyomchat, who serves as the boy’s caregiver, waited outside the emergency room with the child for news of the man’s condition. She shared that the Swiss national had returned to Thailand just two months ago. “He loved his son very much,” Ms Sangwan said. “The boy was born to his former Thai partner, with whom he had separated. Whenever he was in Thailand, he always looked after his son and picked him up from school.” Preliminary reports indicate that the man’s death was likely caused by a sudden medical issue, rather than injuries sustained in the minor collision. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. -- 2025-01-09

  6. Picture from responders A horrifying incident occurred in the early hours of January 8th, when a 68-year-old man was brutally murdered by his drug-addicted son-in-law at his rented home in Tha Ruea, Nakhon Si Thammarat. The victim, identified as Mr. Uthai, was found in the kitchen with his throat slashed in a violent attack. The police, led by Lieutenant Colonel Phuwasit Nakkeerket from the Chamuang Police Station, responded to the scene, where they discovered the body. Medical staff and rescue workers from the Tai Tek Tueng Foundation also attended the scene. The victim's throat had been severely cut with a sharp object, and there was a significant amount of blood in the room. Initial investigations revealed that the perpetrator was 35-year- old Mr. Kratchitphon, the victim's son-in-law, who had been struggling with severe drug addiction. His wife had fallen into a state of depression due to his behaviour and was recently admitted to the hospital for treatment. On the previous day, Mr. Kratchitphon had caused a disturbance at the hospital while his wife was being treated, and his erratic behaviour had escalated. At around 02:00, neighbours reported hearing Mr. Kratchitphon's car pull up to the house. He called for his father-in-law to open the door, claiming he was there to take a cat. Once Mr. Uthai opened the door, a loud argument ensued before the noise suddenly stopped. Moments later, Mr. Kratchitphon quickly drove away. It wasn't until the morning that family members arrived and, upon receiving no response from Mr. Uthai, broke into the house to find him lifeless, with his throat slit. Mr. Uthai's wife, Mrs. Boonjung, explained that she had been at the hospital with their daughter the previous evening and knew about her son-in-law's drug problems. Fearing he might attack, she decided to stay elsewhere that night, but her husband refused to leave and stayed alone in the house. Tragically, Mr. Uthai became the victim of his son-in-law's violent outburst. After the attack, Mr. Kratchitphon fled to his parents' home about 7 km away. His parents, likely aware of the crime, contacted the police to report the situation. However, by the time officers arrived, he had already escaped. The police later tracked him to the Maharat Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for a wound sustained during the crime. He was arrested at 09:00 on January 8th. Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the brutal attack and are focusing on Mr. Kratchitphon's drug addiction as a possible contributing factor to his violent behaviour. -- 2025-01-09

  8. Picture from responders. A forest fire that broke out in the Dong Phaya Yen area, Nakhon Ratchasima, has ravaged approximately 100 rai of national forest reserve. Authorities suspect the blaze, the third in the region this year, was started by individuals setting fires to hunt wildlife. The fire ignited on the afternoon of 7 January in the forested area behind Khao Loi Resort, Phaya Yen Subdistrict, Pak Chong District. Despite immediate efforts to control the flames, the rugged terrain with steep slopes and loose rocks made firefighting operations hazardous. Crews had to temporarily withdraw at midnight to reassess and ensure their safety before resuming efforts on the morning of January 8. Led by Mr. Thepnoorat Sonsungnoen, a forestry officer, and supported by local officials including Ms. Chanchira Chomphupan from the Phaya Yen Subdistrict Administrative Organisation and the Thai Disaster Response Association (Khao Yai Division), firefighting teams worked tirelessly to contain the blaze. By 10.00 on 8 January, they had successfully brought the fire under control. The fire was first reported at approximately 14:00 on 7 January by the village head of Ban Sok Luk Phatthana, Moo 9, Phaya Yen Subdistrict. The blaze quickly spread across the Kaosie Dao Forest Reserve, threatening nearby areas, including Khao Loi Resort. According to reports from the Northeastern Forest Fire Control Centre No. 3, this is the third forest fire in the area since the beginning of 2025. On 3 January, a fire at the edge of the forest behind Wat Udom Suk, Moo 7, Phaya Yen Subdistrict, damaged over 200 rai of forest. A second fire occurred on 5 January in the Huakrok area, Moo 7, Phaya Yen Subdistrict, destroying 41 rai. Investigators suspect all three incidents were caused by hunters setting fires to flush out wildlife, with evidence including spent bullet casings found at one of the scenes. Local officials, working with the authorities, are now intensifying efforts to locate and prosecute those responsible for these fires. They have urged the public to report suspicious activity to prevent further devastation to the region’s forests. -- 2025-01-09

  10. Pictures from responders. A multi-vehicle crash occurred early morning on January 8, on the Uthai-Phachi Road near the Rojana Industrial Estate Gate C in Uthai District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The collision at 06.10, involved a workers transport bus, a pickup truck, and a private car. All three vehicles sustained damage, with the pickup truck suffering the most severe impact. The truck’s left hand side body of the cab was torn open, exposing its chassis. Remarkably, the male driver of the pickup truck sustained only minor injuries, a laceration to his chin, and was able to climb out of the damaged vehicle cab unaided. Rescuers from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Rescue Unit provided first aid at the scene before transporting the injured man to a nearby hospital for further examination and a few stitches. The bus was full of passengers on their way to their workplace and there were no reported injuries. The car driver also did not require any medical attention. The scene of the crash falls under the jurisdiction of the local police station, which is now investigating the cause of the crash, in viewing witnesses and reviewing CCTV and dash-cam footage. Initial investigation suggests that all vehicles were traveling in the same direction and the pickup travelling at speed struck the rear of the slower moving bus and was spun around and struck by the following car. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, particularly on busy routes near industrial zones, where heavy traffic and high speeds can increase the likelihood of crashes. -- 2025-01-09

  12. Picture from responders. A police sergeant suffering from depression tragically took his own life in front of colleagues and a supervisor at Samko Police Station on January 8. The incident occurred around noon near the station's accommodation area in Samko Subdistrict, Samko District. Police and rescue personnel responded to the scene, where they found the victim, a 33-year-old police sergeant working in the administrative division of Samko Police Station, lying in a pool of blood. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the right temple, with the bullet exiting through the left side of his head. Despite being rushed to Samko Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. At the scene, investigators found a 9mm Glock 19 pistol, along with an open can of alcohol. The firearm and other evidence were collected for forensic examination. Witnesses revealed that earlier in the morning, the sergeant had been drinking beer while seated near the accommodation area and was seen walking back and forth with the pistol in hand. At one point, he fired a shot into a drainage canal, prompting his colleagues to intervene. They attempted to calm him and called in a supervisor for assistance. During the conversation, the sergeant appeared increasingly distressed. To the shock of those present, he suddenly raised the pistol to his temple and fired a single fatal shot. Efforts to save his life proved unsuccessful, and his supervisor, who witnessed the incident, was left in shock and required medical attention. Pol. Col. Kantapon Thanatippinsakul, Superintendent of Samko Police Station, stated that the sergeant was known as a diligent officer but had been battling depression and was undergoing treatment at Samko Hospital. Colleagues reported no warning signs or unusual behaviour prior to the tragedy. Authorities have collected evidence from the scene and will send the body to the Institute of Forensic Medicine. The sergeant's family has been notified and will be interviewed to determine any underlying factors that may have led to the incident. 14. Picture from responders. At approximately 21:30 on 7 January 2025, a fire broke out at Samut Sakhon Natural Clean Energy Co., Ltd., located at 65/1 Moo 3, Bang Thorat Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon Province. The facility specialises in sorting municipal solid waste for recycling and disposal. The fire erupted inside one of the facility’s four warehouses, covering an area of approximately two rai. Firefighters from Bang Thorat Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO), along with support from nearby areas, dispatched over 20 fire engines to tackle the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the other three warehouses. A large water reservoir adjacent to the factory proved instrumental as a suitable and adequate water supply, in the firefighting efforts. After several hours of efforts, the fire was brought under control. Samut Sakhon Governor Narit Niramaivong, Mueang District Chief Rattanapan Thueksakul, and Anutat Pangputhipong, Head of the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, were on site to oversee operations. Preliminary investigations led by Pol. Sub. Lt. Tanachot Laopoonphon from Bang Thorat Police Station revealed that the fire likely started due to excessive heat build up, caused by the compression of waste piles. A foreign worker at the facility reported that no one else. was present in the warehouse at the time of the incident. The worker, responsible for loading waste onto conveyor belts, stated that the fire began as a small blaze but quickly escalated within five minutes, prompting an urgent call for emergency services. The affected warehouse housed unprocessed municipal waste awaiting sorting. Damage was confined to the building, conveyor machinery, and waste piles. Authorities will now collaborate with forensic investigators from the Samut Sakhon Provincial Police to determine the exact cause of the fire. Samut Sakhon Natural Clean Energy Co., Ltd. operates as a municipal waste sorting and recycling business, producing compacted waste bales for sale to industries or disposal facilities. The company sends non-recyclable waste to authorised disposal sites in compliance with legal regulations. -- 2025-01-09

  16. Picture from responders. An undercover informant working for law enforcement was shot dead in a brutal attack on the night of January 7, in a suspected act of retaliation by a drug network. The victim, identified as Mr. Kolawit, 25, was ambushed and killed along a roadside in Moo 8, Phla Subdistrict, Khlong Thom District. Authorities reported that the attackers used a military-grade firearm to carry out the assault, shooting the victim at close range. Police recovered 16 bullet casings and two bullets at the scene, a road through a rubber plantation. At approximately noon on January 8, Krabi law enforcement officials, including Pol. Col. Pisanu Achchanapornkul and Pol. Col. Chavalit Phetsripia, conducted a thorough inspection of the crime scene. Evidence suggested that the victim may have been lured to the location via a phone call. Investigators believe Mr. Kolawit stopped his motorbike at the site, as indicated by a cigarette butt found near his body. The investigation revealed that the victim had earlier visited a makeshift shelter in a rubber plantation approximately 500 metres away from the site of the shooting. No additional evidence was discovered at that location. Preliminary police findings suggest the attackers were members of a drug network seeking revenge against the victim for his role as an informant. Officers are now reviewing CCTV footage from near the area to track the suspects and bring them to justice. Mrs. Surin Sutthikerd, the assistant village head of Moo 8, recounted hearing gunfire from her nearby home around 22:00. Her son alerted her after hearing a rapid succession of shots from the plantation. "I heard more than ten gunshots in quick succession. When I arrived at the scene, I found him already dead," she said. Mrs. Surin described the victim as someone not particularly law- abiding, with a history of possible involvement in illegal activities, though he was not known to have conflicts with others in the village. The police investigation is ongoing as authorities work to apprehend those responsible for this violent crime. -- 2025-01-09

  20. Picture from responders. A strange occurrence claimed the life of a 42-year-old man after he fell from his bed and sustained fatal burns while sleeping near a fire lit for warmth. The incident occurred in Nong Kathin Village, Si Suk Subdistrict, Sri Narong District, and was reported early on the morning of 8 January. Responding to the call, members of the Surin News Association’s Disaster Relief Department, medical examiners from Sri Narong Hospital, and officers from Sri Narong Police Station attended the scene. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the man lying face down in the remains of the fire. He was wearing a long-sleeved blue shirt, and his face and head showed severe burn injuries. His legs were still resting on the bed, indicating that he had fallen off while asleep and his body had no other visible injuries. Relatives confirmed that the deceased had no underlying health conditions, but did drink and expressed no suspicions surrounding his death. It is believed that the man, like many others in rural areas during the cold season, had lit a fire to stay warm during the night, as he slept outdoors. Unfortunately, this common practice appears to have resulted in his death. The body was sent to hospital for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death and will be released to the family if no suspicious circumstances are found. Authorities are reminding the public of the dangers of using open flames for heating during the winter months. They urge residents to ensure fires are either extinguished or in a safe location, before sleeping and to take precautions to avoid similar incidents. -- 2025-01-09

  22. Picture of dog from responders. An incident occurred in a village in Saraburi province, where an elderly man was killed after being attacked by his own dog. The attack took place at the man's home in the Dinso Pong community, Tambon Thap Kwang, Kaeng Khoi district, with the body discovered at approximately 08.00 on January 8th. Authorities from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation responded to the scene, where they discovered signs of a violent struggle. Blood stains were found scattered across the ground beneath the wooden house, with belongings in disarray. A male mixed breed dog, reported as a cross between a Thai breed and a Pitbull, was found chained up at the scene, barking loudly. The victim, 84-year-old Khun Tee, was found lying lifeless on the floor under the house, in front of a bathroom. His right arm had been severely maimed, with flesh completely torn away and missing, leaving only bone, from the elbow to the wrist. The left arm had numerous bite marks, suggesting the dog had attacked him viciously. A pool of dried blood covered his body, indicating the attack had taken place some time before the body was discovered. Emergency services took the body to Kaeng Khoi Hospital for an initial examination before sending it to the Forensic Institute in Nakhon Nayok for further investigation to confirm the cause of death. The victim's son, 52-year-old Prayong, explained that the dog, named "Ja Dam," was a beloved pet that his father had raised from a young age. The five-year-old dog had been living with his father and older brother, who has autism, for several years. Prayong, who lives in a separate house, was unaware of when the dog attacked his father. However, upon seeing the condition of his father's body, he speculated that the dog may have bitten his father's arm and dragged him across the floor. He also suggested that the dog might have been stressed, as it had been chained for an extended period. Local volunteer rescuer, Atchara, expressed concern over the missing parts of the victim's arm, unsure whether the dog had eaten it or discarded it elsewhere. The victim's daughter, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that she discovered her father's body in the morning, already in a lifeless state, lying on his side. She mentioned that her father had always cared for the dog, which had been with him since it was a puppy. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. -- 2025-01-09
