Picture from responders. Police officers from Pho Klang Police Station received a report at approximately 09.15 on December 17, of a motorcycle crashing into the back of a truck near the Mittraphap Pattana intersection, within the Nakhon Ratchasima Municipality, Mueang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Authorities immediately responded to the scene alongside rescue volunteers from Hook 31 Korat. The crash occurred on Liab Nakhon Road, near the railway crossing leading to Wat Lak Roi. At the scene, a black Yamaha Fino motorcycle, registered in Nakhon Ratchasima, was found wedged at the rear of a six-wheeled truck. The motorcyclist, identified as Mr. Somporn aged 57, was trapped beneath the truck’s right rear. Initial examination found no vital signs, and he had multiple fractures and severe injuries. Rescue personnel used cutting tools to extract the body, which was then sent to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital for further forensic examination. Mr. Nattapong aged 36, the truck driver, explained that he had parked the vehicle alongside the road to purchase a mobile phone top-up card at a nearby convenience store. While he was pulling the truck back onto the road, Mr. Somporn, who was riding his motorcycle alone, lost control and crashed into the rear of the truck. Mr. Nattapong said he initially thought cargo had fallen from the truck due to the loud noise but discovered it was a crash upon inspection. He promptly notified the authorities. Eyewitnesses reported that they saw the truck parked with its hazard lights on while the driver entered the store. As the truck began to move, the motorcycle approached at high speed from under the Si Ma Thani overpass, heading towards Ban Mai Subdistrict. The motorcycle collided with the rear of the truck, and witnesses heard Mr. Somporn crying for help. Locals tried to assist but found him trapped, prompting a call for emergency services. Tragically, Mr. Somporn succumbed to his injuries before further help could arrive. Authorities will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident. -- 2024-12-18

Picture from responders. A horrifying incident unfolded in Khao Phanom district, Krabi province, where a 42-year-old man killed his teenage sister-in-law in a drug-fueled attack. The suspect confessed to the brutal murder, claiming no prior conflict, leading authorities to believe he acted under the influence of methamphetamine. At approximately 13:30 on December 17, Pol. Lt. Adinan Modchot, investigator at Khao Phanom Police Station, received a report of a murder at a rented house in Moo 4, Khao Phanom subdistrict. Accompanied by Pol. Lt. Col. Kittisak Sommat, police investigators, forensic officers, rescue workers, and medical personnel, the team quickly arrived at the scene. In the kitchen area, the body of Miss Butsaya "Mook", 15, a resident of Krabi, was discovered lying lifeless in a pool of blood. The victim had suffered a deep slash to her throat, nearly severing it, and additional stab wounds to the head and behind her right ear. A sharp kitchen knife was found in the sink, recently washed of blood. Authorities collected the weapon as evidence. The suspect, identified as Mr. Dolkanee "Bang Nee," 42, was found calmly sitting at the scene alongside his brother, Mr. Arun "Bang Bish," 37, who is also the victim's boyfriend and the suspect's younger brother. Both adult men were taken into custody for questioning. During police interrogation, Bang Nee confessed to the killing. He admitted to consuming two methamphetamine pills earlier in the day, claiming he experienced hallucinations at the time of the incident. Bang Nee stated that he had no prior dispute with the victim but was overcome with an impulse when he saw her standing alone in the kitchen. He approached from behind, restrained her, and slit her throat. Urine tests confirmed the presence of drugs in both Bang Nee and Bang Bish. Authorities have charged Bang Nee with premeditated murder, while Bang Bish faces charges for drug use The gruesome scene was first discovered by Mrs. Cha, 64, mother of the suspect. Mrs. Cha recounted returning home from the market to deliver rice to her sons. Upon entering the kitchen, she initially mistook the body for her younger son before realising it was Mook. She alerted Bang Bish, who was asleep in his room, and the two immediately notified authorities. The victim's sister, Miss Monchanok, broke down in tears upon arriving at the scene. She revealed that Mook had been living with her boyfriend to help his mother sell goods at the market. Two days prior, Mook had mentioned feeling unwell, but there were no indications of relationship problems or conflict. Miss Monchanok added that Mook suffered from depression and had previously declined offers to move in with her, preferring to stay with her boyfriend. Authorities have sent the victim's body for an autopsy at Khao Phanom Hospital before releasing it to the family for religious ceremonies. Meanwhile, further investigations are underway to determine any additional factors behind this shocking crime. The case has sparked concern in the community, with neighbours stating that authorities had been called twice recently to intervene due to Bang Nee's drug-related hallucinations. -- 2024-12-18

Bomb Scare in Udon Thani: Abandoned 81mm Mortar Found in Toilet Residents of a neighbourhood in Udon Thani were left in shock after a cleaning crew discovered an 81mm mortar bomb hidden in the toilet of an abandoned house. Authorities were alerted, and bomb disposal experts successfully removed and neutralized the device. Picture courtesy of EOD Residents of a neighbourhood in Udon Thani were left in shock after a cleaning crew discovered an 81mm mortar bomb hidden in the toilet of an abandoned house. Authorities were alerted, and bomb disposal experts successfully removed and neutralized the device. At approximately 10:00 on December 17, Pol Lt Sathaporn Sawasdee of Muang Udon Thani Police Station received a report of a suspected explosive device at a two-story house located in Jakraphong Alley, Asawamit Road, Udon Thani Municipality. Bomb disposal officers (EOD) were dispatched to the scene immediately. The house, unoccupied for years and overgrown with vegetation, was being cleaned by a team of four workers from a private cleaning company. Mr. Kongrit Ditthacharoen, 35, a cleaner from Sinsapjem Asset Company, recounted the shocking discovery. “We were clearing out trash and weeds when I noticed the object in the bathroom. At first, I wasn’t sure, but after a closer look, I realised it was a bomb. I quickly informed my supervisor to call the authorities. I’ve never encountered anything like this before, and I don’t want to see it again.” The bomb, an 81mm mortar shell, was carefully examined by EOD officers who moved it to a sand-filled containment unit for further inspection and destruction. Local residents gathered nearby as the operation unfolded. Mr. Suwannachart Saenrak, 40, the cleaning crew supervisor, explained that the company had been tasked with cleaning and preparing the property for renovation after its recent purchase. “We were shocked to find such a dangerous item on our first day here. The previous owner had long vacated the house, and we had no idea what might be left inside.” Mr. Suphap Thitipas, 79, a neighbour, expressed his alarm. “The old owner ran an automotive decoration business and let employees live in the house before it was abandoned. It’s terrifying to think a bomb was hidden there all this time. What if it had exploded?” Authorities suspect the mortar shell may have been left behind by a previous occupant, possibly as a collectible or hidden intentionally. Given the house’s long period of vacancy, it is also possible that someone later stored the device there to avoid legal repercussions. Police are continuing their investigation to determine its origin. -- 2024-12-18

Relatives, overcome with grief, confirmed the identities and accepted the deaths as a tragic accident. The strong current overturned the boat, and both victims were swept away. Local rescue teams, district officials, marine police, and community leaders had been searching intensively for four days. UPDATE Police Confirm Train Collision Death of 29-Year-Old Man Was Not Foul Play Picture from responders. Authorities have clarified the circumstances surrounding the death of a 29-year-old man who was struck by a train in Bang Lamung, Chonburi, dismissing suspicions of foul play after discovering a shirt tied around his ankles. The incident occurred at approximately 05:05 on December 17, on the train tracks before Rong Po Soi, Moo 1, Bang Lamung Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. The deceased was identified as Mr. Sitthichai Chaisin, a resident of Maha Sarakham province. Initial reports raised concerns when officers noticed a shirt tied around the victim’s feet, prompting the involvement of forensic police from Chonburi’s Region 2 Provincial Police Office. At 08:35 Pol. Col. Navin Sinthurat, Superintendent of Bang Lamung Police Station, and forensic officers conducted a detailed examination at the scene. Their investigation confirmed there were no signs of physical assault on the body. The shirt tied around the victim’s ankles was determined to be makeshift footwear for walking along the train tracks and not a form of restraint. Further investigation, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Kornpong Sukhvisit, Deputy Superintendent of Investigations, uncovered additional clues. Police reviewed evidence from local witnesses, CCTV footage, and technical analysis, which included posts from the deceased’s TikTok account. In a recent post, Mr. Sitthichai expressed distress, writing: “If my death makes you happy, I’ll disappear from your family. I’ll remove my name from the house registration to avoid bringing shame. Sorry for being an ungrateful person. #RailwayKhaoNoiPleaseCleanThisUp” The post suggested emotional turmoil, which may have contributed to the incident. Police are gathering statements from the victim’s family to gain further clarity. Pol. Col. Navin confirmed that, for transparency, the victim’s body has been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police General Hospital in Bangkok for a thorough autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The findings will provide closure to the family, who will then proceed with religious funeral rites. -- 2024-12-17

Picture from responders. A catamaran named OMBRE (HSB5551) partially sank near Koh Hey in Phuket’s Rawai Subdistrict on December 16, after water began flooding the rear of the vessel. Despite efforts to pump out the water, the boat ultimately capsized around 14:00. The incident occurred near the floating “jigsaw” mooring buoys off Banana Beach, Koh Hey. Fortunately, all passengers had already disembarked and were enjoying their time on the island, while the crew members on board escaped unharmed. Phuket’s Marine Department has coordinated with the boat owner to salvage the vessel, with recovery operations expected to conclude by the afternoon of December 17. An official order will be issued to prohibit further use of the vessel until a full investigation is completed. The OMBRE, registered at Samui Port, is a passenger catamaran operating between Ranong and Satun Provinces within 24 nautical miles of the shore under calm conditions. The vessel has a capacity of 60 passengers, with a crew of 6, including one captain. According to reports, the catamaran had successfully transported a group of tourists to Banana Beach, Koh Hey. After the tourists disembarked, the captain secured the vessel to a mooring buoy to wait for their return. Shortly after, water began flooding the rear of the boat, leading to the vessel listing and the sinking. Tourists were safely transported back to shore via an alternate boat chartered by the tour company. -- 2024-12-17
