  2. Picture from responders. A Chinese tourist has lost her life after drowning at the popular Sai Kaew Beach on Koh Samet Island. The incident occurred around noon on December 13, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. Police Lieutenant Colonel Kittichai Wongpia of the Phay Police Station was notified of the drowning and quickly coordinated with the Khao Laem Ya-Koh Samet National Park staff, Rayong Hospital, and the Sawang Phrakulsang Rescue Team to investigate the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found a crowd of onlookers on the beach. They discovered a woman unconscious on the shore and rushed to perform CPR. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the woman could not be revived. The victim, later identified as Mrs. Han Ying, a 59-year-old Chinese national, was then transferred by boat to the Ban Phe pier before being sent to Rayong Hospital for an autopsy. According to Ms. Wasana, the tour guide accompanying the group, the tourists, all from China, were staying in Pattaya and had planned a day trip to Koh Samet. The group was enjoying a day at Sai Kaew Beach, where the waters were calm and shallow. Mrs. Han, accompanied by her husband and friends, had gone into the water, unaware that tragedy would strike. There were no strong waves or unusual conditions, and it was surprising that Mrs. Han would have drowned. Her husband, in particular, was shocked by the unexpected turn of events. Initial investigations suggest that the victim may have fainted or experienced a medical issue before being swept under. Authorities are in the process of notifying the Chinese Embassy for further assistance. -- 2024-12-14

  4. Picture and video from responders. The Thai-Myanmar Border Coordination Center (TBC Thailand) was notified on December 13, by the Myanmar-Thai Border Coordination Center (TBC Koh Sone, Myanmar) of a fire aboard a large cargo vessel on the Kyaung River, near the town of Koh Sone, Myanmar. The ship was carrying construction materials such as paints and other goods, and the blaze quickly intensified. In response, Myanmar’s local authorities in Koh Sone deployed maritime firefighting equipment to combat the fire. However, despite their efforts, the situation worsened, prompting a request for assistance from Thai authorities. TBC Thailand promptly coordinated with various Thai agencies, including the Regional Maritime Office 5 in Ranong, the Teng Kyi Foundation, and other volunteer organisations with available firefighting equipment. They quickly mobilised the necessary personnel and tools, which were transported by boat to assist Myanmar authorities. Despite the swift response, the fire continued to spread, fueled by the highly flammable cargo aboard the ship. The blaze ultimately consumed most of the vessel, and authorities were unable to control the fire. Efforts focused on safely evacuating the crew to secure areas, with the fire left to burn out on its own while monitoring. The cargo aboard the vessel, which included a significant amount of valuable goods, has suffered severe damage, though the exact financial loss has not yet been determined. Myanmar authorities are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire. Myanmar expressed deep gratitude to Thai authorities, both governmental and private, for their prompt assistance during this challenging incident, acknowledging the strong support from the Thai people in this time of need. -- 2024-12-14 ScreenRecording_12-13-2024 18-35-24_1.mp4

Napaspong Khositsuriyamanee, Superintendent of Chonburi Immigration, led a task force from Pattaya Immigration Police in raiding a suspected hub of illegal foreign workers. The raid targeted Foreman House, located in South Pattaya. The operation aimed to dismantle a network of foreign labourers residing and working illegally in the area. Officers searched over 100 rooms in the four-story building, discovering a significant number of Myanmar nationals living there. The workers were gathered in the building’s parking area, where their passports, visas, and work permits were inspected. Many were unable to produce valid documentation. As a result, immigration authorities detained all individuals and transported them in nine vehicles, including police trucks and local public songthaews, to the Pattaya Immigration Office. There, officials conducted further investigations to identify illegal migrants, unauthorised workers, those failing to report their residence, and individuals wanted under police warrants. Pol. Col. Napaspong stated that the operation was in line with directives from the national police chief to crack down on high-risk areas and locations known for harbouring foreigners violating immigration laws. Special attention was given to foreigners entering on tourist visas but engaging in illegal work. “Chonburi Immigration remains committed to aggressively combating crime and enforcing immigration laws to maintain public safety,” said Pol. 24. Picture from responders. In a dramatic act of endurance, a Saudi tourist swam for over five hours through the dark waters of Pattaya to seek help for his stranded wife after their jet ski capsized during a late-night outing. The incident unfolded just past midnight on the night of December 13, when the Pattaya Marine Disaster Prevention Unit received an urgent distress call about a Saudi couple whose jet ski had overturned in the bay off Jomtien Beach. The couple, identified as 26-year-old Mr. Abdulrahman Mahdi M. Alamri and his wife, Miss Atheer Saeed A. Alamri, had rented the jet ski earlier in the evening. When they failed to return at the agreed-upon time, the jet ski operator initiated a search. However, it was not until Mr. Alamri reached the shore that authorities were able to launch a focused rescue operation. Wearing a life jacket, Mr. Alamri swam more than two kilometres through the dark waters of the bay, driven by the determination to save his wife. Despite the physical and mental toll, he persisted for over five hours, eventually reaching Jomtien Beach, where he was spotted by a passerby. The concerned bystander quickly provided initial aid to the visibly exhausted Mr. Alamri and alerted the authorities, sparking a coordinated rescue effort. The Pattaya Tourist Police, the Pattaya Marine Disaster Prevention Unit, and rescue volunteers from Rojanatham Sathan Sattahip mobilised patrol boats to scour the bay for the missing woman. After an intense search, Miss Alamri was located approximately two kilometres from the shore. Clinging to the capsized jet ski and wearing a life jacket, she was found weak, shivering, and battling exhaustion after hours of exposure in the water. Rescuers brought her to safety, where she was provided with medical attention. Both Mr. and Miss Alamri are reported to be recovering and are deeply grateful for the swift response and assistance they received. Speaking through a translator, Mr. Alamri expressed his gratitude to the authorities, volunteers, and the local community for their efforts. “I was terrified for my wife’s life. I had no choice but to swim. I thank God and everyone who helped us,” he said. The Pattaya Marine Disaster Prevention Unit praised Mr. Alamri’s heroic efforts, noting that his determination saved his wife’s life. They also commended the quick thinking of the good Samaritan who alerted them to the situation, enabling the successful rescue operation. -- 2024-12-14 ScreenRecording_12-14-2024 09-18-44_1.mp4
