Picture from responders. A shooting incident unfolded at a restaurant in the Ko Kaeo area of Phuket, resulting in the death of a 44-year-old woman. The assailant, later identified as her son- in-law, turned himself in to the police shortly after the incident. At approximately 21:45 on December 12, Pol. Col. Prateuang Phonmana, Chief of Muang Phuket Police Station, received a report from local emergency responders about a gunshot victim in critical condition. The incident occurred at a restaurant located in Soi Ko Kaeo 23 on Thepkrasattri Road, Ko Kaeo Subdistrict. Emergency responders performed CPR at the scene before rushing the victim, later identified as Mrs. Wandee, to Vachira Phuket Hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries shortly afterward. Shortly after the shooting, a 27-year-old man, identified as Mr. Natjiphong, arrived at Muang Phuket Police Station to surrender himself. He confessed to being the shooter and handed over the weapon. Police immediately detained him and conducted forensic tests on his vehicle and his hands for gunpowder residue. The restaurant, a two-story commercial building located at the entrance of a residential village, was cordoned off for investigation. Police discovered bloodstains on the floor and a bullet casing near the scene of the shooting. CCTV footage from inside and outside the restaurant was seized, and witnesses were interviewed before being summoned to the station for further questioning. According to police reports, the suspect was the victim's son-in-law. He alleged that his mother-in-law had repeatedly insulted his family over a prolonged period. On the evening of the incident, Mr. Natjiphong had been drinking beer at the restaurant when Mrs. Wandee arrived. The two got into a heated argument after she allegedly made a rude gesture and continued to verbally provoke him. Overcome with anger, the suspect reportedly pulled out a firearm and shot her once, causing her to collapse. He then called the police to confess but decided to drive himself to the station to surrender before officers arrived. Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum, Commander of Phuket Provincial Police, and Pol. Lt. Col. Korakrit Khankhrua, Deputy Chief Investigator of Muang Phuket Police Station, personally questioned the suspect. The police have charged Mr. Natjiphong with carrying a firearm in public and murder. He is now in custody pending further legal proceedings. Authorities continue to investigate the case to ensure justice for the victim and her family. -- 2024-12-14

Picture courtesy of Immigration In a large-scale operation dubbed the “Friday the 13th Purge,” Pol. Col. Napaspong Khositsuriyamanee, Superintendent of Chonburi Immigration, led a task force from Pattaya Immigration Police in raiding a suspected hub of illegal foreign workers. The raid targeted Foreman House, located in South Pattaya. The operation aimed to dismantle a network of foreign labourers residing and working illegally in the area. Officers searched over 100 rooms in the four-story building, discovering a significant number of Myanmar nationals living there. The workers were gathered in the building’s parking area, where their passports, visas, and work permits were inspected. Many were unable to produce valid documentation. As a result, immigration authorities detained all individuals and transported them in nine vehicles, including police trucks and local public songthaews, to the Pattaya Immigration Office. There, officials conducted further investigations to identify illegal migrants, unauthorised workers, those failing to report their residence, and individuals wanted under police warrants. Pol. Col. Napaspong stated that the operation was in line with directives from the national police chief to crack down on high-risk areas and locations known for harbouring foreigners violating immigration laws. Special attention was given to foreigners entering on tourist visas but engaging in illegal work. “Chonburi Immigration remains committed to aggressively combating crime and enforcing immigration laws to maintain public safety,” said Pol. Col. Napaspong. Authorities have vowed to continue their efforts to eliminate illegal activities involving foreign nationals across the region. -- 2024-12-14

Picture from responders. In a dramatic act of endurance, a Saudi tourist swam for over five hours through the dark waters of Pattaya to seek help for his stranded wife after their jet ski capsized during a late-night outing. The incident unfolded just past midnight on the night of December 13, when the Pattaya Marine Disaster Prevention Unit received an urgent distress call about a Saudi couple whose jet ski had overturned in the bay off Jomtien Beach. The couple, identified as 26-year-old Mr. Abdulrahman Mahdi M. Alamri and his wife, Miss Atheer Saeed A. Alamri, had rented the jet ski earlier in the evening. When they failed to return at the agreed-upon time, the jet ski operator initiated a search. However, it was not until Mr. Alamri reached the shore that authorities were able to launch a focused rescue operation. Wearing a life jacket, Mr. Alamri swam more than two kilometres through the dark waters of the bay, driven by the determination to save his wife. Despite the physical and mental toll, he persisted for over five hours, eventually reaching Jomtien Beach, where he was spotted by a passerby. The concerned bystander quickly provided initial aid to the visibly exhausted Mr. Alamri and alerted the authorities, sparking a coordinated rescue effort. The Pattaya Tourist Police, the Pattaya Marine Disaster Prevention Unit, and rescue volunteers from Rojanatham Sathan Sattahip mobilised patrol boats to scour the bay for the missing woman. After an intense search, Miss Alamri was located approximately two kilometres from the shore. Clinging to the capsized jet ski and wearing a life jacket, she was found weak, shivering, and battling exhaustion after hours of exposure in the water. Rescuers brought her to safety, where she was provided with medical attention. Both Mr. and Miss Alamri are reported to be recovering and are deeply grateful for the swift response and assistance they received. Speaking through a translator, Mr. Alamri expressed his gratitude to the authorities, volunteers, and the local community for their efforts. “I was terrified for my wife’s life. I had no choice but to swim. I thank God and everyone who helped us,” he said. The Pattaya Marine Disaster Prevention Unit praised Mr. Alamri’s heroic efforts, noting that his determination saved his wife’s life. They also commended the quick thinking of the good Samaritan who alerted them to the situation, enabling the successful rescue operation. -- 2024-12-14 ScreenRecording_12-14-2024 09-18-44_1.mp4

Picture from responders. A mother and daughter were seriously injured in a car crash late on December 12 when their Honda Jazz collided with a truck, causing the car to overturn and block the road. The crash led to a subsequent collision involving a pickup truck, leaving the pair trapped inside their vehicle. According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 23:15 on the outbound lane of Ratchaphruek Road, at the Ratchaphruek-Rattanathibet overpass in Bang Rak Noi, Nonthaburi Province. Local police from Bang Si Mueang Police Station and emergency responders from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found a severely damaged Honda Jazz with Suphan Buri license plates overturned in the middle of the road. Inside the vehicle, two injured individuals were trapped: Ms. Boonyang 49, and her daughter, Ms. Ariyada 19. The car’s roof had collapsed, pinning them inside. Rescue workers used hydraulic cutting tools to extricate the mother and daughter before providing first aid. They were later transported to Phra Nang Klao Hospital for further treatment. A Toyota pickup truck with Bangkok license plates, carrying a full load of coconuts, was also found damaged at the scene. The truck had collided with the overturned Honda Jazz after being unable to stop in time. The crash also caused significant damage to the bridge’s safety barriers. Mr. Samrit the pickup truck driver, recounted the moments leading up to the crash. He said he had been transporting coconuts from Ban Phaeo District, Samut Sakhon, to Talad Thai Market when he noticed a 6-wheel truck ahead. The Honda Jazz, traveling in the center lane, suddenly swerved and collided with the truck’s rear corner, possibly due to the driver’s drowsiness or an abrupt attempt to overtake. The impact caused the car to veer into the concrete barrier before overturning and sliding across the road. Mr. Samrit explained that he could not brake in time and collided with the overturned car. After the incident, the 6-wheel truck involved reportedly fled the scene, leaving authorities to investigate further. Police are collecting evidence, including CCTV footage from the overpass, to determine the exact cause of the crash. They also plan to interview the injured mother and daughter once their conditions stabilize. Authorities are continuing their investigation and urge any witnesses or the driver of the 6-wheel truck to come forward. -- 2024-12-14

Picture from responders. A dramatic rescue unfolded in Chanthaburi on the morning of December 12, when a pregnant woman jumped from the Theerat Bridge into the Chanthaburi River. Witnesses and rescue workers raced against time to save her from the fast-moving waters. At around 08:00 police received a report that a woman, approximately 6-7 months pregnant, had jumped from the bridge, which is located in the Chanthanimith District of Chanthaburi. Her body was being swept downstream, and authorities were immediately dispatched to the scene. While waiting for the rescue teams to arrive, local residents tried to help by throwing a plastic containers into the river, hoping the woman could use it to stay afloat. Unfortunately, she appeared too weak to grab onto it. Rescue volunteers from the Sawang Katanyu Chanthaburi Foundation arrived on the scene and spotted the woman approximately 200 metres downstream, about 50 to 60 metres from the riverbank. The woman was floating intermittently, sinking and resurfacing. Without hesitation, one of the rescuers jumped into the water, swam to her, and was able to secure her in time. Nearby villagers in a boat assisted the rescuer in bringing the woman back to shore. The woman, still unconscious, was immediately taken to Phrapokklao Hospital for treatment. Her condition remains critical, and she is under close medical supervision. At the scene, authorities found a mobile phone and a pair of sandals near the railing of the bridge, suggesting the woman had placed them there before jumping.
