  3. Fully agree, it is called pyrolysis, which occurs when a tyre becomes overheated and a chemical reaction in the rubber occurs. Pyrolysis causes the rubber to deteriorate. At a certain point, this deterioration can create a very rapid pressure increase inside the tyre that can lead to a sudden and unexpected explosion. It can occur when heat is applied to a tyre, such as running on a flat tyre, overheated brakes or even electrical contact. Once the chemical reaction starts, it can continue on its own even after the heat source is removed and normally there are no visible signs of it taking place until the explosion occurs.

  5. Police in Pattaya City have reported a crash on the evening of November 20, involving an elderly British man who lost control of his red electric tricycle, colliding with a wooden pallet obstructing the road. The incident occurred in front of the Toe-Tae Market on Soi Chaiyapruek 1, Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District. Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Foundation were quickly dispatched to the scene after being notified. Upon arrival, they found the electric tricycle overturned with its windshield shattered. Nearby, large wooden pallets were scattered across the road. The injured man, identified as Mr. Garry Leonard Turner, 73, a British national, was found lying on the ground with injuries, including a large head wound. Blood was pooling at the scene. Rescue personnel provided first aid before rushing him to Pattaya City Hospital for further treatment. Witnesses reported that they found the victim already lying in a pool of blood when they arrived. It is believed that Mr. Turner failed to see the wooden pallets, which had been carelessly placed on the road, and collided with them. Examination of the tricycle revealed no signs of impact from another vehicle, reinforcing the theory that the pallets were the primary cause of the collision. Further investigation revealed that the wooden pallets had been left partially obstructing the road, creating a hazard for drivers. The pallets were dislodged and scattered upon impact. Authorities are now conducting an investigation into the crash. Police plan to review CCTV footage from the area to confirm the cause and identify those responsible for leaving the pallets in the road. Pictures from responders -- 2024-11-21

  8. A truck transporting liquid glue narrowly avoided disaster and a sticky problem, when one of its tyres exploded, causing a fire. The incident occurred on Phetkasem Road in Lam Phaya Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nakhon Pathom Province. The driver escaped unscathed. The police and municipal firefighters responded to the call at 21.00 on November 20, assisted by local rescue volunteers. Upon arrival, they found the Isuzu truck, registered in Tak Province, engulfed in flames at the rear trailer. Thick black smoke filled the air, and a strong burning odour permeated the area. Authorities quickly cordoned off the road to ensure public safety while firefighters battled the blaze. It took them approximately 20 minutes to extinguish the flames completely. The truck driver, Mr. Sukphat, 60, explained that he was transporting liquid glue from Rayong Province to Tha Maka District in Kanchanaburi. As the vehicle reached the incident site, he felt the truck’s tyres suffered an apparent blowout, which caused the trailer to sway. He and his co-driver decided to stop and inspect the vehicle. Upon exiting, they noticed sparks and flames at the rear of the truck. Despite their efforts to extinguish the fire with portable extinguishers, the flames quickly grew out of control. Realising the danger, they immediately called the police and fire service for assistance. He was also able to detach the truck from the trailer. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire to determine whether it was a result of mechanical failure in either the tyre or brakes. Picture from responders -- 2024-11-21

  11. A 43-year-old construction contractor was found dead in his pickup truck after reportedly taking his own life through carbon monoxide poisoning from smoke inhalation, citing financial stress as the likely cause. The incident occurred at noon on November 20, in a vacant field approximately one kilometre from Ban Tha Kok Hae community in Warin Chamrap Subdistrict, Ubon Ratchathani. Police and rescue personnel discovered the victim, identified as Mr. Thanakrit in the driver's seat of a gray Toyota pickup truck with a shattered rear window. Inside the truck, authorities found a charcoal stove containing wood planks and ashes, alongside a used LPG gas cylinder near the vehicle. There were no signs of physical assault or injury on the body, and initial assessments suggest he died from carbon monoxide poisoning approximately 3-6 hours before being found. The victim's father, Mr. Phot, revealed that his son sent a location pin to his elder brother in Bangkok at around 02.00. However, the message was only seen in the morning. The brother forwarded the information to the victim's wife in Ubon Ratchathani, who then searched for him. Upon locating the truck, the family broke the rear window and called emergency services. Unfortunately, the victim had already passed away. The father stated that the deceased worked as a construction contractor in southern Thailand and often expressed frustration about delays in payment for completed projects. This financial pressure, compounded by the responsibility of supporting a team of over 30 workers, likely contributed to his distress. Authorities have sent the body for an autopsy at Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital to confirm the cause of death. They are also collecting evidence from the scene to finalise their report. If you or anyone you know is in emotional distress, please contact the Samaritans of Thailand 24-hour hotline: 02 713 6791 (English), 02 713 6793 (Thai) or the Thai Mental Health Hotline at 1323 (Thai). 15. UPDATE British Tourist Dies in Patong Drain Accident; Family Confirm No Foul Play The family of a British tourist who tragically drowned after falling into a roadside drain in Patong has expressed they have no suspicion of foul play, following the review of CCTV footage. Investigators have reviewed nearby CCTV footage to determine the events leading up to the death. Once the body was retrieved, forensic specialist Dr. Tulya Wich Wansri identified the deceased as Mr. Fraser Wright, a 36-year-old British national. No external injuries were observed, and it was determined that the cause of death was attributed to suffocation by drowning. Miss Katie Isabel, 17, a relative of the deceased, informed investigators that Mr. Wright and his family of three had arrived in Phuket on November 17, staying at Seaview Hotel. On the evening of November 19, around 22:00. Mr. Wright left the hotel room and failed to return. Attempts to contact him were unsuccessful. 18. A heartbroken mother helped identified the near skeletal remains of her 40-year-old son, found kneeling beneath a longan tree after being missing for 22 days. Police are now investigating whether foul play was involved. The discovery was made in a field near a corn plantation in Hong Lee Village, Chae Hom District, Lampang Province on November 20. Police Lieutenant Apirak Meetham, Deputy Investigator at Chae Hom Police Station, led a team of investigators, medical personnel from Chae Hom Hospital, and local rescue volunteers to the scene following a report of a body found. Upon arrival, authorities found the decomposed remains of a man, believed to be Mr. Peerapon Thaimai, who had disappeared under mysterious circumstances on October 29. The body was found in a kneeling position with a red nylon rope tied to a branch of the longan tree, suggesting possible suicide. The body was severely decomposed, leaving mostly only the skull and skeletal remains. Mr. Peerapon was last seen leaving home at around 20.00 on October 29. His mother, 60-year-old Mrs. Rattanaporn Tawai, had expressed fears that her son might have fallen victim to local drug gangs, as he was rumored to have been involved with illicit activities. Days later, his motorcycle was found abandoned at a pavilion near Huai Chok Reservoir, just 2 kilometres from his home. Mrs. Rattanaporn confirmed the identity of her son based on the clothing found on the remains, which police will confirm from the autopsy. The location of the body was about 1 kilometre away from where the motorcycle was discovered. While initial observations suggest the man may have died by hanging, police are not ruling out the possibility of murder. Further forensic analysis and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death and whether any criminal involvement occurred. Picture from responders. -- 2024-11-21
