Full story : https://aseannow.com/topic/1339893-pickup-crashes-into-ambulance-severing-power-pole-causing-large-blackout ayutthaya/ -
The collision occurred late night on October 5 and left a pickup truck mangled, a power pole snapped in two, and areas of the city plunged into darkness. The incident occurred on Rojana Road, Ayutthaya, when a speeding pickup truck collided with an ambulance and then careened into a power pole, causing significant damage to local infrastructure. Police Lieutenant Dechathorn Khamming from Uthai Police Station reported that the accident took place around 22:30. A Ford four-door pickup, registered in Phitsanulok, rear-ended an ambulance, the driver lost control, and crashed into a power pole near kilometre marker 13 in Kanham Subdistrict, Uthai District, Ayutthaya. At the scene, officers found the power pole split in two, with a damaged transformer, leaving the surrounding area without electricity. The front of the pickup truck was utterly destroyed, with the engine ejected and lying on the sidewalk some distance away. Inside the vehicle, 45-year-old Mr. Athorn (surname withheld) was found seriously injured and trapped. Rescue workers rushed him to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital for emergency treatment. The impact of the crash also left the ambulance, belonging to the Phutthaisawan Foundation, damaged. The right rear side was hit, and the back tyre burst. The driver, Mr. Wichai (surname withheld), a volunteer, was visibly shaken by the collision. Mr. Wichai explained that he had been driving in the right lane when he noticed the pickup truck rapidly approaching from behind. It slammed into the rear of his vehicle before veering off the road and crashing into the power pole. Wichai immediately tried to assist the injured driver but was forced to call for backup when smoke began rising from the wreckage. The collision caused a widespread power outage in the area. Uthai Provincial Electricity Authority teams worked to restore electricity, with initial assessments revealing significant damage to a high-voltage power pole and a transformer belonging to the Department of Highways. The blackout impacted street lighting, and repair costs are estimated to exceed 100,000 baht, though further evaluations are needed. Authorities are continuing their investigation, gathering detailed statements from the drivers and assessing the scene to determine the exact cause of the accident. Both vehicles are being examined for evidence, and legal proceedings will follow based on the findings. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-05

Motorcyclist Killed in Collision with Pickup Truck in Nonthaburi Police in Nonthaburi attended the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident on Chaiyapruek Road, A Honda motorcycle had crashed into the back of a pickup truck. Full story : https://aseannow.com/topic/1339883-motorcyclist-killed-in-collision-with-pickup-truck-in-nonthaburi/ -
Police from Bang Bua Thong Police Station in Nonthaburi, alongside emergency responders from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, at 17.45 on October 4, attended the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident. The incident occurred on Chaiyapruek Road, inbound towards the bridge over Khlong Aen in Laharn Subdistrict, Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi. Upon investigation, authorities found a yellow Honda motorcycle, without a license plate, that had crashed into the back of a black Nissan pickup truck with license plate registered in Udon Thani. The motorcyclist, identified as 27-year-old Pirapong Thongsaen, was thrown from his bike and died at the scene, his body resting inside, on the bed of the truck. The pickup truck driver, 63-year-old Prayut Thammada, claimed that his vehicle had broken down 15 minutes before the crash. He said he had activated the hazard lights while he sat inside the truck, with a companion signaling other vehicles. According to Prayut, the motorcyclist was using his phone at the time and did not notice the stationary truck, resulting in the collision. However, Prayut’s companion, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, provided a slightly different account. He stated that he had only used his hand to signal from inside the truck and was not standing outside the vehicle to wave down approaching traffic. The companion also mentioned that the motorcyclist appeared to be distracted by his phone when the crash occurred. A nearby witness, 24-year-old Mr. Tao, who works at a nearby restaurant, reported that he saw the pickup truck slowly reversing before the accident. He added that no one was signaling from the rear of the truck, and the only visible signal came from the passenger’s hand extended from the window. According to Mr. Tao, the motorcyclist, traveling at high speed, slammed into the back of the pickup. Police have recorded both accounts and noted discrepancies between the statements of the pickup driver and the witness. Investigators plan to review CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact cause of the accident. The body of the deceased has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy. A fire occurred at a house on October 4, in the Klong Gao Hong community on Pracha Uthit 90 Road, Thung Khru district, Bangkok, resulting in the tragic death of 11 cats, while many others were left injured. Five of the surviving cats have been rushed to a nearby animal hospital for treatment, while the rest have been given first aid by veterinarians at the scene. Police officers from Thung Khru Police Station responded to the emergency call after the fire broke out at a two-story, semi-wooden house, which was quickly engulfed by flames. Firefighters from the Thung Khru fire station arrived promptly and managed to extinguish the blaze. After controlling the fire, they began clearing the smoke to assess the damage. Upon entering the property, the rescue team was met with a heartbreaking sight. Nine cats were found dead inside the house, while many others were severely injured by the intense heat. Volunteers swiftly worked to save the surviving cats, moving them to safety and providing urgent medical attention. In total, the house owner had 29 cats, with 9 perishing in the fire, one dying later from severe injuries, and one found dead outside the home. Several cats remain unaccounted for, with 12 suffering burns. Ms. Sirisara, 53, the homeowner and cat owner, expressed her deep sorrow. “I wasn’t home at the time, but my aunt was. I rushed back as soon as I heard about the fire,” she explained. “I had around 29 cats, each in separate cages on the second floor. I’m not sure what caused the fire – whether it was a short circuit or if one of the cats chewed through the wires. I always kept a power strip plugged in, even when I turned off the fan.” Preliminary investigations have yet to determine the exact cause of the fire. Officials will conduct a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances that led to this incident. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-05

The accident resulted in five injuries in the school van. At the scene, authorities found a damaged school van belonging to Kuladis Wittayanusorn School. The rear of the van showed clear signs of being struck, with the rear wheels dislodged. Among those injured were the van driver and four students, who were rushed to Nong Phai Hospital. Nearby, a black pick-up truck with registration number from Phetchabun was found heavily damaged at the front. Additionally, a motorcycle was found at the scene, also severely damaged. The motorcyclist, identified as Mr. Phada (surname withheld), aged 67, was found unconscious and was immediately taken to Nong Phai Hospital for emergency care. Initial investigations revealed that the motorcycle had abruptly cut in front of the pick-up truck, forcing the driver of the truck to swerve. The pick-up then lost control, colliding with the rear of the school van. The impact caused the van to veer off the road, cross the median, and crash into a tree. Police have called in both the pick-up and van drivers for questioning as they continue their investigation into the exact cause of the accident. Dr. Bundit Kruthangka, head of Kuladis Wittayanusorn School, stated that he rushed to the scene upon hearing the news. After visiting the hospital, he reported that most of the injuries were minor, though one student suffered a broken arm. He noted that the accident occurred after the students had finished their final exams, and the van was en route to drop the last four students at their homes. One of the parents, Mrs. Jaruwan (surname withheld), aged 35, shared her distress. “I was waiting for my child to come home when I received a call about the accident. I was in shock, especially since I was still shaken from a recent bus fire incident. Seeing the state of the van broke my heart, but fortunately, my child only sustained minor injuries. After speaking with them and seeing they were responsive, I felt a little relieved,” she said. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to determine legal action. In a police chase on October 4th, two men high on methamphetamine fled a drug checkpoint, leading to a pursuit that ended with a crash and their arrest. The incident began when officers from Bua Lai Police Station in Nakhon Ratchasima set up a drug interception checkpoint on National Highway 2 (Mittraphap Road) near the border between Khon Kaen and Nakhon Ratchasima. At approximately 16:30 a speeding grey Isuzu D-Max pickup truck, registered in Saraburi province, approached the checkpoint. When officers signaled for the driver to slow down and stop for a search, the vehicle accelerated and broke through the checkpoint, entering Nakhon Ratchasima. Police pursued the fleeing vehicle for more than 7 kilometres. During the chase, the pickup truck sideswiped two vehicles waiting at a red light near Nong Waeng intersection, causing significant damage. The fleeing vehicle’s radiator was damaged in the collision, and officers were able to stop the truck by shooting out its tyres. The driver, later identified as 36-year-old Mr. Ton, exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but slipped and fell, hitting his head and then running along a canal before falling in. He, along with his passenger, 37-year-old Mr. Keng, were surrounded and apprehended by the police. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered 10 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a small amount of marijuana. Police revealed that both suspects had outstanding warrants from Nong Khai province. Initial drug tests confirmed that both men tested positive for methamphetamine. Police Lieutenant Colonel Paitoon Onkham, Deputy Chief of Bua Lai Police Station, stated that the suspects likely fled due to fear of arrest for drug possession and use. Both men now face multiple charges, including driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine), and reckless driving causing damage. Authorities are also urging the victims of the collision to come forward and file claims for damages. The suspects remain in custody pending further investigation. In a major crackdown, police in Pattaya raided a pool villa compound, uncovering a Chinese gang involved in illegal money lending and online gambling operations. The raid took place at 13:35 on October 3, led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Chatchai Surachetphong, Deputy Commander of Region 2 Police, and officers from Pattaya City Police Station. Acting on a tip-off, officers stormed three luxury pool villas in Chaiyapruek 1 Soi, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. The raid resulted in the arrest of 20 foreign nationals, all Chinese, and the seizure of 13 computers and more than 100 mobile phones. The operation followed intelligence from informants who reported suspicious behavior by Chinese nationals in the area, believed to be soliciting people to participate in illegal online gambling and loan sharking activities. At the first villa, located at 138/90, six Chinese men were found busy answering phones, coordinating illegal loans with clients. A Cambodian woman, working as a housekeeper, was also present. The villa contained more than 100 mobile phones and four laptop computers. At the second villa, located at 138/59, officers found eight Chinese nationals on the second floor, operating nine computers and a large number of mobile phones. The third villa, located at 138/77, housed five Chinese nationals, two of whom were attempting to shut down computer systems as officers arrived. Police revealed that the three villas were interconnected, each serving a specific role in the criminal network. The first villa acted as a hub for soliciting online gambling participants, while the second villa facilitated illegal money lending to fellow Chinese nationals. The third villa, allegedly serving as a food supply center for the group, raised suspicions, and further investigation is ongoing. All 20 Chinese nationals and the Cambodian housekeeper were arrested. Computers, mobile phones, and a sum of cash were confiscated. The suspects were charged with working without proper permits, with further charges pending investigation into other illegal activities. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to examine the extent of the gang’s operations and any additional crimes they may have committed. Picture courtesy of SiamChon -- 2024-10-04

The incident occurred morning of October 3, in Chiang Mai’s Mae Rim district, where a man was electrocuted and killed while attempting to navigate his motorcycle through a landslip zone. The accident took place along the Mae Rim-Saluang road at approximately 08:15. According to the Mae Rim district chief, recent heavy rainfall had triggered a minor landslip, causing trees, soil, and vegetation to block the road. The landslip also brought down several electricity poles, resulting in live power cables strewn across the area. Authorities promptly closed the road, issuing warnings to locals not to attempt to pass through. Despite the closure, the victim, a man believed to be in his 20s, reportedly ignored the warnings. He attempted to walk his motorcycle over the debris while keeping the engine running. Tragically, either he or the motorcycle came into contact with a live high-voltage cable, delivering a fatal electric shock. The resulting surge not only killed the man instantly but also ignited both his body and the motorcycle. Emergency responders arrived on the scene but were forced to wait until officials from the local electrical authority could isolate the power to the area. By the time responders could safely approach, the fire had already consumed most of the man and his motorcycle, leaving behind severely burned remains. Authorities have yet to release the identity of the victim, and local police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Pictures from responders. -- 2024-10-04
