At approximately 21:00, rescue personnel from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation and officers from Bang Lamung Police Station responded to reports of a serious crash near the entrance of Wat Santikham in Moo 4, Nong Pla Lai subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a large crowd gathered at the scene. A man was found dead at the roadside, having sustained severe neck injuries. The victim, later identified as Weerayut Klaihiran, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene, with blood pooling around his body. The bike, which belonged to the deceased, had been thrown roughly 50 metres into roadside vegetation, close to a local shrine. Also present at the scene was a red Toyota Mighty pickup truck, bearing registration number from Chonburi. The rear of the vehicle showed damage consistent with a high-impact collision. The driver of the pickup was taken into custody for questioning. According to Mr Sitthi Yaemtragoon 25, a friend of the deceased who had been riding alongside him, both men were travelling at approximately 120 km/h en route to visit another friend. 6. Picture courtesy of Kaoded In an early-morning raid on 22 May, Chonburi provincial police stormed a pool villa in Bang Lamung District and arrested 55 partygoers, including 11 minors, the youngest just 15 years old, in connection with illegal drug use and possession during a birthday party. The operation was led by Pol. Col. Pasakorn Paijit, Superintendent of the Chonburi Provincial Investigation Division, with support from Pol. Lt. Col. Naparuj Jitman, Deputy Superintendent, and other officers from both the investigative unit and Bang Lamung Police Station. The raid was initiated following a tip-off from local residents who reported suspicious gatherings and potential drug activity at the villa in Moo 1, Nong Pla Lai sub-district. Upon arrival, police found several cars and motorbikes parked outside the property. Inside, they encountered dozens of young partygoers drinking and allegedly consuming illegal substances while dancing to loud music. The 55 individuals, were separated by gender, 26 males and 29 females, for police to verify their ages. Eleven of them were minors under the age of 18, including two who were just 15. A thorough search of the premises uncovered significant quantities of illicit substances, including ketamine and ecstasy. Officers discovered drugs hidden behind the television, beside beds and scattered on tables and floors. Transparent zip-lock bags with traces of white powder were also seized as evidence. According to the party attendees, the gathering was organised to celebrate the birthday of a man known as “Sod Pattaya.” He had reportedly rented the pool villa specifically to host the party, as many of the guests were under 20 years old and thus legally barred from entering entertainment venues. All attendees were subjected to drug testing. Results showed that 50 individuals, including most of the minors, tested positive for narcotics, with purple-coloured urine indicating recent drug use. The suspects were taken into custody and handed over to investigators at Bang Lamung Police Station. Legal proceedings are now underway. Police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illegal drug use, especially among youth and have urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activity in their communities. The incident occurred at Wat Suwannarangsarit, known locally as “Wat Yai Ra,” in Ban Chang district. Police Lieutenant Ekalak Kamtan, Deputy Inspector of Ban Chang Police Station, received the distress call at approximately 13:30 on 21 May and responded to the scene along with rescue workers from the Siam Rayong Foundation and medical staff from Ban Chang Hospital. At the rear of the temple, rescuers found the boy’s distraught family, including his inconsolable mother, surrounded by concerned onlookers and temple monks. The boy’s lifeless body was later recovered from the pond, by a coordinated team of rescue workers and monks. According to the mother, she had brought her son to the temple for a walk. While sitting near the well on a marble bench, she received a phone call and momentarily diverted her attention. Her son had been playing with sand nearby. When she turned back, he was gone. She saw one of his shoes beside the pond and feared the worst, immediately calling for help. Despite desperate attempts of CPR by emergency responders, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother, overwhelmed with grief, was comforted by relatives and temple staff. The family had recently relocated from Nan province, intending to enrol the boy at the local temple school. All paperwork for his admission had been nearly completed. A teacher from the school stated they had been preparing to welcome him as a new student but were now preparing for his funeral instead. Police have confirmed that the family does not suspect foul play. The boy’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination at Ban Chang Hospital before religious rites are carried out. 10. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A paramilitary ranger has surrendered to authorities following a shooting incident at a military outpost in Pattani province that left one soldier dead and four others injured. The shooting occurred in the early afternoon of 21 May, near the 4215th Ranger Company base in Ban Nam Bo, Panare district. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Paramilitary Ranger Prawit Lueampol, allegedly opened fire on his fellow soldiers using an AK-style assault rifle before fleeing the scene armed and in full uniform. One of the injured was named as Ranger Pongdet Nanaesuk, 30, who suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen and left arm while inspecting a faulty water pump near the base. Witnesses say Prawit, who was on sentry duty at the base entrance, opened fire without warning, hitting Pongdet twice. As he attempted to fire again, another ranger discharged warning shots into the air, prompting Prawit to escape on foot with his weapon. Emergency responders swiftly transported the wounded to Panare Hospital. Ranger Pongdet, in critical condition, was stabilised and transferred to Pattani Hospital for further treatment, but later died. All injured personnel are believed to be members of the same ranger unit. A manhunt was launched immediately, with Colonel Sanrat Nilsalap, Commander of the 42nd Ranger Task Force, coordinating efforts with local police. Villagers were advised to stay indoors amid concerns the fugitive might be hiding in the community. However, at approximately 21:40 on the same day, Prawit surrendered to the commander of the 42nd Ranger Regiment. He was subsequently handed over to police for legal proceedings. His surrender came after extensive coordination between the military, local police, and community leaders. According to a military spokesperson, the incident began when Ranger Pongdet and colleagues informed the duty officer that they were stepping outside the base perimeter to inspect a malfunctioning water pump. They notified Prawit, who was on guard duty, before exiting the compound. As Pongdet approached the pump, Prawit reportedly opened fire, hitting him in the stomach and arm. Initial investigations have yet to uncover a clear motive. Officials stated that there was no prior indication of personal conflict between the suspect and victims, and Prawit had passed a routine psychological evaluation earlier this year. Mental health concerns have nonetheless been raised by local residents, though no formal diagnosis has been confirmed. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the attack and have pledged full transparency as the legal process unfolds. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-05-22.

  12. Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A 47-year-old man known locally as an experienced honeycomb hunter was found dead in a community forest in Kalasin province after being attacked by a swarm of bees in what rescuers have described as a tragic and cautionary incident. The victim, identified as Mr. Somklai, had ventured into the forest near Wat Pa Non Sawan in Nong E Thao subdistrict, Yang Talat district, on the morning of 20 May to search for honeycombs. According to family members, it was a common practice for him, as he regularly collected wild honey as a source of income. At approximately 14:30, while heavy rain fell across the region, local police were alerted to the discovery of a body in the forest. Rescue teams from the Samakkhi Katanyu Kalasin Foundation, led by Mr. Chayaphon Watcharaudomkun, arrived at the scene alongside investigators from Yang Talat Police Station and a duty doctor from Yang Talat Hospital. The deceased was found lying on his back beside his motorcycle, soaked from the rain and still clutching his ignition key in his right hand. His clothing was drenched, and his body bore multiple red welts with bee stingers embedded in his arms, legs, neck, torso, and head. Several bees were still clinging to the victim’s clothing and skin. Investigators believe Mr. Somklai had disturbed a hive and was attacked by hundreds of bees. He likely tried to flee and reach his motorcycle to escape, but succumbed to a reaction from the venomous stings before he could escape the area. His death is estimated to have occurred one to two hours before the body was discovered by a local forager. Authorities ruled out foul play, and the family did not request further investigation. His body was transported to his home in Ban Dong Noi village for funeral rites. Mr. Chayaphon urged the public, especially those who forage in forests during the rainy season, to exercise caution. “People searching for wild mushrooms, vegetables, or honey must be aware of the dangers posed by venomous animals. Bee hunting, in particular, is extremely risky. Bees are highly aggressive when provoked, and multiple stings can lead to death,” he said. Adapted by Asean Now from Workpoint 2025-05-22.

Picture courtesy of Amarin A bitter inheritance dispute turned violent in Surat Thani province on 21 May, when a man opened fire on his brother-in-law and three-year-old niece, seriously injuring both, in a chilling escalation of a long-running family feud. Police were alerted to the shooting around 15:20, at Soi 9, Khun Thale Sai Tri, Mueang District. Investigators from Khun Thale Police Station and forensic officers rushed to the scene, a raised, single-storey concrete house, where they found two victims lying wounded on the concrete beside the home. The victims were identified as Mr. Phattharakon, 28, who suffered a critical gunshot wound above his right eye and Miss Panicha, aged 3 years and 5 months, who had been shot in the back of the head. Both were rushed to Surat Thani Hospital by emergency rescue teams. The child’s mother, Ms. Sutthida, 30, was unharmed, the victims were her husband and daughter. The suspected gunman, Mr. Natthaphat, 38, later surrendered to police with a .38 calibre handgun. He is the half-brother of Ms. Sutthida and the uncle of the injured child. According to Ms. Jaruwan 28, a cousin of Ms. Sutthida, the dispute stemmed from an ongoing conflict over the division of inherited land. The suspect and his half-sister had been involved in a legal battle after their father allocated equal shares of land to both children. Mr. Natthaphat, however, reportedly demanded the entire inheritance, prompting a court case which was due to be resolved next month. Jaruwan stated that at the time of the incident, the family had just returned home from a local market. Mr. Phattharakon was feeding snacks to his daughter when the suspect approached and began firing without warning. Police are continuing their investigation, while the suspect remains in custody awaiting formal charges. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-05-22.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder after fatally assaulting a 51-year-old man during a heated argument at a village gathering in Ban Phue district, Udon Thani province. The victim, Mr. Direk, suffered a fractured skull, broken leg and severe bodily trauma after being attacked with a wooden beam. He was rushed to Ban Phue Hospital in critical condition on the evening of 19 May and succumbed to his injuries the following day due to internal bleeding in the brain. The assailant, Mr. Wuttikrai, also known as “Lek”, admitted to the brutal assault during police questioning. According to Pol. Lt. Col. Kusol Sitthikhankaew, Deputy Superintendent of Ban Thueam Police Station, Wuttikrai claimed the incident stemmed from frustration and intoxication. On the night of the incident, the village was celebrating both a wedding and a housewarming, with live mor lam performances. Wuttikrai had consumed methamphetamine before sitting outside his home drinking alcohol. Direk, returning from the festivities, stopped to join him for a drink. During their conversation, Direk reportedly began boasting about his youth and strength “in the old days.” Wuttikrai, already irritated, asked him to stop. When Direk persisted, Wuttikrai became enraged, punching and kicking him before using a wooden roof support beam to strike him repeatedly on the head, torso and legs. He then dragged the injured man to the road in front of the house and kicked him again. Direk’s mother arrived shortly after and helped take him home and to the hospital, accompanied by Wuttikrai himself, who claimed he did not expect the injuries to be fatal. Following Direk’s death, Wuttikrai reportedly used 500 baht given to him by the victim’s mother to buy food, shared 300 baht with his grandmother, and fled to sleep in nearby fields. He later purchased and consumed two more methamphetamine pills. That evening, 20 May, as he returned home, he was apprehended by police on a village access road. Wuttikrai has been charged with causing bodily harm resulting in death. He remains in custody as the case proceeds through the legal system. Adapted by Asean Now from Siam News 2025-05-22.

Thai tourist police have arrested a 25-year-old woman for illegally practising dentistry and selling prohibited orthodontic products, with most of her clientele reportedly school-aged children in the provinces of Phitsanulok and Sukhothai. Yutthasit Boonklam, under the directive of Pol. Maj. Gen. Ekkapop Intawiwat, Commander of Tourist Police Division 2. The raid was part of a broader crackdown on 10 categories of criminal activity, launched between 15 and 22 May 2025 under the orders of Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Phueak-am, Commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau. Investigators had received a tip-off that Ms. A was selling illegal DIY orthodontic kits and offering unauthorised fashion braces to students via social media, particularly through Facebook. Undercover officers posed as customers and arranged an appointment for fashion braces, paying a deposit of 1,000 into her bank account. This led officers to the location where the illegal dental procedures were being carried out. Upon arrest, police seized various dental instruments and fashion orthodontic equipment. Ms. A confessed to all charges, admitting she had purchased the items from online shops and advertised her services online. She also admitted to offering orthodontic services despite having no dental qualifications or professional licence. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fall, which is believed to have involved drug-induced hallucinations. At approximately 23:45, Pol. Sub-Lt. Kriengkrai Kaewpipop, deputy investigation officer at Pattaya City Police Station (Dongtan sub-branch), received a report of a fatal fall at a local condominium in the Jomtien area. Emergency services rushed to the scene and found the body of Mr. Mikhail Dolgh, a Russian national, lying at the base of the building. Police cordoned off the area to prevent unauthorised access. An inspection of Mr. Dolgh’s ninth-floor apartment revealed drug and cannabis paraphernalia and a quantity of cannabis. No signs of forced entry, theft, or struggle were found. Security personnel at the condominium told police that, prior to the incident, Mr. Dolgh had exhibited signs of extreme paranoia and hallucination. He was reportedly shouting incoherently about ghosts chasing him and they were threatening to kill him. Witnesses said he appeared agitated and was seen running up and down the building multiple times. According to the condominium’s security guard, Mr. Dolgh was known to be a frequent cannabis user. A resident who happened to be outside witnessed the man falling from the ninth floor and immediately alerted security staff, who then called the police. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that drug-induced psychosis may have contributed to the incident. An autopsy will be conducted to confirm what drugs may have been taken, as the investigation remains ongoing. Adapted by Asean Now from ที่นี่ พัทยา 2025-05-20
