Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A mother was left heartbroken in the early hours of the morning of 6 April, after she drove past a crash site and realised the overturned motorcycle belonged to her son, who was found dead at the scene. The crash occurred around 01:50, at the Sri Chum–Super Highway junction heading towards Lampang Rajabhat University, on the Lampang–Mae Tha Road in Phra Bat subdistrict, Mueang Lampang district. Police from Khelang Nakhon Station were alerted to a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in which the rider had reportedly lost control and fallen. Rescue teams from Sawang Nakhon Lampang Foundation rushed to the scene alongside a police investigator. Upon arrival, emergency responders found a young man unconscious with severe injuries, bleeding from his mouth and nose. CPR was administered immediately, but the man could not be revived. A doctor from Lampang Hospital later confirmed his death. The victim was identified as Mr. Weerapun aged 26. The man’s mother had been driving home at the time and happened to pass the scene. Recognising the fallen motorcycle, she stopped and discovered her son lying unresponsive beside the road. Witnesses described her collapsing in grief upon realising he had died. According to her statement, her son had been drinking at a friend’s house earlier that evening. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, though initial reports suggest he lost control of the vehicle while riding alone. Police and hospital officials conducted a preliminary examination at the scene before transferring the body to Lampang Hospital for a full post-mortem. The family has since taken custody of the body to perform religious funeral rites. -- 2025-04-07

Pictures courtesy of Matichon. Two men have been arrested in Phichit province after being caught red-handed setting fire to rice stubble, contributing to thick smog and hazardous PM2.5 pollution across the region. One of the suspects was found holding a lighter at the scene, authorities confirmed. Police Colonel Natthakrit Noikampan, Superintendent of Subdivision 4 of the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division (NED), led the operation in cooperation with local investigators and disaster prevention officials. The first suspect, Mr. Suchart, a local resident of Tambon Thainam in Pho Thale district, was found burning rice stubble in a field approximately 500 metres from the Pho Thale–Bang Lai Road. The fire produced heavy smoke which drifted across the road, severely reducing visibility for motorists and increasing the risk of serious accidents. Mr. Suchart admitted to the offence and was charged under the Land Traffic Act with “causing a hazard that impacts traffic safety.” In a separate incident, officers apprehended Mr. Krisana in Bang Mun Nak district with two lighters in his possession. He had set fire to stubble in a field in Tambon Hokrai, affecting more than 50 rai of land, including areas near roads, wooded zones, and close to residential areas. The thick smoke spread for several kilometres, posing significant health risks to nearby communities. During questioning, Mr. Krisana confessed that he had been paid to burn the stubble and had not anticipated the scale of the fire or the volume of smoke it would produce. He was charged under the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act for “causing a public danger.” Both suspects were handed over to investigators at Pho Thale and Bang Mun Nak police stations for legal proceedings. Colonel Natthakrit noted that illegal burning activities have increased during night-time hours, with offenders often fleeing the scene before authorities arrive. “These individuals are fully aware that their actions are illegal, yet they continue to violate the law intentionally,” he said. “Open burning causes widespread harm, not only to the air and visibility but also to public health and safety. Authorities will continue to take firm and immediate action against violators.” -- 2025-04-07

Picture from responders. Seven people were injured, two of them seriously, in a road crash involving a pickup truck that overturned multiple times and crashed off the road in Sisaket province on 5 April. Emergency services were alerted shortly after the crash occurred near Ban Sok Hin junction, along the route from Uthumphon Phisai to Pho Si Suwan district. A black Nissan pickup truck driver, registration from Sisaket, had lost control and overturned off the roadside, landing upside down. The 191 Emergency Radio Centre received the initial report and quickly coordinated with Pho Si Suwan police, rescue teams from Sisaket Sangkhro Foundation, the Jaws of Life rescue unit, and volunteers from Rasi Salai and Uthumphon Phisai. Medical personnel from Pho Si Suwan Hospital were also dispatched urgently to the scene. Upon arrival, rescuers found five injured people, both male and female, scattered around the crash site, having been thrown from the vehicle’s open cargo bed. Two more passengers, seated in the front of the vehicle, remained trapped inside the overturned cabin and were in critical condition. Rescue teams immediately began cutting into the wreckage using hydraulic rescue tools. Due to the victims’ weakened conditions, medical personnel administered intravenous fluids during the extrication. After more than an hour, both were safely removed and rushed to Pho Si Suwan Hospital. Authorities later confirmed that all seven victims had survived but were still under medical care. The passengers told police they had left Mueang Sisaket earlier that morning, taking advantage of the extended holiday weekend to return to their hometown in Pho Si Suwan district. The driver reportedly lost control just before the Ban Sok Hin junction, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and roll several times. The five individuals in the truck bed were ejected on impact. The two front-seat occupants, who were wearing seatbelts, were pinned inside as the cabin was crushed during the rollover. Police have contacted the families of the victims, and an investigation is underway into the exact cause of the crash. -- 2025-04-07

Picture courtesy of Kaoded. A 25-year-old man was rushed to hospital after being slashed in the arm with a samurai-style sword during a violent altercation in Samut Prakan. The victim, who reportedly initiated the fight, sustained a deep gash that nearly severed his right arm. The incident occurred at approximately 21:00 on 5 April, in Soi Tessaban Bang Pu 52 (near the leather tanning factory at KM 30) in the Thaiban area of Mueang District. Police from Mueang Samut Prakan Police Station, along with rescue volunteers from the Ruamkuson Foundation, responded to the scene following reports of a violent brawl. Upon arrival, they found Mr. Piyatharn Tunthit, 25, seated outside a residential building with a severe laceration to his right arm. He was given emergency first aid before being transported to Paolo Hospital Samut Prakan. Nearby, a large pool of blood was discovered, along with overturned bicycles and bloodstains leading up to the building. Witnesses and CCTV footage revealed that Mr. Piyatharn had confronted Mr. Pornprom Jakkram, 31, a tenant on the first floor of the building. The footage shows the two speaking before the conversation escalated, with Mr. Piyatharn striking Mr. Pornprom first. A second man, dressed in black and believed to be an associate of Mr. Pornprom, quickly joined in, attacking Mr. Piyatharn. The victim was punched, kicked, and eventually collapsed. As the fight intensified, Mr. Pornprom, unable to overpower his attacker, retrieved a one-metre-long samurai sword from his room and slashed Mr. Piyatharn in the arm. Following the assault, the victim was seen on CCTV staggering away while clutching his bleeding limb, seeking help from a neighbour. Police entered the building and apprehended Mr. Pornprom, who was found near a stairwell still holding the bloodstained weapon. He appeared intoxicated and admitted to attacking Mr. Piyatharn, claiming it was in self-defence after being punched first. He said he did not fully understand the reason behind the initial attack, only that the victim had mentioned an unrelated dispute involving someone known as “the man with the tattooed face”, a person he insisted he did not know. A second suspect involved in the beating fled the scene before officers arrived. Mr. Nukul Kaewkanokwijit, 35, a man who assisted Mr. Piyatharn, said the injured man approached him for help. “He said he had been slashed and needed assistance. He told me he had been drinking alone when the incident occurred and was attacked after a disagreement,” Mr. Nukul stated. Mr. Piyatharn later explained that he had intended to intervene in a separate dispute involving a friend, but an argument with Mr. Pornprom escalated when he noticed a weapon and decided to strike first. “I hit him because I thought he was going to attack me. I wanted to get the upper hand,” he said. Police have detained Mr. Pornprom for further questioning and legal action. Authorities are continuing their search for the second suspect involved in the assault. -- 2025-04-07

Picture courtesy of Matichon. A 29-year-old man has been arrested in Nakhon Pathom after a string of fraudulent schemes in which he posed as a police officer to dupe victims into buying second-hand air conditioning units and used cars. Police from the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), acting under orders from Pol Maj Gen Wittaya Sriprasertphap, apprehended Mr. Surawut on the side of Phutthamonthon Sai 5 Road in Sam Phran district, Nakhon Pathom province. He was wanted under a warrant issued by the Nonthaburi Provincial Court on 28 November 2023 for charges including conspiracy to defraud the public and computer-related fraud. According to investigators, Mr. Surawut had a pattern of impersonating a member of the 191 police unit. He advertised used air conditioners on social media, claiming they were surplus equipment from the 191 police headquarters. Victims, believing the goods to be genuine, transferred money but never received the items and were subsequently unable to contact him. In a separate scam, the suspect posed as a police officer to sell used cars. After victims purchased the vehicles, he would contact them a week later claiming the cars had documentation issues and needed to be returned. He would show fake money transfer slips on his phone to convince the buyers he had refunded their money. Trusting the transaction was complete, victims returned the cars, only to later discover the transfers were fraudulent. By then, Mr. Surawut had already vanished with the vehicles. Police say the suspect has a long history of scams involving multiple victims across various provinces. He is currently facing at least five outstanding arrest warrants related to similar offences. During questioning, Mr. Surawut reportedly confessed to the crimes. He was handed over to Bang Kruai Police Station for further legal proceedings. -- 2025-04-07

Picture courtesy of Matichon. Residents of Moo 9 in Bo Thong subdistrict, Kabin Buri district, are voicing growing anger over foul, chemical-like odours they believe are coming from a nearby Chinese-owned electronic waste recycling plant. The stench, which some describe as resembling herbicide, has reportedly blanketed the entire village, sparking health concerns and frustration over a perceived lack of official response. The issue was first highlighted in a viral Facebook post by a local woman, Ms Nongnuch, who wrote: “It stinks across the whole of Moo 9, Bo Thong. Can local leaders please come and inspect the factories?” The post has since attracted a flood of comments from fellow villagers who also complained of a strong, choking smell causing nausea and difficulty breathing. When reporters visited the area at around 10:40 on 5 April, Ms Nongnuch explained that the odour was most intense late at night between 22:00 and 23:00. “At first, I thought something in my house was burning,” she said. “But my partner said it smelled like herbicide, very strong, very real. The smell persisted the entire day.” She added that the issue appears to extend beyond her immediate village. “A friend from nearby Moo 4 in Ban Kut Pla Wi came to visit and said the smell was just as bad there.” Despite the widespread complaints on social media, Ms Nongnuch said she had not yet made an official report to the local authorities, though others had reached out to their village head and subdistrict council members. Another resident, Ms Ampee Sesri, confirmed the stench had lingered for at least two days. “It’s a sharp, chemical smell. I don’t know if it’s herbicide or fumes from a factory. There’s one about two kilometres away, near the end of the village.” When contacted by the press, Mr Ekkaluck Sesri, head of Moo 9 village, admitted he had not received a formal complaint but was aware of the Facebook posts. He said factory representatives had already responded, attributing the smell to the initial heating of machinery during startup. A investigation found a small electronic waste melting facility approximately two kilometres from the village, emitting a pungent odour closely resembling herbicide. Residents are now calling for a thorough investigation into the factory’s operations and for immediate action to protect public health. The situation has raised fresh concerns about environmental oversight and industrial accountability in rural areas with expanding foreign-owned manufacturing zones. -- 2025-04-07

Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A banana farmer took justice into his own hands after repeated thefts from his plantation, culminating in the dramatic torching of a suspected thief’s abandoned motorcycle. The incident took place at around 21:30 on 5 April in Moo 10, Na Nornod subdistrict, Mueang district, Phatthalung province. The plantation owner, 45-year-old Mr Boonrin, told authorities he had endured months of nightly raids by fruit thieves stealing bananas from his 4-rai farm, where he grows Nam Wa, Kluai Khai, and Cavendish bananas. According to Mr Boonrin, the problem escalated after his Nam Wa bananas began to ripen and were frequently stolen before he had a chance to harvest even a single bunch for sale. Fed up and desperate, he decided to take matters into his own hands and laid in wait inside the plantation. That night, the thief returned once again. “He rode in on a motorcycle and parked in the plantation,” Mr Boonrin recounted. “As he walked towards the bananas to cut them, I shouted out, ‘Why are you cutting my bananas?!’” Startled, the thief fled on foot, abandoning his motorcycle at the scene. Consumed with anger over the repeated thefts and feeling powerless after previous police reports failed to produce results, Mr Boonrin said he acted on impulse and set fire to the thief’s motorcycle, destroying it entirely. When asked why he hadn’t called the police again, Mr Boonrin expressed frustration with local authorities. “I’ve reported the thefts many times before, but the police didn’t seem to care and never caught anyone. I’ve been left to suffer alone, so this time I snapped.” The incident has sparked debate online, with some sympathising with Mr Boonrin’s plight and frustration, while others warn against taking the law into one’s own hands. Police have not yet issued a formal statement on the incident. -- 2025-04-07

Pictures from responders. A 31-year-old woman was killed instantly and a male passenger seriously injured when a car crashed at high speed into the rear of a stationary six-wheeled lorry on a Bangkok expressway in the early hours of the morning of 6 April. The crash occurred on the Chalerm Maha Nakhon Expressway, near the Thanon Tok exit in Khlong Toei district. Police from Expressway Station 1, along with rescue personnel and doctors from King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, rushed to the scene following reports of a severe collision. Emergency responders discovered a white Isuzu lorry parked in the rightmost lane, with damage to the rear-left side. Nearby, a grey Chevrolet sedan, registration from Bangkok, was found with its front section completely destroyed. The windshield was shattered, and the roof had been torn open, exposing the interior of the vehicle. The female driver, later identified as Ms. Chatrasamont, 31, was found deceased, her body trapped in the wreckage. Rescue crews used hydraulic tools to extract her body. She had suffered severe head trauma, chest injuries, and a broken arm. A male passenger, seated in the front left seat, was seriously injured and transported to Theptarin Hospital for urgent medical care. According to a worker who had been on the scene, the lorry had been parked since 22:00 for overnight road maintenance work. The team had placed orange traffic cones and activated hazard lights. At approximately 00:30, while they were packing up equipment after completing their work, the car approached at high speed, failed to brake, and slammed into the back of the lorry with a deafening crash. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the expressway and will wait for the injured man to recover, as they continue a full investigation into the cause of the crash. -- 2025-04-07

Picture courtesy of Khoasod. Shoppers were left stunned in Saraburi on 5 April, as a local gold shop unveiled the largest gold necklace ever seen in Thailand, a striking dragon-head design weighing a staggering 456 baht and valued at 23 million baht. The grand debut took place during the grand opening of Rungsub Gold Group’s newest branch on the second floor of a major department store in Saraburi. As part of the celebrations, the store offered customers the chance to purchase gold jewellery without any added craftsmanship fees on 5–6 April, attracting crowds eager to take advantage of the rare promotion despite the soaring price of gold. Customers were greeted with a wide range of jewellery options, including gold ornaments, bullion, and diamonds in various weights. The promotion was positioned as a way to defy the upward trend of global gold prices. After 6 April, customers will still enjoy a discount on craftsmanship charges ranging from 50% to 80%. Taking centre stage outside the store was Ms. Phanpee Neerattanaphan, the shop owner, who welcomed guests while proudly donning the show-stopping 456-baht dragon-head necklace, now officially recognised as the largest gold necklace in Thailand. The necklace drew a constant stream of curious customers, many of whom took selfies wearing the massive gold piece to show off to friends and social media followers. -- 2025-04-07

Pictures from responders. A teenage boy has died following a crash, in which his motorcycle collided with a cow that suddenly crossed the road. The incident occurred in the afternoon of 5 April on a village road between Ban Khok Sawang and Phlap Mai in Moo 4, Bu Fai subdistrict, Prachantakham district. Police Lieutenant Athorn Jitthin, the duty investigator at Prachantakham Police Station, received a report of the crash at approximately 15:40. Authorities arrived at the scene to find the lifeless body of a 15-year-old boy, later identified as Norodom, lying in a roadside ditch. His grief-stricken parents, who rushed to the scene upon hearing the news, collapsed in shock. Around seven metres from the boy’s body, a white cow was also found dead, having succumbed to injuries from the high-impact collision. The boy’s damaged blue-and-white Honda motorcycle was discovered more than ten metres away on the road, with broken parts scattered across the scene. Local residents reported that there were no warning signs in the area to alert drivers of free-roaming livestock. One villager said the cow’s owner had earlier called to ask if anyone had seen the missing animal, which had apparently escaped its enclosure. Police are expected to follow up with the animal’s owner as part of their investigation. -- 2025-04-07

Picture from responders. A fire engulfed a six-wheeled truck carrying over 5,000 chickens on the Phahonyothin Road in Nong Khae district, Saraburi province, late night on 5 March. The blaze, which broke out near kilometre marker 93 in the inbound lane towards Bangkok, resulted in the deaths of all the chickens on board. Police Lieutenant Suthat Sonngao, an investigating officer at Nong Khae Police Station (Hinkong sub-branch), received the emergency report and immediately coordinated with the Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescue unit and firefighters from the Hinkong Municipality. Upon arrival, emergency responders found the truck, registration from Suphan Buri, completely engulfed in flames. The fire had spread rapidly, consuming the entire vehicle and its live cargo. Firefighters battled the blaze for over 30 minutes before finally bringing it under control. Sadly, none of the chickens survived. The driver, Mr Chaiyachart Srisuk, recounted the moment to authorities. He said he had departed from Phatthana Nikhom district in Lopburi province, heading to deliver the chickens to Kanchanaburi. As he approached the scene of the incident, he noticed flames erupting near the truck’s rear wheels. “I immediately veered into the frontage road and called out to locals for help,” Mr Chaiyachart said. “I tried to find a hose to extinguish the flames, but the fire spread so quickly and violently that it was impossible to stop. I could only watch as the truck and all the chickens were consumed.” The fire caused significant damage to the vehicle and led to the loss of thousands of livestock. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, though initial signs suggest it may have originated from a mechanical issue in the brakes/wheel area. -- 2025-04-07

Pictures from responders and CCTV. A 79-year-old man was killed while crossing a zebra crossing early morning on 6 April, when he was struck by a speeding motorcycle and then fatally hit by another vehicle following behind. CCTV footage confirmed that neither driver attempted to slow down for the pedestrian. At approximately 05:55, Police Sub-Lieutenant Ramwalee Thongruang from Phra Samut Chedi Police Station received a report of a collision involving a pedestrian on Pracha Uthit 90 Road in Nai Khlong Bang Pla Kot subdistrict, Phra Samut Chedi district, Samut Prakan province. Emergency services, including doctors from Phra Samut Chedi Sawatyanon Hospital and rescue volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, rushed to the scene. The victim, later identified as Mr. Sawai, was found lying face-down in the middle of the four-lane road, critically injured and surrounded by a pool of blood. Despite CPR and emergency treatment at the scene, he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards due to the severity of his injuries. Nearby, a torn black garbage bag filled with recyclable materials lay scattered across the road. Roughly 20 metres away, a blue Yamaha N-MAX motorcycle was found overturned. A further 80 metres from the crash site, a severely damaged black Honda PCX was discovered, along with an empty beer bottle, raising concerns about possible alcohol involvement. Two other individuals were seriously injured in the incident: Mr. Jakkrapong (29), a local resident, and Ms. Anthika (28), from Rat Burana district in Bangkok. Both were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Eyewitness Mr. Prawet (62) told police he was riding his own motorcycle to drop off his wife when he saw the elderly man nearly halfway across the pedestrian crossing. A speeding black Honda PCX struck the man with full force, sending both the victim and the motorcycle flying. Moments later, a blue Yamaha N-MAX following behind, driven by a woman, ran over the man’s body. Mr. Prawet immediately stopped to assist and called emergency services. Police reviewed footage from a nearby CCTV camera, which confirmed the elderly man was legally crossing at the zebra crossing when the first motorbike hit him without braking. The second collision occurred almost immediately afterward. Authorities are now investigating further, including interviewing the injured riders at hospital and have conducted alcohol tests. The deceased’s body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy. Police have recorded the incident and will proceed with legal action against those responsible. This incident has reignited concerns about pedestrian safety and the disregard for traffic laws, particularly the frequent failure of motorists to stop at pedestrian crossings. -- 2025-04-06

Pictures from responders. A coach carrying worshippers collided with a six-wheel lorry parked for roadside electrical light repairs, killing two and injuring at least 25 others in Pathum Thani province. The crash occurred at around 09:00 on 6 April, on the Taling Chan–Suphan Buri Road near Noppawong Junction in Na Mai Subdistrict, Lat Lum Kaeo District. Police and emergency services, including Lat Lum Kaeo Hospital rescue units and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, rushed to the scene. The red Hino bus, registered in Nonthaburi, sustained significant damage to its front right side. The driver was killed instantly and found trapped inside the vehicle. One more passenger died later at Lat Lum Kaeo Hospital. Twenty-five others sustained injuries of varying severity and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Approximately 200 metres from the crash site, officers found the heavily damaged six-wheel truck, registered in Nan province, which had been carrying a small backhoe digger. Mr. Rukchat), 42, a resident of Nan and driver of the six-wheeler, said he and his son had parked on the right-hand lane with hazard lights flashing while preparing to unload the backhoe to carry out maintenance work on roadside lighting in the central reservation. Suddenly, he heard a loud crash and turned to see the bus had slammed into the rear of his vehicle before veering off the road. Ms. Wanna 66, from Bangkok, one of the passengers, explained that she and her group were en route from the capital to a Buddhist centre in Lat Bua Luang, Ayutthaya province. “I was asleep and woke to a jolt as the bus veered off the road. Everyone was shaken and many were injured. Rescue workers arrived shortly after and helped get us out.” Police at Lat Lum Kaeo Station are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Initial reports suggest visibility due to haze may have been a factor, but the exact cause is still being determined. Officers are interviewing survivors and witnesses and examining both vehicles. Rescue personnel used hydraulic cutting equipment to recover the deceased bus driver’s body, which has since been transferred to the Ministry of Justice’s Forensic Medicine Institute for formal identification and religious rites. Police are working to notify the victims’ families. -- 2025-04-06

Picture courtesy of Khaosod A Chinese national wanted for attempted murder in his home country has been arrested in Bangkok after evading capture for more than two decades. On April 5, Pol. Lt. Gen. Wittaya Sriprasertphap, Commander of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), ordered the arrest of Mr. Zhang, also known as “Lao Er,” aged 52, at a housing estate in the Sathorn–Ratchaphruek area of Bangkok’s Phasi Charoen district. Mr. Zhang, who had been operating a popular mala skewer restaurant in central Bangkok, was apprehended under an arrest warrant issued by the Thai Criminal Court on 17 May 2024 for the charge of “causing grievous bodily harm.” Authorities also seized a Thai driver’s licence during the arrest. The arrest followed a formal request from Chinese authorities for cooperation in apprehending Mr. Zhang. He had allegedly shot a fellow Chinese national, Mr. Zhou, in 2003 in Shantou, Guangdong province, leaving the victim critically injured. Following the incident, Zhang fled China, living under false identities in Vietnam and Cambodia for over 20 years before settling in Thailand. CSD officers discovered Zhang had been using a fake Vietnamese passport under the name “Mr. Ly Thanh.” He had been living with his Chinese girlfriend, Ms. Deng, and co-running the popular mala restaurant. The couple resided in an upscale Bangkok neighbourhood, where Zhang was ultimately located and detained. During interrogation, Zhang admitted to the shooting. Thai authorities are now working with the Office of the Attorney General to initiate extradition proceedings, which will see him returned to China to face justice. -- 2025-04-06
