  1. Picture courtesy of CIB. Following recent earthquake activity that caused widespread damage to homes and buildings across Thailand, authorities have issued a warning to the public about fraudsters posing as structural engineers offering inspection services. According to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), these scammers are taking advantage of the situation by impersonating qualified professionals, offering to inspect damaged buildings before disappearing with upfront payments. The CIB has urged homeowners and property managers to exercise extreme caution and to verify the credentials of anyone offering structural inspection services. They have outlined several criteria that legitimate building inspectors must meet: • They must hold Thai nationality. • They must possess a valid professional licence as an engineer or architect. This certification must comply with laws regulating the engineering and architectural professions in Thailand. • They must have completed a certified training course in building inspection techniques and the use of appropriate structural assessment equipment, as recognised by the Building Control Committee. • They must be officially registered with the Building Control Committee and hold an inspection registration certificate known as Form RT.1. • They must not have been removed from the professional registry within the two years prior to applying for registration as a building inspector. The CIB stressed the importance of verifying these qualifications before agreeing to hire anyone for post-earthquake inspection services. Residents are encouraged to request official documentation and consult the relevant authorities if they are unsure about an individual’s legitimacy. “This is a time when many are vulnerable and seeking help to assess the safety of their homes,” a CIB spokesperson said. “Unfortunately, there are those who will exploit this. Please remain vigilant, verify all credentials thoroughly, and do not hand over any payments unless you are completely sure of the individual’s qualifications.” -- 2025-04-09

  3. Pictures from responders. Two people have died and another was injured in a head-on collision between two pick-up trucks in Kalasin province early morning on 8 April. The Asok Somdet Rescue Unit responded to an emergency call from the Kalasin provincial command centre at around 07:30. The report indicated a serious road crash involving two pick-up trucks on the Somdet–Huai Phueng Road, near a watermelon stand in Lam Huai Lua Subdistrict, Somdet District. Upon arrival, rescue workers found two severely damaged vehicles: a green Isuzu pick-up with Kalasin plates and a grey Toyota Revo with Roi Et registration. The impact had completely crushed the front ends of both vehicles. Three people were reported injured, with two of them found unconscious and trapped inside one of the vehicles. Rescue volunteers used hydraulic cutting tools to free the victims from the wreckage and immediately began CPR on both individuals. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, both were later pronounced dead at the scene. The third victim sustained injuries but survived. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released, and the cause of the accident remains under investigation by officers from Somdet Police Station. 5. Picture courtesy of SiamChon. A British man is in critical condition after reportedly shooting himself in the head while playing Russian roulette under the influence of cannabis and nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas”. The incident took place at a condominium in Chaiyapruek 1 Soi 3, Pattaya, during night of 8 April. At 21:35, Pol. Lt. Col. Panasarn Khrongsit, deputy inspector of Pattaya City Police Station, received a report of a foreign national who had sustained a serious gunshot wound to the head. He immediately notified Pol. Col. Anek Srathongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya Police Station, and coordinated with Pol. Lt. Col. Apichat Jarurak, a senior officer with the Tourist Police Division, as well as local rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation. Upon arrival at the 11th-floor room (number 1119) of the condominium, rescue teams found a man later identified only as “Michael,” a British national, lying unconscious in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the centre of his forehead. Emergency medical responders performed CPR at the scene before rushing him to hospital in a critical condition. The scene showed clear evidence of substance use. Blood was splattered across the floor, and several used balloons were found, believed to have contained nitrous oxide. A revolver, identified as a .38 calibre handgun, was also recovered with one spent shell casing still inside the chamber. A 29-year-old Lithuanian national, identified only as Mr. J, who shared the condo with the victim, told police that Michael had consumed cannabis and inhaled nitrous oxide before suggesting they play Russian roulette. Mr. J said he refused and went to lie down, only to hear the sound of the revolver clicking, followed shortly after by a loud gunshot. He rushed over to find his friend critically injured and immediately alerted another friend to contact the authorities while he sought help from the building’s security personnel. Pattaya police, along with forensic officers from Chonburi’s Region 2 Scientific Crime Detection Centre, are conducting a detailed investigation. Evidence has been collected from the room, and Mr. J has been taken in for questioning. Authorities are now trying to determine the origin of the firearm. Police stated that further forensic testing, including gunshot residue analysis on both the victim and his roommate, will be conducted to clarify the circumstances leading up to the incident. The case remains under investigation. -- 2025-04-09

  7. Picture captured from CCTV and courtesy of Kaoded. A lone gunman made off with 184 baht in gold jewellery, worth more than 9 million baht, after brazenly robbing a well-known gold shop in the heart of Hat Yai city on 8 April, just before noon. At approximately 11:55, Pol. Lt. Sathaporn Suksawang of Hat Yai Police Station received a report of an armed robbery at Thai Udom Gold Shop 2 on Montri 1 Road in central Hat Yai. He promptly informed senior police officers, including Pol. Col. Thammarat Phetnongchum, Superintendent of Hatyai Police, and Pol. Col. Sakda Charoenkul, Deputy Commander of Provincial Police Region 9, who arrived on the scene with investigative teams. Upon arrival, police found shaken staff members and four gold trays scattered across the shop’s showcase area. Witnesses reported that a man, believed to be around 50 years old and wearing a cap to conceal his identity, entered the shop while employees were serving customers. Staff requested that he remove his cap as per shop policy, but instead, the suspect displayed a handgun, causing panic. One staff member quickly triggered the shop’s alarm system while others fled to the back of the store. Taking advantage of the chaos, the robber grabbed four trays of gold jewellery, placing the items into a backpack before calmly walking out of the shop. He then made his escape on a red Honda Dream motorcycle with Yala province registration plates, parked about 30 metres away. Preliminary reports confirmed that a total of 184 baht in gold was stolen, comprising: • 21 one-baht gold necklaces • 30 two-baht gold bracelets • 20 two-baht gold necklaces • 21 three-baht gold bracelets The combined value of the stolen jewellery exceeds 9 million baht. Police reviewed CCTV footage from the area, which lies within Hat Yai’s busy municipal centre. Investigators report that the robber is a Malaysian man named Mr. Yi Bun Long, 61 years old, with police offering a 100000 baht reward for information leading to his capture. Mr. Yi Bun Long had previously used a gun to robbed another gold shop, which was located opposite the scene of today’s incident on January 6, 2017. At that time, he stole 31 gold necklaces, weighing 115 baht, worth over 2.3 million baht. He was eventually arrested and was only released from prison a little over a year ago. -- 2025-04-09

The incident unfolded in front of horrified friends and others, who could only watch as rescue teams battled currents and rain to recover the boys’ bodies. Police Lieutenant Nathakamon Thaoklang of Wang Saphung Police Station received the distress call at around 15:30 on 7 April. Emergency services, including local disaster prevention officers and volunteers from the Sawang Kheereetham Rescue Foundation, rushed to the scene at the rubber weir on the Loei River, located in front of the revered Chao Pho Si Songkhram shrine. At the scene, clothes and mobile phones belonging to the boys were found on the riverbank. Rescue divers began searching the deep, fast-flowing, and murky waters despite persistent rain. At approximately 17:00 the body of Attaphan, aged 13, was recovered and brought ashore, where his grieving mother and family waited in anguish. Rescue operations intensified with the arrival of more volunteer divers. At around 19:30, the body of the second victim, Ekaphon, also 13, was recovered. A surviving friend, Noppamongkol, also 13, recounted the harrowing events. He explained that four boys had come to play in the water that afternoon. While one stayed near the bank, the others, including the two victims, jumped into the deep waters near the top of the weir. Neither of the deceased boys could swim. As they struggled, Noppamongkol cried for help, attracting the attention of a nearby group of teenagers who managed to save him, but were too late to rescue the others. -- 2025-04-09

  11. Pictures courtesy of Kaoded. A communication cable technician is in critical condition after suffering a severe electric shock and falling from a utility pole in Pattaya on the evening of 7 April Emergency services were alerted to the incident at approximately 19:35 following reports of a electrical power line incident off Phratamnak Road, near Soi 2 in Pattaya, Chonburi province. Rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation, along with Pattaya City special operations officials, rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a man believed to be about 30 old lying on the ground, seriously injured. His body showed extensive burn marks and his clothing was torn and scorched. He was given emergency first aid before being urgently transported to a nearby hospital. Flames were also seen burning at the top of the utility pole where the incident occurred. Firefighters were forced to close the road temporarily while they extinguished the blaze and ensure the area was safe. Mr Tanongsak Siphienkaew, 29, a co-worker of the injured man, explained that they had gone together to carry out repairs on a communication line. He said the victim had climbed up the utility pole using a ladder when, moments later, there was a loud electrical spark followed by an explosion. His colleague was thrown from the pole and hit the ground with force. “I didn’t see exactly what happened at first,” said Mr Tanongsak. “There was a loud bang, and then I saw him fall. I immediately called for help.” Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, which has once again raised concerns about safety standards and protocols for those working on or near live electrical infrastructure. -- 2025-04-08

  12. Police Urge Embassy Cooperation to Tackle Mental Health Incidents Involving Foreigners Picture courtesy of Khaosod. 13. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Police in central Bangkok have called for closer cooperation with foreign embassies in handling mental health incidents involving foreign nationals, amid a rising number of such cases in the capital. Lumpini Police Station hosted a high-level meeting with representatives from 17 embassies at the Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel in Pathumwan district. Also in attendance were officials from the Immigration Bureau, Tourist Police, the Royal Thai Police Foreign Affairs Division, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Homeless Protection Centre. The gathering aimed to enhance coordination and emergency protocols as Bangkok continues to welcome large numbers of tourists and expatriates. Police Colonel Yingyot Suwanno, Superintendent of Lumpini Police Station, said the meeting addressed growing challenges officers face when dealing with foreign nationals suffering from mental health crises, particularly those requiring hospitalisation or urgent psychiatric support. As part of the discussion, embassy officials were presented with revised Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), designed to streamline communication and improve crisis response between embassies and local authorities. Several past incidents were cited to illustrate the urgency of the matter: • In February 2024, a Japanese woman experiencing a psychiatric episode commandeered an emergency rescue vehicle and fled to the Thonburi area. Police were forced to hire a private interpreter due to the embassy’s limited staffing at the time. • Two separate security breaches at the US Embassy were also mentioned. In May and June 2024, an American and a Russian national each attempted to gain unauthorised access to the embassy grounds, one even leapt into the front pond. Poor coordination between embassy security and Thai police caused delays in both cases. • On 20 March 2025, an elderly Polish man was discovered unwell outside a hotel. Police experienced significant delays due to communication issues with embassy officials, resulting in slow access to medical care. A more successful outcome was achieved in a case involving a Belarusian national with a psychiatric condition, who damaged property and attacked individuals at a hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 1. Effective coordination with Somdet Chaopraya Hospital, a specialist psychiatric institution, allowed for prompt and appropriate intervention. The meeting also reviewed an incident from 11 December 2024 in Phuket, where a Belarusian man became intoxicated, displayed aggressive behaviour, and resisted arrest. Authorities credited the smooth handling of the situation to clear SOPs and consistent adherence to legal protocols. Bangkok police hope the newly introduced procedures will help prevent misunderstandings, reduce response times, and ensure that vulnerable foreign nationals receive the care they need while protecting public safety. The initiative underscores the importance of cross-border collaboration in a city where international tourism and expatriate populations continue to grow. -- 2025-04-08

  15. Picture courtesy of Amarin. A brutal murder has shocked a rural community, after a 43-year-old man was found fatally bludgeoned in a hut in Dok Khamtai District, Phayao Province. The victim, identified as Mr Akkharaphon Donloe, was discovered on 6 April around 11:55., lying on a hammock inside a wooden hut located in Moo 10, Dok Khamtai subdistrict. Emergency responders found him severely injured, with blood covering the wooden floorboards. He was rushed to Dok Khamtai Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. According to police reports, the victim had sustained three serious head injuries believed to have been caused by a blunt object, two wounds approximately 5 centimetres in width and one larger wound measuring 10 centimetres. Forensic examination revealed that the trauma caused extensive brain damage and heavy blood loss, which led to his death. Pol Col Bowon Chaiyakam, Superintendent of Dok Khamtai Police Station, along with investigators from the provincial police and forensic units, revisited the crime scene on 7 April, to gather further evidence and interview potential witnesses. Police have established two possible motives in the early stages of the investigation. The first is a possible altercation with a friend, while the second is linked to illegal drug use. Blood tests conducted on the deceased returned positive for narcotics, and Mr Akkharaphon was also known to be a regular drinker. Authorities are currently working to identify and apprehend the individual or individuals responsible for the fatal assault. The investigation remains ongoing. -- 2025-04-08

  17. Picture courtesy of Matichon. A man accused of impersonating high-ranking officials and defrauding a Thai actress of tens of thousands of baht is now under investigation for multiple offences following a dramatic incident at Khok Khram Police Station. The suspect, referred to publicly as “Mr. Hot,” attempted to leap from the third floor of the police station in an apparent escape attempt during questioning on the afternoon of 7 April. The dramatic scene unfolded around 15:40 while Mr. Hot was being interviewed by officers in the crime suppression room on the third floor. According to police, the man asked to use the toilet, then suddenly ran out of the room and climbed onto the balcony wall, before jumping. His body struck the metal roof of a car park before hitting the ground. Rescue personnel were dispatched immediately and confirmed he was unconscious but still breathing. He is currently under medical care. Police stated that the suspect was not yet officially under arrest at the time of the incident and could not be handcuffed. They added that he had not exhibited any obvious signs of distress prior to the leap. Earlier in the day, at 14:20, the suspect had reportedly confronted actress and model Rinyarat “Kanar” Watcharorotsiri at the police station, claiming she had blackmailed him for 10 million baht and all her claims are lies. The case had escalated after social media figure Gun Jompalang and actress Kanar appeared on a talk show, revealing shocking claims about the man’s deceit. They alleged that Mr. Hot had impersonated government officials, fabricated high-level connections, including to the Prime Minister and even donned a civil servant’s uniform while using an official-looking vehicle to impress and manipulate. Kanar stated that she was gifted what she believed to be 50 baht-weight gold and diamonds, only to discover later the gold was fake. She also revealed that Mr. Hot had falsely claimed to have received a royal marriage blessing, which led her to believe his intentions were legitimate. Later on the same day, Police Lieutenant General Trirong Phiewphan, Commissioner of the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD), confirmed that legal proceedings are now underway against the suspect. He noted that the scam involving a fabricated chat message requesting a 98,000 baht champagne purchase, allegedly as a gift for the Prime Minister, which constituted fraud and a violation of the Computer Crime Act. Investigations revealed that Mr. Hot had manipulated screenshots to create a fictitious Line chat with Lt. Gen. Trirong, using the officer’s Facebook photo to lend authenticity. Lt. Gen. Trirong stated that the impersonation of his identity made him a victim as well. “The tactics used resemble those of call centre scam gangs,” said the commissioner, urging the public to be wary of romantic scams and claims of connections to high-ranking officials. Speaking after filing a complaint, Kanar said the suspect’s leap from the police station was both unnecessary and futile. “If he truly believed he was innocent, he should present his evidence. Jumping from a building won’t make this go away, our country has laws,” she said. “I have confidence in the evidence and am ready to proceed legally.” Police are now investigating further possible victims and additional offences, with charges including fraud and violations under Thailand’s Computer Crime Act. The suspect remains under medical observation as legal proceedings continue. -- 2025-04-08

The incident, which occurred at around 16:00 on 7 April, is being treated as suspicious, and local police have launched a full investigation. Police from Bang Lamung Police Station, accompanied by officers from Pattaya Tourist Police and rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation, arrived at the scene on Soi Na Kluea 16 to find the body of Ms. Kyznkoba Kuzikova lying face down in the condo’s garden area. She was found naked, with only a green towel partially covering her lower body. Initial investigations revealed that the deceased had been living alone in a room on the 14th floor of the 40-storey building. However, over the past few days, a fellow Russian man, said to be an acquaintance of only a few days, had been visiting her regularly and was reportedly present in the room at the time of the incident. The man told police that he had been sitting at a table using his laptop with his back turned to the balcony, while the victim was in the bathroom. He claimed that he overheard her having a heated phone conversation, believed to be with her boyfriend, before she emerged from the bathroom in a hurry and jumped from the balcony. A foreign national, whose details have not been disclosed, suffered serious injuries in the early hours of the morning of 7 April, after losing control of his high-powered motorcycle and crashing into a traffic light control box at the San Pa Koi intersection in central Chiang Mai. The incident occurred at approximately 05:25, on Charoen Muang Road in Mueang District. CCTV footage captured the moment the big bike veered off course, slamming into the traffic control cabinet. The rider was flung across the pavement, landing violently against a large concrete flower pot. The injured man’s fellow rider, also a foreigner, immediately stopped to assist, while local residents, awakened by the deafening crash, rushed to the scene. Emergency services were quickly contacted and the injured rider was transported to McCormick Hospital in a critical condition. The crash caused significant damage to the traffic signal system, leaving the intersection without functioning lights and resulting in widespread power outage. A local resident, 46-year-old Mrs Sasivimon, who lives near the intersection, recounted that she heard a loud crash and ran outside to find the injured foreign motorcyclist lying motionless, bleeding from the mouth and ears. His helmet had been thrown off during the impact. A companion, also riding a big bike, attempted to render aid. Mrs Sasivimon said a witness on a nearby motorcycle claimed the two foreigners had been racing along Chang Klan Road, crossing the Nawarat Bridge and heading down Charoen Muang Road at high speed. The rider reportedly lost control as he approached the San Pa Koi traffic lights, crashing into both the control cabinet and a nearby police post before his body struck the planter. She added that after the ambulance had transported the victim to hospital, she later found a necklace belonging to the injured man at the crash site and handed it over to hospital staff. Authorities continue to investigate the incident. -- 2025-04-08

The incident occurred in the village of Nong Krachap, Moo 7, Dong Phra Ram Subdistrict, Mueang Prachinburi District. Police were alerted at around 14:30 on 6 April. Pol. Lt. Rattaphon Yodkhruea, duty investigator from Mueang Prachinburi Police Station, arrived at the scene accompanied by a forensic medical team from Chao Phraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital and local rescue workers from Sawang Bamphen Thammasathan Foundation. The body of Ms. Samroeng Owatsuwan, a local resident, was discovered near the edge at the bottom of a large, disused pit, approximately 50 metres wide, 100 metres long and over 10 metres deep. She was found lying face-down on her left side, wearing a black t-shirt and floral shorts. Her right leg was visibly fractured, though no signs of foul play or other external injuries were evident. Medical personnel estimated she had been deceased for around two hours before discovery. Ms. Samroeng’s 66-year-old brother, Mr. Somsak Owatsuwan, told investigators that his sister had lived alone in a nearby house, approximately 200 metres from the pit. She had been battling both Alzheimer’s disease and a heart condition for over two years. He last saw her earlier that morning but grew concerned when she did not return home. After a search, he discovered her body at the bottom of the pit, a location she had previously visited to watch locals fishing. Ms. Samroeng’s cousin, Ms. Nopparat Songsang, who serves as a member of the local subdistrict administrative organisation (SAO), confirmed the deceased had long suffered from health issues. “She often wandered aimlessly and had difficulty sleeping. The family had taken her for medical treatment, and though she lived alone, her younger siblings regularly brought her food and checked on her,” she said. Authorities have conducted a preliminary examination at the scene and found no suspicious circumstances. Her body was transported to Chao Phraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital for a full autopsy. Relatives have not raised concerns over the cause of death and will proceed with funeral arrangements. -- 2025-04-08
