In an incident that resembled a scene from an action film, gunmen on a motorbike opened fire on a white Honda Jazz in a late-night car chase through a residential area in Ban Bueng district, Chonburi province. Authorities discovered 17 spent shell casings strewn across the road, along with a detached car bumper and a mobile phone believed to belong to one of those involved. The shooting occurred at approximately 01:30, on the morning of 21 May, in Soi Nong Samsak–Saphan Bok, Moo 2, Nong Samsak subdistrict. Local police responded quickly to reports of gunfire and a high-speed pursuit involving multiple vehicles. At the scene, officers found the white Honda Jazz’s front bumper lying in front of a television repair shop, alongside a black mobile phone. Seventeen shell casings of unknown calibre and one bullet were also recovered from the area. According to an eyewitness who owns the TV repair shop, the drama began when a black Honda City, of unknown registration, abruptly cut off the white Jazz. A motorbike, described as resembling a delivery rider then approached and its rider opened fire on the Jazz. “I first heard five gunshots, muffled, like they came through a suppressor, but I could tell they were real,” the witness said. “The white car tried to flee, but the black car blocked its path. Then there were more shots. It was terrifying.” The vehicles then sped off towards Yi Kong Si alley, with the motorbike continuing its pursuit of the white car. The witness immediately contacted police. Investigators have confirmed the recovery of physical evidence, including the bumper, phone, and multiple bullet casings. Forensic analysis is under way, and officers are working to identify the registration number of the Honda Jazz to locate the driver for questioning. Police have no clue on the motive for the attack but are treating the incident as attempted murder. They assured the public that they are pursuing leads and examining CCTV footage from the area to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-05-20.

Khon Kaen Airport: Airline Requests 30 Passengers to Give Up Seats Due to Rear Door Issue Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A domestic flight from Khon Kaen to Don Mueang was thrown into disarray on the 08:35 morning departure, when an airline unexpectedly requested 30 passengers to voluntarily forgo their seats due to an issue involving the aircraft’s rear door. The incident, which occurred at Khon Kaen International Airport, was captured on video by Ms. Wirattiya, one of the affected passengers. She and her colleagues were among dozens of travellers waiting at the departure gate when confusion erupted following a series of unexpected announcements from airline staff. Initially, passengers were informed of a minor delay without any further explanation. However, a second announcement caused alarm when it was revealed that the number of checked-in passengers exceeded the aircraft’s capacity. Finally, a third and more detailed announcement confirmed that 30 volunteers were being sought to give up their seats. In return, they were offered a full refund or rebooking on a later flight at 11.50, along with a 2,000-baht gift voucher. The airline did not initially clarify the cause of the discrepancy, sparking concern and speculation among those waiting to board. It was only after some passengers directly questioned staff that the real reason emerged: a mechanical issue with the rear exit door. The fault rendered the door unusable, meaning that in the event of an emergency, the safety of passengers could not be guaranteed. As a result, the airline decided to reduce the number of passengers on board for that flight. Speaking via video call, Ms. Wirattiya described the scene as confusing, saying, “At first, we thought the flight was overbooked. But it turned out the aircraft couldn’t safely accommodate everyone because the rear door wouldn’t open.” Despite the uncertainty, Ms. Wirattiya and her five travelling companions decided to proceed with the journey, as they had pre-arranged transportation awaiting them in Bangkok and prior commitments to keep. “We were nervous, of course, but we had no choice. We’d already hired a van to pick us up and had plans we couldn’t cancel,” she added. During the flight, which landed without incident, airline staff issued an onboard apology to passengers for the inconvenience and concern caused. Ms. Wirattiya reflected that while flight delays are not uncommon, this was the first time she had experienced a situation where passengers were asked to surrender their seats due to a safety-related equipment malfunction. The airline involved has not yet issued a formal public statement regarding the incident. However, the video shared online has since gone viral, drawing widespread attention to airline safety practices and crisis communication protocols at regional airports. Picture courtesy of TMN. Local residents were left shocked, as over 20 uniformed and plainclothes police officers descended on a bank branch located on Central Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya, Chonburi Province. The large-scale operation was led by Police Major General Teerachai Chamnarn, Commander of Region 2’s Investigation Division. Officers from the Region 2 investigation unit and Bang Lamung Police Station conducted a thorough search of the premises, questioned staff and collected evidence in connection with an ongoing investigation into a Chinese call centre scam. Officers interviewed the branch manager and two bank employees responsible for opening accounts. The three were later taken to Bang Lamung Police Station for further questioning. The police presence was part of an extended probe into a recently busted Chinese call centre gang operating in Bangkok. Subsequent investigations revealed that a group of Chinese nationals, all holding tourist visas, had opened over 100 bank accounts at a single branch in Pattaya. These accounts are now suspected to have been used for laundering funds connected to the scam. Initial statements from the bank staff indicated they were unaware that the accounts were being used for illegal activity. However, police confirmed that three arrest warrants had been issued in connection with the case, though no further details were disclosed at this stage. A police spokesperson stated that more individuals are believed to be involved and that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are currently gathering additional evidence as the case continues to unfold, and more arrests are expected. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-05-21.

Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A 59-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly bludgeoning a 52-year-old woman to death following a heated argument about the transfer of a car. The shocking incident occurred near a reservoir in Tamot District, Phatthalung Province. Emergency services were called to the Khao Hua Chang reservoir in Moo 2, Tamot sub-district, after reports of an assault. Upon arrival, rescue workers found the victim, Ms Malee, also known as “Kaya” , with severe injuries to her face and head. She was naked from the waist down. Despite being rushed first to Tamot Hospital and then to Phatthalung Hospital, she was later pronounced dead. A large, blood-stained stone believed to have been used in the attack was found at the scene. According to Ms Sutima, 42, a friend of the victim, the suspect, identified as Mr Mudtafa, or “Bangfa”, picked her and the victim up in a white Toyota Fortuner from their home in Kong Ra District. They were heading to discuss the transfer of a Toyota Yaris. Ms Sutima stated that when they reached Ban Khwannui in Tamot, she got out of the vehicle to visit a relative. Bangfa and Kaya then drove off together. Some time later, Bangfa returned alone and attempted to persuade Ms Sutima to rejoin him. She noticed blood stains on the side of the car and refused, shouting to alert locals. Bangfa quickly drove away. Alarmed, Ms Sutima, along with local residents and the village headman, went to search for Kaya. They found her seriously injured, with emergency responders, on the embankment of the reservoir. An eyewitness, Ms Janya, 43, told police she had seen a man near the reservoir appearing to dig or strike something. As she approached on her motorcycle, she noticed his face was covered in blood. Disturbed, she alerted her husband and the couple returned to the site to find the victim barely alive and severely injured. They immediately contacted emergency services. Police later arrested Bangfa as he attempted to flee to his home in Khlong Chaloem sub-district, Kong Ra District. During interrogation at Tamot Police Station, he admitted to the assault, claiming he had been in a relationship with Kaya for 20 years and that they had a child together, despite never officially marrying due to him having a legal wife. He claimed the pair had often argued, mainly due to jealousy, as Kaya had several male admirers. He said the fatal dispute occurred over an unresolved debt of 50,000 baht relating to the vehicle transfer. He alleged that Kaya bit his finger during the row and fled from the car, prompting him to follow and hit her in a fit of rage. He said he never intended to kill her and deeply regretted his actions. His wife, Mrs So, 56, who visited him at the police station, said she was shocked by the incident. She acknowledged her husband had once had an affair with Kaya and fathered a child with her, but she believed the relationship had ended nearly a decade ago. She also revealed that her husband, a lorry driver, had been suffering from mental health issues and depression over the past two months and had stopped working. Police say they are not yet convinced by Bangfa’s version of events, noting inconsistencies in his account. The victim’s partially unclothed state has raised suspicions that there may have been an attempted sexual assault prior to the murder. Investigations are ongoing. UPDATE Crime Suppression Police Raid Seven Sites in Songkhla, Arrest Two More in Police Assault Case Picture courtesy of Khaosod. The Crime Suppression Division (CSD) launched coordinated raids on seven locations in Songkhla province on 20 May, arresting two additional suspects linked to a violent mob attack on a border patrol officer earlier this month. The incident, allegedly orchestrated by local political figure Siradon Phlaiduang, known as “Sor. Golf”, continues to draw national attention. Under orders from Pol. Col. Anake Taosuphab, deputy commander of the CSD, and Pol. Col. Anusorn Thongsai, acting commander of Subdivision 6, officers searched properties across Mueang district. The operation aimed to dismantle the network of influence associated with Sor. Golf, a notorious figure accused of ordering his subordinates to assault a police officer on duty. The initial attack occurred as Pol. Sgt. Nisatit Kongthep, a border patrol officer, was providing security at a local election polling station in Phawong subdistrict. He was brutally assaulted by a group allegedly acting under Sor. Golf’s direction. The two newly arrested suspects, Mr. Faisol 27 and Mr. Ananop 37, were apprehended on court warrants issued on 19 May. Both face charges of premeditated assault on a law enforcement officer, armed resistance to authorities, and participating in a criminal gang. Officers also recovered clothing worn during the attack and mobile phones. Faisol was arrested near Phawong subdistrict, while Ananop was taken into custody outside his residence in Khao Rup Chang subdistrict, both within Mueang Songkhla. Pol. Col. Anake stated that investigations revealed the two men were present during the assault, acting as lookouts while other members of the group attacked the officer. Evidence includes witness testimonies and CCTV footage from the vicinity. Both suspects partially admitted to being present at the scene and travelling with the group but denied direct involvement in the physical attack. They have been transferred to Subdivision 6 investigators for further legal proceedings. Meanwhile, the CSD is coordinating the transfer of Sor. Golf and seven earlier-arrested associates from Songkhla Provincial Prison to the Bangkok Remand Prison. The transfer is expected to be completed within a week and is aimed at streamlining the ongoing legal process. The case continues to highlight issues of political influence and organised violence in southern Thailand, as authorities widen their investigation into the extent of Sor. Golf’s criminal operations. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Six people were injured in a road crash on the afternoon of 20 May, when a livestock transport truck suffered brake failure and cut across a main road, causing a passenger minibus to crash violently into it. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 on Rama II Road at kilometre marker 32+100, about 500 metres after the Tha Chin River bridge on the outbound side from Bangkok. The collision brought traffic to a complete standstill, blocking all lanes. Police Lieutenant Kittikul Phankongkaew, an investigator with Mueang Samut Sakhon Police Station, received the emergency report and coordinated with rescue teams from Samut Sakhon Hospital, Vibhavadi Hospital, Mahachai Hospital, and the Samut Sakhon Charity Foundation, who arrived with rescue tools to assist injured passengers trapped in the wreckage. The public minibus involved was operating on route 481–8 (Samut Songkhram–Samut Sakhon), registered under licence plate from Samut Songkhram. It had crashed into the rear of a six-wheeled livestock transport truck registered in Nakhon Sawan. Both vehicles were found blocking the entire width of the carriageway. The minibus’s front end was extensively damaged. Of the 13 passengers onboard, five were injured and sent to hospital for treatment. The driver sustained critical injuries. Other passengers, though visibly shaken and suffering minor injuries, declined hospital care. Another vehicle from the Mahachai terminal was dispatched to continue the passengers’ journey. According to 39-year-old Narong, the truck driver, he was driving inbound to Bangkok en route to pick up livestock in Chaiyaphum Province when he realised the brakes were failing. With traffic ahead heavily congested, he attempted to steer into a central opening in the median under the elevated Rama II construction site, hoping to safely stop and call for mechanical assistance. However, the truck could not be halted in time and veered into the outbound lane, directly into the path of the oncoming minibus, which crashed into it. Police have detained Mr Narong for further questioning at Mueang Samut Sakhon Police Station and will also interview the injured passengers as part of the ongoing investigation. Legal proceedings are expected to follow once all evidence has been gathered. Adapted by Asean Now from Khasod 2025-05-21.

Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Immigration Police raided a popular karaoke venue in Nonthaburi and arrested seven illegal migrant workers, while also charging the Thai owner for employing undocumented foreigners and facilitating illegal entry. The operation followed a tip-off to Immigration Bureau Commissioner Pol. Lt. Gen. Panumas Boonyalak that a karaoke bar in Bang Kraso subdistrict, Mueang District, Nonthaburi, was operating exclusively for foreign clientele and was highly active on social media platforms popular with migrant communities. A task force led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Chairit Anurit, Commander of Immigration Division 3 and senior officers from the Division’s Special Investigation Unit, conducted surveillance before deploying officers to inspect the premises. The karaoke bar, located in a secluded alley, was found to be staffed almost entirely by foreign workers, who served drinks, sang with customers, and provided entertainment. Patrons were allowed to pay via QR code, which linked to a bank account held by a Myanmar national. Undercover officers confirmed these findings before police moved in to arrest the individuals. Seven undocumented foreign nationals were arrested and charged with “working without permission or outside their legal scope of work.” Additionally, a Thai woman identified only as Ms. G, who claimed ownership of the establishment, was charged with “employing foreign nationals without permission” and “aiding and harbouring illegal immigrants.” All suspects were taken to Rattanathibet Police Station for legal proceedings. Pol. Maj. Gen. Chairit stated that while the charges typically carry fines, the arrested foreign nationals would be subject to deportation and blacklisting, making them prohibited from re-entering the Kingdom. Authorities also found evidence that foreign bank accounts were being used in the bar’s business operations, prompting a wider investigation into potential financial and immigration offences. He reaffirmed that the Immigration Bureau remains committed to cracking down on illegal activities involving both Thai nationals and foreigners. Adapted by Asean Now from Khasod 2025-05-21.

Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 24-year-old man was shot dead in a remote hut late on 19 May by his partner’s jealous ex-husband, who lay in wait before launching the fatal attack in Ron Phibun district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Police arrested the suspect on 20 May, after obtaining a court warrant. The incident occurred at around 22:30, in a hut behind a house in Ban Pa Chaeng, Moo 4, Saothong subdistrict. Pol. Lt. Sanya Klomsuk, duty investigator at Ronnaphibun Police Station, received a report of a fatal shooting and proceeded to the scene with forensic officers, rescue personnel, and a medical examiner. At the scene, police found the body of Mr Kampanat aged 24, lying in a pool of blood. He had been shot once in the chest at close range with a homemade shotgun, resulting in a cluster of nine entry wounds. Witnesses identified the gunman as Mr Sutthisak 26, the victim’s partner’s former husband. According to the victim’s partner, she and Mr Kampanat had travelled to the hut, located behind her father’s house, on a motorbike when the attack occurred. Mr Sutthisak, allegedly hiding in the shadows, seized the opportunity to ambush them, shooting Mr Kampanat before fleeing into the night. Police confirmed the motive stemmed from jealousy. Mr Sutthisak reportedly remained possessive of his former wife, who had since begun a new life with Mr Kampanat. Officers believe this led to the calculated murder. On 20 May, police gathered sufficient evidence to secure an arrest warrant from Thung Song Provincial Court. Officers later apprehended Mr Sutthisak, seizing two firearms, the shotgun used in the killing and a .38 calibre revolver. In initial questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime. He faces charges of murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and carrying a firearm in public without a permit. Mr Sutthisak is in police custody for further investigation and legal proceedings. Adapted by Asean Now from Khasod 2025-05-21.

Picture courtesy of Kaoded. The Royal Thai Navy’s Third Naval Area Command has apprehended two Indonesian fishing boats and 18 crew members for illegal fishing activities in Thai territorial waters southwest of Phuket Island. Vice Admiral Suwat Donsakul, Commander of the Third Naval Area Command and Director of the Maritime Enforcement Coordinating Centre Region 3, personally oversaw the operation, which culminated in the vessels being escorted to Tab Lamu Pier in Phang Nga’s Mueang district. The vessels were intercepted by HTMS Long Lom, a patrol ship assigned to maritime security in the Andaman Sea. The boats were detected fishing unlawfully approximately 80 nautical miles off the coast of Phuket. The operation took place in challenging weather conditions, which delayed the vessels’ arrival at the pier from an expected 03.00 to 10.00. Upon arrival, the suspects were handed over to a multidisciplinary team of officials who initiated formal investigations and legal proceedings. Authorities have confirmed that the 18 crew members, all Indonesian nationals, are now in custody and will face charges under fisheries and immigration laws. The Thai Navy reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the country’s maritime sovereignty and resources, adding that further updates on the investigation will be released in due course. Picture courtesy of Amarin. An 82-year-old man suffering from Alzheimer’s disease hanged himself after stabbing his 77-year-old wife in a shocking domestic incident in Pran Kratai District, Kamphaeng Phet Province. The incident occurred at around 10:00 on 20 May. According to local reports, the suspect, Mr Thongbai, attacked his wife, Mrs Sa-ard, with a knife, stabbing her in the left side of her torso. The wound penetrated her lung, leaving her critically injured. Emergency services were alerted and quickly transported Mrs Sa-ard to Pran Kratai Hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later transferred to Kamphaeng Phet Hospital, where her condition is now reported to be stable and out of immediate danger. Following the attack, Mr Thongbai reportedly returned to the house and took his own life by hanging himself with a traditional pha khao ma cloth from a roof beam inside the home. Family members believe the attack may have been triggered by Mr Thongbai failing to take his prescribed medication for Alzheimer’s disease. They said he sometimes exhibited signs of irritability linked to the condition, though he had never previously harmed anyone. At the time of the incident, the couple were alone at home while other family members were at work. Witnesses say Mrs Sa-ard was working inside the house when Mr Thongbai, who had been resting outside, suddenly entered the home, grabbed a knife, and stabbed her once in front of the house before she collapsed. Concerned neighbours rushed to help and alerted emergency services. While Mrs Sa-ard recovers in hospital, relatives have asked that the media refrain from attempting to contact her directly, as they have not yet informed her of her husband’s death for fear the emotional shock may worsen her condition. If you or anyone you know is in emotional distress, please contact the Samaritans of Thailand 24-hour hotline: 02 713 6791 (English), 02 713 6793 (Thai) or the Thai Mental Health Hotline at 1323 (Thai).
