  1. Just came here to say that Thai people are so underpaid. I realize that many if not most are rather unproductive that is a topic of another discussion. But the wages have been too low for too long and now with inflation life is really challenging. The Thai government allowed simple people to accrue such massive debt. When was the last time you heard anyone call this place the land of smiles?
  2. I understood perfectly well what both meant. A restaurant in a lovely Thai old home. Not a scintilla of doubt in my mind what was being discussed.
  3. I think Okinawa would be a poor choice and you'll be mistaken for military or camp follower. Could be easier for p4p but I'd rather be in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka or half dozen other cities. I really like Japan but think hooking up may have issues as well as long term visa
  4. That would be 85% of us 🙄
  5. Blast away Wife often complains she can hear my music sitting next to me on bus or plane I'm wearing earbuds 🤣 63yo...It's too loud you're too old
  6. I absolutely loathe these types of people that walk around aimlessly and purposelessly trying to stumble on to something that they can ramble on about. Not only do I think it's stupid I don't find it the least bit interesting. To add to this I've been in East Asia for 30 years will possibly could I learn from these morons especially those wandering the street at night with a camera on a stick... BORED No story to tell and you're on YouTube? Braindead
  7. I do not want to be filmed in public no matter where I am. I'm not a paid actor and the photographer or videographer does not have my consent. Nevertheless, I understand that I'm in a public domain so what I can do is cover my face and flip the camera off and hope that they will just cut or edit the shot. But they have a perfect right to be in public shooting or taking pictures
  8. So many shi++y teachers here not even trying to improve themselves. Teachers sit about doing nothing all day emboldens them with no one watching to take bigger chances. 80% of foreign teachers shouldn't even be in a classroom. Maybe 90. I've worked with four drunks, two homosexual pedo, one guy seemingly fond of touching girls, another guy that loves to insert sexual innuendo to convo with female students. Another guy I highly suspect of hating female students bc of his own genetic shortcomings, also possible closet. Totally passive aggressive. Only one of that group above has a proper license.
  9. You could find somewhere in Philippines to settle in. Atrocious food aside, it could be ok. Most if not all expats there end up with a girlfriend fairly quickly despite All the young poon in the bars (oh the headaches). It's a decidedly lower standard of living for the same amount of money as Thailand. Some things are much more expensive and other things cheaper so it about averages out. I'm inclined to say that the Philippines is actually probably 20% more expensive when it is said and done. You know better than myself whether Cambodia will work for you. It used to be about 25% more expensive than Thailand because it simply lacked the economies of scale. I really enjoy Khmer people and Cambodia would be my choice. The disappointment with Cambodia for me is the lack of beaches, the heat. Even the last time that I visited Phnom Penh in 1996 it was just starting to bust open. I've read and seen photos since and it looks like unbridled and unzoned growth run amok. One downside for Cambodia and perhaps even for the Philippines is being a single male I think you're immediately singled out for potential suspicious behavior shall I say I find the Vietnamese women, well, the Chinese Viets absolutely stunning. Food is good. But, I dislike Vietnam. The people are cold, aloof and untrustworthy. The fact that it's a communist country both add stability but at the same time you are well under eye. I had a beautiful viet gf in states who was actually older than me by a year or two. I wasn't ready to settle down at the time but she had a horrible life and was totally ride or die for me. But... very cool not the same personalities of Thai, Khmer, Pinay Lao and peepoles are lovely but the food meh and nothing to do. If you're young enough you can just bounce around between countries. Toss in Japan just because why not. How about China? You can't live there without a great deal of household but you could spend up to 6 months there on one visa.
  10. Thanks. This is knowledge. Agreed. We have decided to run one month rent out. The other we'll put a few months electric bill against. He won't lose, but he won't get any pennies from heaven either. Looking at the Bangkok Bank documented appears that some form of notice was served last May. We began renting in February and paid an entire year in advance. He must have put little or nothing towards the condo because we find these documents on the door. It's all entire so I can't inform more. My wife doesn't want to bother paging through three or four pages. The reality is obvious we need to leave as soon as possible. Thanks to those who put in something more than an opinion especially a bad one. Got the least bit concerned with the application of law. This guy is in all sorts of hot water. Mod can close
  11. Thanks. No longer need your opinion.
  12. Of course, lost them. Stolen. Oops.. Extortion lol. How do you guys dream this stuff up.
  13. You're a laff and a half. Let him go to the bother of suing for 9k. He can tell the judge also how he wasted 6k of mine in move in expenses (not moving expenses). He can then tell the judge all about two condos in bankruptcy and how he has taken my money, not a satang toward the mortgage and done whatever with it. I didn't return the keys bc we *lost* them. Oh well You don't seem to understand Thailand very well. It's such small money, such a hassle no way he'll come after one month rent which in the end will be two weeks
  14. Thank you Yeah, we only need notice. Not looking to get in the middle of anything. Plenty of condo to rent. My wife is on great terms with the building admin as well as the cleaning staff. Building admin has our backs. He's not paid condo fees in years as well.
  15. Thanks, I think so as well but was looking for someone here that might actually have a better understanding. Appreciated
  16. I've not spent serious time in Cambodia for decades but the only thing cheaper is alcohol. I'd also include rent but with caveat you might not be getting same amenities Bali - Indonesia is a big hassle to live on resident visa. Malaysia - program already had high requirements but now off the charts. There was a total exodus of expats. Your SEA choices are Cambodia, Philippines and possibly Vietnam. Taiwan is poor value but very livable. Food is sooooo boring. Philippines is dangerous in many ways.
  17. The keys are just the sweetener to get what is due. Creating inconvenience, incentive for him if he doesn't feel convenient enough to do what is right in return my deposit. Nothing more
  18. We are two people and not the least bit interested in renting an entire house. Especially as we live ground zero Bangkok If an owner goes tits up on a house or a condo it makes little difference to the renter If you somehow believe that this makes a case for ownership. I would strongly disagree. A simple inconvenience of moving and maybe losing a few thousand baht as opposed to being stuck with a condo which all of our in perpetual decay. I would agree though I think that there is a blow up coming and I see it in all of the empty condos in our building, next building over, and all of the 10 condos that I've looked at in the past few days.
  19. Agreed but we're not getting evicted. He's okay with us using one month's security for rent. He just doesn't want to lose the whole thing. My only and primary concern is if the bank shows up and locks the place changes the keys. Otherwise we just run it into the ground as he has.
  20. I didn't ask your opinion on that matter and really don't care. Why would I care if I breached a contact with a person who's taken my money, not paid the bank. Placed us in jeopardy, addl costs. the move in and out will cost 8-10k with incidentals. What's he going to do? He's breached two mortgage contracts and I'm supposed to worry about one month rent with this guy? Lol.
  21. Would really like to know her academic qualifications bc this just seems a diversity hire. I am somewhat familiar with what it takes to get a (soul crushing) job at MFA. These students are mostly top of class in secondary, MFA scholarship abroad. Among this lot few are offered even junior diplomatic posts. All young people struggle with starting their careers. No news here.
  22. Background: Returned to condo about two weeks back and found bank notice on the handle of the door. Appears landlord given notice the bank is stepping away from the loan, wants 'owner' to pay in full. My wife has told me that the date the bank actually wanted resolution was May of LAST year judging by document. Can anyone tell me what the process is here? The building admin tells us no worries and can stay easily another 90 days. My wife's friend with lawyer husband says same. Can anyone further enlighten me? We are simply looking to get our security deposit back by staying on two additional months. Owner is ok with one but wants us to pay thereafter. I'm not paying or if I must will leave electric bin + no returned keys - this guy has four condo 8n building, two are under water. He's got no money and at best robbing Peter to pay Paul. Thank you
